We start this weeks chapter with Madara confirming that Naruto has saved Gai and prevented his death after opening the eighth gate. However Madara cannot work out why.
Naruto however doesn't give him much time to think and jumps forward to attack Madara. Madara recalls the Gudoudama which Naruto kicked into the Shinju last chapter and forms it into a short stick just in time to block the attack. Madara however isn't able to stop the full force and is pushed back into the tree. Madara questions if this is because he hasn't recovered but quickly realises that Naruto received a power up.
Notice that in the panel where Naruto's fist is pressing against Madara's stick (that sounds so wrong) it appears that Naruto's arm is wrapped in something. Is this some kind of Chakra coating to boost his attack or just a display of the force?
Naruto asks Son to lend some chakra and uses it to make a giant lava infused rasenshuriken. Madara jumps out of the way to avoid initially being struck as the rasengan is formed and then attempts to use Limbo to stop a follow up attack.
Notice that as Naruto is struck by the Limbo he is knocked backed slightly. The position of his legs and the outline of where is body was to the right shows this movement. However the effect is minimal and Madara is shocked it did not work and Naruto wonders is he managed to dodge it.
Naruto launches his attack at point blank range hitting Madara pushing him back across the face of the tree. After traveling a short distance Naruto shouts burst as the rasensuriken explodes and cuts through the tree, the severed ends of which are engulfed in flame.
Madara is sent flying down and away from the tree crashing into one of it's roots where he lay severely wounded. As the tree begins to fall towards him he seems to have already accepted his defeat.
As the tree falls Madara hears a mysterious voice telling him to absorb the tree itself. Naruto grabs Gai and escapes to prevent him from being crushed by the falling tree. Meanwhile Madara jumps into the air, catches the tree and beings to absorb it.
After Naruto rejoins the other we jump to Sasuke and co. as Sasuke is removing the black rods from the Second. The Second cannot understand how Sasuke can touch them until he stands up and sees Sasuke's face. The Second reveals that he is still linked to the Fourth's markings but with his current power can only take one person. Sasuke boasts that he will be enough.
After seeing Madara fully regenerated and some obligatory praising of Naruto we join Obito and Sakura in the Kamui dimension. Just as Sakura claims that she can now accept Obito as an ally he asks for one last favour but to do it she must think of him as an enemy.
Naruto picks up the fourth's kunai from the ground and places it in his teeth as his tightens his headband. He thinks about the power given to him and comments that he can clearly sense the other half within Sasuke.
As Naruto activates his new sage mode Sasuke teleports next to him thanks to the Second.
Naruto now boasts a new look and has the Gudoudama at his back along with two black rods; one in each hand. Sasuke however now has the Sharingan infused Rinnegan which the Juubi and Kaguya had.
Madara comments that each of them has half of the Sage's power but he possesses both and asks the question who is stronger.
Thoughts
I enjoyed this chapter and really like the recent direction that the manga is heading in. The war arc has seemed completely bland but Kishi is really starting to redeem himself.
What action this chapter contained however seemed pointless as any damage done to Madara was quickly negated by absorbing the tree. It was nice however to see a display of power from Naruto and the upgrades both he and Sasuke received.
A few panels where difficult to see exactly what had happened at first but I think things can be confused by the location which Kishi has them fighting in.
The main aim of this chapter however was to set the scene ready for the final battle.
Overall I give this chapter a 4 out of 5
Predictions
With Madara being closer to Kaguya's power than ever I think we are going to learn more about him soon. There was one panel in this weeks chapter which displayed her eyes.
I am still of the opinion that the Juubi was formed when Kaguya decided to absorb the tree after eating the fruit in her hunger for more power.
My other prediction is that Obito is either going to ask Sakura to kill him or at least destroy his eyes. After Obito is out of the picture Madara will try to gain the Sharingan from Kakashi (remember that Madara said he was nurturing a new eye.)
