Hm, a good start. Nothing out of the ordinary or groundbreaking of course, but everything was executed solidly. And that sad moment at the end was appropriately emotional. Premise seems good, but the problem with Mashima's stuff is never the beginning anyway. Let's see where he takes this.

This is not FT, Shiki was simply in denial about the machines he lived with not being his friends, he simply no longer thought they were his friends, he just simply became motivated to fight when someone cares for him, his strength comes from his internal strength being converted into power

My god, the dialogue in the first pages is horrible, even for a light hearted story like this, we get it Mashima, friendship is awesome, so please, stop repeating that!

"Oh friendship is magical and everybody can be friends and everybody has a heart because be are friends that love each others"

Other than that the first chapter is not really that special, the setting is kind of interesting and the main characters has a power that is not simply "thorwing fire!", but the girl is boring and is just used for fanservice and to cry like Lucy, the drama with the robots is not very well done because we barely know them and the fight wasn´t that good, so it was a lame first chapter.

I like the sort of role reversal between Shiki and Rebecca. In Rave and FT, it was the guy going on an adventure who gets the girl in on it along the way. And it already subverted my expectations of the other characters who appeared in the key image. It felt good to know the big, scary skull-faced guy was actually a good guy, and kind of sad that the wizard robot guy didn't live past the first chapter (but you know Hiro...)

I'm still kind of hoping the Erza lookalike will be a villain, like Nightwalker, just because I'd be interested to see it. And I'm guessing from the King that the white-bodied guys in the background are robots themselves.

All in all, I'm mainly upset that the next chapter won't be as long, because this has me hooked.

Sure one may not consider it a high level of writing, but still, more than one can say about some authors.

For a example of what I mean, read the first chapter of Magi: The Labyrith of Magic, by Shinobu Othaka, and then Orient, her next manga. You can see a drop in the quality of writing and world building.

I also have to say that when I saw the Grandpa Robot say "Dragons", I was like: Seriously? But then it was nicely subverted when we saw then.

So happy is the new plue, eh?

Whilist I only have the anime memories of Rave Master (the manga is still on my bucket list), I enjoyed fairy tail for what it was:

A manga with awesome-drawn battles, and good at hitting you in the feels, even if it was very cheesy sometimes.

I bet anyone here can safely say they felt something when Natsu beat both Stinger and Rouge in the Magic Tournament, specially with the anime OST.

Yeah. Its not that Orient is "bad", per se, is just that it is vastly inferior to Magi, at least for the moment.

EZ is on par with FT in its premise and delivery.

While one could expect more evolution from a author, I believe Hiro Mashima is undeserving of such hope. And yet, what he does at his level, he does it in a very good manner. At least for me

Reading Rave Master and all the world building it had helped give me a bit more insight on Mashima's thought processes, which helped fill in some of the blanks I felt Fairy Tail had.

For one, I found it weird how FT didn't go into the drawbacks of Zeref's plan to rewrite history to stop Acnologia, making the heroes come across as no less selfish than Zeref. But reading how Rave elaborated on the butterfly effect and how altering one person's fate could possibly lead to their descendants never existing, it struck me that Zeref was willing to potentially undo the lives of who knows how many people to prevent a future threat, when the present already had the possibilities to stop it. In fact, I think Natsu figured that even if he would never have known and met his friends in this timeline, but with Acnologia gone, Anna or one of her descendants wouldn't feel compelled to continue their family, thus possibly erasing Lucy from existence. And then I thought...yeah, it makes perfect sense for Natsu to stop Zeref's plan!

People say Fairy Tail is a huge disappointment compared to Rave, but for me, Rave helped me see Fairy Tail in a better light.

Personally I liked the chapter very much, we can see that Rebecca will be the one to take on the role of showing us the universe, in Rave it was initially Elie and then Music with Plue and now Rebecca with Happy.

Rebecca reminds me a lot of Juvia, but her way of being reminds me of Mira with Lucy, while I get used to it hahaha

Shiki reminds me a lot of Gajeel and not only for his first appearance xD

Happy looks smart, and I managed to differentiate it from the Happy joker, well there mashima.


The personality of the girl I like, is she gluttonous, with her fanaticism to haircuts? very trusting, typical of the protos of Hiro and his goal is to achieve a million followers in Aoneko and also its origin is Blue Garden, I do not know why I think Happy or is someone important, or there are many Happys and each one is assigned to each person?.


Now I did not expect that the one who looks like Keyes is the "Father" of the prota and Michael was a character in a chapter, interesting because he will be known by Granbell.


I liked it, I like it a lot as Hiro begins to show his world.

I may have a different opinion with everyone here, i think the first chapter is so so... The story is pretty common thing but the art is awesome. Or maybe because i still get the feels of Rebecca as Lucy and Shiki as Natsu, the way they talk and act is kinda similar...

What can you deduce from EZ?

* naive protagonist will grow as person while journeying through the universe witht he guidence of his first friend/Future lover.
* He's important. His bloodline is probably a big deal.
* Rebecca likely has a past too. (I wonder if she's a non-human? She never said yes to being human and how she reacted to hearing machines thinking human see robots as just tools sounds like forshadowing.)
* How there's structure to Shiki's power.

Well from my point of view I love Eden's Zero already! Hiro's writing for EZ is differently familiar but it's not Rave or Fairy Tail it's looks great. The story about exploring the cosmos in space through the universe. It's a noir infinite number of possibilities & new worlds to find. Kinda feels like Star Wars or Star Trek but with the myth of journey of steampunk characters you can relate to but who looking to find answers to who they are & why there here along the way to find companions to go adventure with into epic space saga plot. It's somewhat different but new while being familiar. I love Shiki & his relationships with his friends that machines with the Demon King he looks up to like a grandfather. He's a boy who looks to the stars & wonder in awe, while staying on a home planet with robotic stagnant family being obligated to fix them then comes along this beautiful girl Rebecca with her blue cat ironically named Happy.lol They are traveler's looking for the next best thing to get more views on their media space channel for their fans subscribing & from their home planet Blue Garden. I love the reversed roles of the main Male & Female Character's point of view of each other. Shiki hasn't seen any other human in long time let alone a pretty girl which makes him interested her even more (being a pervert xD lol) & that she sees he's strange boy but with a good heart who believes in his friendship with the machines who raised him. Especially when she gave him a hair cut which shows she likes him. but more importantly his machine family played the role of them hating humans & making Rebecca cry seeing Shiki being kind & compassionate while being hurt set forth the forshadwing of what Demon King said "If you find true friends who cry for you, never let them go & stay with them" gave him the edge to protect her using his power of the dark ages "Ether Gear" & protecting her "Tears" made her see he's someone truly special which they counted on to get out there to find companions to go adventure to see the stars & Dragons. It was sad to see them shut down all for his sake so he can live his life. Demon King said "He's going to give hope to the Universe"; which means the plot will indeed have a new story we've never seen before & I love the fact girl this time brought the boy with him befriending him to go out into the vast world of space which in RM & FT the boy always takes the girl on the adventure. So with that & how this new chapter opened up with a great opening of his new manga looks to be amazing & I can't wait to see what else he has in store for us to see. I still love the power of friendship just as long as it's used correctly in this new story unlike in FT.

Also I wanted to put this on here because when I saw the first part of the chapter in color pages where young Shiki looked up at the stars this quote popped into my head from Interstellar;
