Ft was published in those day when digital reading wasn't popular so obviously FT will be higher.
--- Double Post Merged, , Original Post Date: ---

I will post by the month end, let's see if it crosses vol 3 or falls below.
Yes but suddenly for EZ must be counted as volume sales but not in digital format.

Like that we compare little with FT and see if the figures are similar.

And after added digital sales for the total.

No you perhaps didn't understand my point, nowadays digital reading is increasing (WSJ probably even created one site for it) so people don't buy physical volumes like previously.

FT started when digital reading was not popular so physical volume sales will be higher than EZ.

Yes but it changes nothing to compare with the comparable.

I buy my tome, I buy nothing in digital so I'm not counted in this survey.

The figure you give, if it's digital sales, it's not complete in the truly total sales of EZ.

So, for now, let's start by looking for FT and EZ in physical volume to see if sales are so bad.

And after added for EZ digital sales to have the total sales figure.

To take only digital sales is useless to say if EZ sells well or badly.

Well, that's how I understand it.

I don't read digital but I think it is sites like CR,it is not like you actually buy a volume, something like you pay a monthly subscription and you can read a particular manga as many times as you like.

So as such there is no stats on digital sales.

Because apart from EZ you can read any other manga, pinpointing a particular manga is difficult.

If fireforce didn't get canceled despite of its low sales why would ez lol when it's shaping out to be the next big hit for Kodansha and when it comes to ez you should also consider international sales I think it's more popular in France or Germany
I still think volume 5 would do a lot better than all other volumes

what it would take is compared with FT volume 1-2-3-4 in the same periods see if, it was less, more or as much as EZ.
Uff, it's hard, the Oricon manga records are from 2008 onwards, the first volume that (at least I have) found is from the 12th and by then FT was already selling only in the top 30 250k.

Although, since we are talking about a series that the magazine wants to return pillar, we could compare it with NnT, that the records do exist. :mono:cookiestare

Hmm. doesn't sound like Edens Zero is doing great in the paper volume sales market but I definitely lack the knowledge to understand the nuances.

Like even if the volume sales are top of the heap that doesn't necessarily mean much of anything does it? The numbers that probably matter most are what people are reading in Weekly Shounen Magazine. Which I'm sure they know via the digital side though I doubt they'd ever make that info public.

I'm sure higher volume sales would be nice but there are a lot of series out there that are doing just fine that are nowhere on the volumes sales list.

So I guess I'm not too worried. I figure eventually Edens Zero will get an anime and the volume sales will skyrocket. Until then what matters is what Mashima does with the story are characters. Because that's where all manga lives and dies.

Jam volume sales are the most important, whether a manga will stay or go in a magazine depends upon its physical volumes sales for now,Attack on Titan and Gotoubun no Hayanome are the most popular now because of it's physical volume sales.

------

I personally think the next volume of EZ will be bang and have great sales.

They both have anime though. Of course their sales are high. Anime is like an advertisement for the manga.

I'd be careful in reading too much into physical volume sales. Those are important no doubt about it but they are only a part of a very complex situation. Is a publisher interesting in selling volumes? Absolutely. But as a publisher I'm sure they are also looking past that into the brand viability. Just that it's a Mashima series practically makes it a lock to get and anime eventually and when that happens the sales will fly up. They usually do.

On top of that they are also interested in selling their weekly magazine and in order to do that they need to ensure they have a little something for everybody. A niche currently being filled by Edens Zero, Orient, and Nanatsu no Taizai right? I'm sure they don't want to cut away too much of their classical shounen no matter what. And it seems like Orient might get the axe. If that happens Edens Zero becomes valuable just for being what it is. If NnT has to go on hiatus or something that could potentially cost them a lot of money in magazine sales. They don't have Fairy Tail to fall back on anymore. That's the kind of thing publishers worry about.

So yeah, I'm not saying the paper volume sales aren't interesting but publishing can be a very complicated thing and those numbers can be a lot less simple than they seem. My point is that it's not necessarily a parallel with series health.

No no it's actually important,if you see all the cancelled series they got cancelled only because the volume sales dropped.

They don't calculate on the basis of magazine sales.

Now you may say why?

The magazine has a lot of manga,a NNT reader may buy the magazine to read NNT but not read EZ,same way an EZ reader may buy the magazine to read EZ not NNT.

So it's difficult to judge a series's popularity based on the magazine sales hence they focus on volume sales.

NNT is probably ending next chapter and Orient might get axed so EZ is in a good position to exploit it.So I agree with you.

That used to be the way it was. But with digital analytics they know all that now. If your reading manga on an app they keep that information. They know exactly what your reading and how long it took you to read it.

Now I'm sure series got cancelled as their volume sales were dropping. But it's not just paper sales. They have all the sales data. Along with the rest of the data. What that data says I can't even begin to guess. And where that sits relative to their projected goals.

Is it doing as well as Fairy Tail pre-anime? I'm sure it's not but I'm also sure that wasn't the expectation.

I'd honestly bet right now they have an anime deal already set up and are just waiting for their to be enough content to allow them to do 2 cours. If after that they don't see a spike in volume sales. Then they'll hit the panic button. Until then it could sell half the volumes it's selling now and probably still be fine.

King moe i think what Arjuna is getting at is not the fear of Edens zero getting canceled but the fear that the sales are declining from each volumes and if it continues to do so it will not reach the popularity to get a good studio to adapt the anime and therefore being a fail like rave master anime although i kinda liked it but it didn't live up to the expectations like the other series at its time.

I am not thinking about its anime,Fire Force with low sales got an anime so EZ should also get it.But the problem is if it doesn't have good sales it will remain "just a series" never reaching good popularity.

This is my fear, I see great potential in this series, Hiro builds his series in a very good way (Of the 3 I stay with FT) and we already have a clear goal, it is necessary to see beyond the difficulties they have for get to Mother, as are the other Cosmos besides Sakura.

And falling into account, speaking of rivalries, the new Masashi Kishimoto series is an SCI-FI, that is to be the direct competition with EZ and more being from the Jump and a recognized manga.

Again if Fire Force didn't have anything happened to it despite it sales and getting anime with top-notch animation, Eden's Zero and Orient will be just fine especially company can't afford to lose these series with their big hits ending soon and need a new generation to lead on, so I see Eden's Zero, Fire Force, and Orient as 'Big 3' for WSM and Kodanasha for sure.

Funny both have same idea on making Sci-Fi series, but I am hearing Kishimoto's have 'issues' on it 'copying' from an series already named Samurai 7 and have sci-fi elements as well. What is up with that?

The problem with the sales is that not many know of Edens zero the same can be said about orient. The real rise in sales starts from the anime and there's very few mangas that get a real good start point in sales that could mainly be because they offer something new to the table that we haven't seen in a story (twists?)

Secondly there's not many si-fi competitors for edens zero like natsu said ^

This coming chapter will be huge for edens zero because of the collab with jump magazine and I can see that the magazine is trying to give Edens zero a big boost because you can literally see shiki in the middle with deku.

So don't always think negative and Arjuna for me if I like the story then its GOAT for me i don't care what others think about the series

At least not before Kishimoto's new manga drops next week.

I can see it now...the headaches we will endure as people look at the manga Mashima drew first by 11 months and say he ripped off Kishimoto...

I don't think so as many on Youtube, Reddit, and other platforms are aware of EZ existence whether by love or 'hate' as they won't see it as a rip-off of Kishimoto's work (Especially EZ been pretty good lately and keep building up on getting more fans to join as time goes on) which actually been called more o ripoff due to it's name and premise being VERY similar to a series called Samurai 7 with it's sci-fi elements especially dealing with samurais and technology. I kid you not XD.

But I did not talk about risk of cancellation, but of low popularity, I did not want to set an example, but I do not want Edens Zero to pass what to Toriko at the time, with all the promotion they did to him and it was a "failure".

Both Orient and EZ, its authors know very well that it is to have a very successful manga for their magazines, what I do not want is for them to go unnoticed, although it is too early to talk about this, but it does not seem normal for me to have suddenly declined. EZ sales, without neglecting to sell more than 60k being a new series is very good.

It's just my little concern, we are talking here just about Japan, this series has something that very few series have and is an international market since its first volume and this is the big bet that the publisher has with EZ (for me)
