I wish I could draw/colour etc like you can DD. I remember seeing your Deviantart pages AGES ago & thinking bloody hell, this is good!

experiment huh.....this color range looks familiar....i'd say you made a deal to use amaretti's color palette for all i know....
the trademark earth tones, all unmistakable amaretti influence....the lighting is a refreshing new touch though...

seems that experimenting new styles is the newest trend nowadays...which is good for all

when "gods" do experiments, to mortals like us, its magic!

edit: but amaretti said HE was inspired by some of your colorings too.... *checks again...* yeah, you've used this kind of color range before, here....









i think this is what inspired amaretti (not sure but sure as hell is similar) and i also think you "subconciously" returned to this "early" experiment and took it to another level! (with that amazing lighting!)

you really are something to be so good at many styles...

@ techno: lol na it wasnt that, if it were the earthy tones, i wouldve been saying, tonal experimentation XD but i said color range because i meant the use of greys in shading, like HTK does XD

now I'm jealous lol ughh I'll never be able to make good works! I'm getting depressed ....DD how would you make sunlight if there wasn't the wall in the back ? I really need a tip on that if you have time to answer cuz if the wall wasn't there the highlights would have only appeared on juugo and I'm curious of how you'd make them appear in air (I hope I said it right XD)

Don't get depressed! Just keep persevering and working hard! Ha! Now I sound like Naruto! But it's true; don't let things get you down. Just keep at it. I'm sure DD has had times when he has felt bad about his works too, and even Amaretti said that he stopped working on some colourings of Sakura because he'd stopped liking them (but brave Amaretti finished and posted them anyway!). Getting frustrated happens to even the best.

One day you will look back on your own early works and smile because you'll be pleased at how far you've come.

oh hi SA, i just got on haha

erm well... if ur stuck with composition, its always handy to imagine one XD

with the juugo cover, i did notice that it was a wall behind him, bu i dunno which part it is, either it being the side of the door, front or right side,.... so i just imagined that the open door is on the left, hence the lighting, and the light from the light bulbs outside gives it that bright effect since the cell is dark compared to the hallway 8)

as if i haven't glorified you enough....that additional layer of shading/lighting/greys took this cover on a whole new divine level!

btw, can u post a version without that extra layer? just for comparison...

oh so those are his works...
i can see the similarities upon closer inspection...both of your earth tones are subtler than amaretti's and your earlier earth tone colors a bit more easy on the eyes...imho...

Hehe correct me if Im wrong but I think DD does all the specific colouring (ie. skin, hair) all in one layer via the lock thingy. If he does that, he wouldnt be able to take the greys off the skin without having to colour over it.

At least thats what I think DD does XP Not sure whether he uses a couple of layers just for the skin or just one layer via the lock function.

Unless your talking bout the lighting from left, then thats a whole different story XD That would prolly be a seperate layer.

(sorry for the jargon XP hope it makes some sense)

yup, i only use one layer for each part X_D... no point in making new ones, i try not to go back and forth wen i color, just like how i would paint/color in real life, u wont have the 'ctrl+Z' function haha....

@KS: me? into HTK? but this is the first time ive used it oO.....
