@kannazuki:
Well maybe its because the Noah don't have a choice in being what they are whilst the third's did, which probably made matters worse due to their akuma absorption function which destroyed the souls of akuma in droves. I guess for Allen throwing away ones humanity is too justifiable to be empathized with ( though if I were to be honest I was really feeling Tokusa's point of view, or maybe I was just glad Hoshino dealt with that perspective any at all.)

@zzz:
There are so many weird speculations about the way Allen's sword works, but honestyI just think the Tyki situation was an earlier and slightly different example of a Noah's memory retaliating against the innocence (simular to what happened to Allen in both the Phantom G and Alma Arc).

he just cares about 2 things
It's really just the priorities here that I don't get though, not the motivations for them. As you saw above, I could only chalk it up to his small-picture focus in the end. Just pointing this is an idiosyncrasy of his.
What I was thinking is that the perspective he chose surprised me. He could just as easily have seen them as victims from the beginning imo, rather than having to see them suffer first, and then have Link further humanize them later. But I guess if I think of it further, he did see some bad moments with Goushi and Tokusa first (like you mentioned) that could have given him that impression that they were more villainish at first. Too bad Link didn't say anything back then. He acted like they were all total strangers, and there was no need for that at all. (They didn't acknowledge knowing him either though, so it's not just Link's fault.) :/

Isn't this quite spoiler-ish for an anime thread?
Thank you for reminding me! It's not a site-wide requirement or anything but my personal policy for anime threads is to tag spoilers, so I went back to do that with that last post. :blush

He knew it back then though, even when he didn't care for them: They didn't understand at all what they were doing. They couldn't see trapped Akuma souls, and didn't care about them just like the rest of the Order. So I still think he could have seen them as victims. But again, when I think about it further, I realize the way the story unfolded it was as if to push him into seeing them in a negative light.

Additionally,

Additionally, Marie's conversation with Allen after the TImothy arc highlights the difference in values between Allen and everyone else. I think that it really sets up his relationship with the thirds later on. Because like you guys mentioned, Allen was a bit weird in his priorities: desparately trying to save Alma while harboring a grufdge against the thirds about pulling out all the stops in order to help win the war. Then again, he might've been more angry at Tokusa's crassness than the whole group. Despite all that, he's still going to try to save all of them. Noah, Thirds and Akuma included. Poor kid, he really only wants peace.

If anyone is interested, r/anime is having a rewatch for DGM starting today!

That's why Allen said he only nearly hate them. During his quarrel with Tokusha, he even stated that he was fine with Tokusha's thinking and asked Tokusha just not to mention it before his eye

About the priorities, because Mana's promise comes first perhaps? :XD

@fuff:It will be hard at first but I think I can get used to it. I too am not particularly fund of the guy doing Allen. Ironically, though he's a guy I find that his voice lacks the necessary range in terms of power. I think its a bit too soft and flat. He is generally known for his overall range but I find where it comes to communicating emotions like bitterness and anger, he really doesn't deliver as satisfying a performance as Koyobashi.

One of my biggest worries I have though is the soundtrack. I know the previous anime was criticized alot for the OST's but I for one loved almost everything musical about the d gray man anime, and I don't overly enjoy Japanese pop or rock. I loved all the openings and endings and even the themes during the episodes weren't bad, thoug I thought some of them could have been integrated better with greater sound quality. Though some themes really did sound simular to Inuyasha, I still liked the choise of strictly instrumental as opposed to digital sounds as it really fit the atmosphere of series in my opinion.

Just as Hoshino said, this feels like a completely new D.Gray-man anime
The previous one has things that are not good, but at the same time, there are many things that are very good

@capricorn @fuff - Kobayashi will always be the best Allen.

Kaoru Wada did the music for Inuyasha and D. Gray Man.

Really, give Ayumu a chance. He gets really good feedback when doing Allen's lines.
Also, Sanae almost broke her voice for Allen in Jump Vs Victory at some spots. I do not want to push her.

I suspect all of this is moot since the new anime isn't likely to touch on anything specific to the earlier anime.

Just generally speaking about Allen's character, it's hard to say how Allen would react if the Yeeger thing were canon...
I think the fact that Hoshino drew Yeeger herself She must have had an idea how he would be like if Allen and him ever meet ( while there are bad filler episodes there are also good ones Like the Yeeger episodes ) heck before I even read the Manga, I thought the Yeeger episodes were canon that the impression I got

Honestly I am going to miss Kobayashi a lot, but I'm also very eager to hear how the new guy does. It's going to be an adjustment but I'm very curious how it will go. (I hope Kobayashi's doing alright too.)

Interesting. I didn't know (or maybe forgot) if Hoshino drew him herself. Unfortunately without direct comment from someone involved in the project, it's hard to know what is and isn't canon, when new material is added. Normally if it contradicts the manga that would be the line, but sometimes even stuff that does can sometimes turn out to be a retcon. I think Allen is so complex he could absorb the Kevin Yeeger thing and still be who he is, but it isn't exactly necessary to his story either, so I'm honestly indifferent. :)

I secretly hope that they'll use "Fragments of Fallen Snow" in the anime :3
It would be awesome to see some more of Allen's & Mana's history together!!

Like.. You know, before the feels are going to get us...

I never found Allen complex, my reaction was similar to his upon learning of 3rd exorcist project. Still an interesting read on why people liked Tokusa or found Allen complex - different views on the same topic.

I agree with this 100 % D Grey man is one of those anime that have filler that could work but sometimes contradicts things like Daisya ( who is canon in the manga) But gets a back filler back story or Yeeger ( who is not canon ) but has stuff that can work as canon stuff at least in my eyes there are 5 generals in DGM XD

The same studio: TMS Entertainment (Conan, Lupin)
The previous anime has serious problem with directing and pacing. They did try not to use still images too much but the fights seem off

The PV proves that they probably avoid too many still images, but budget is still a thing.

^Probably because they intend the new anime to be "an entire completely fresh, new, and different/etc anime?" (quite a risk I must say) Hoshino said the staff changed completely

Not much news today

Another source said the director and producer had changed so their choice of staff changed.

Ah, I forgot to say, seemingly they won't announced new VA(s) until March 26th, along with the 2nd pv.
what news do they intend to announce actually until then, there are not that much if they exclude the VAs...
