I've just read back the vampire of Edinburgh and I gotta say, I'm kinda sad Nabaka didn't stay with Escanor's form at the end of the 2nd chapter/beginning of the 3rd one. You know, the one just before his transformation into buffscanor, between his weak form and buff form.
I find the buff form not very beautiful, whereas in the intermediate form, he's just so handsome and looks like captain american :D

I like that intermediate form a lot, too but I think the buff form suits him best with his current mustache. It has something Herculean to it. The intermediate form looks best without mustache.

No love for the night form? During the Edinburgh chapter I really liked his form during the night, when he's talking with Mel.

He looks so much like a teenager who just fell in love for the first time. So pure and innocent. :blush

And he cracked me up too.
Now for some reason his night form looks a bit shorter. :hmm

I like his night form because he is a cute dork but the mustache makes him look awkward and he is even more unsexy than my underwear

He reminds me of Luigi in night time. :XD

Buffscanor is the best Escanor. :nod He can be too buff at times, but I think it's because of Suzuki's style of drawing.

Suzuki has always had trouble with drawing legs and feet proportionally. He is great with torsos, arms and hands and everything else but his legs sometimes look too thin, especially on the buffer characters. The only time he got Escanor in his buff form looking really proportionate and aesthetic was during the Edinburgh chapters.

Yes I think so too. The buff form during the vampire action is nicer than the one against the TC

Only at the beginning, the one that overall seems proportionate is when he just transformed, and he says "Apologize to me for being born into my world".

But as the action progresses his form when he's reciting the poem for example is not proportionate at all. His head looks way too small for the rest of his body.

His body seems a lot more buff than in the beginning of the chapter, his neck is more thick too and you can even see a vein popping.

The one he had against Galan seems to be better drawn, more proportionate overall. Maybe it has something to do with his power and he gets even more bulky around noon, that would explain why during the Edinburgh chapter he was more lean at the beginning of the chapter, but then he ended up looking like the Mountain from GoT by the time he killed Izraf. He even got as tall as him when he only reached Izraf's lower half in before.

Or maybe Suzuki is just inconsistent with the way he draws his character, which isn't too weird but there is also the possibility that Escanor becomes even more buff around noon.

I don't think Suzuki is really good at drawing buff characters, and his characters in general have the lower parts of their bodies drawn too lean. I don't like chicken legs :/

I disagree. He may look disproportionate in that his head appears small but otherwise his body has good symetry. He has the look of a professional bodybuilder (only that he far exceeds 2 meters in height which is in itself a rarety with that bulk and lean muscle mass but it's fictional so I won't even go there in terms of realism).

His quads and calves have the right and proportionate thickness compared to his upper and lower arms and a good back-to-waist ratio, as well. Against Galan, he seems way more top heavy, his legs look much slimmer and his calves look way too small in comparison to his upper and lower arms. His back width seems to have decreased, yes, but overall his torso still appears longer and larger compared to his leg size and length.

For example, let's compare torso length:

Compare the pic of buff Edinburgh Escanor to this one and you will see that his upper leg portion (the quadriceps) is way way shorter on the cover page.

Again, here:

Compare the Edinburgh pic to this one and focus on his calves and you see how supple they are in the first and how small they are in this one, especially in comparison to the whole arm.

I find that Nakaba draws him pretty disproportionate lately, I hope he fixes that in the future. Escanor needs a new outfit anyway, he is always breaking his current ones and I don't like him in the bar master outfit anyway.

One escanor gets back into the fighting game and as a member of the sins he will likely wear more practical clothes. In the vampires arc he had an outfit which basically adjusted to his own size, he is likely to go back to that soon.

As for escanor's power, I doubt his power is related to the power which was in the land of britania. Escanor is a living embodiment of the sun, the power in the ground sounds like it would be much less than that of the sun. I had a theory that escanor would be used by the commandments to recover their own powers and wage war against the sins properly. That specific thing did not happen but it wouldn't be strange that merascylla comes up with a plan to do such a thing. Through escanor they potentially have access to a much greater power than whatever could plausibly dwell on earth. They just need to capture escanor in his night form after all. Considering escanor has the power of the sun it is even likely that he can't even use his full power himself. Even what we are seeing is likely merely what a feeble human body, however perfect, can handle.

Nah I don't think they can eat his soul period, it is imbued with Sunshine since Escanor was "soulless" when that happened, so he couldn't have activated it. So I think it is naturally coated with it, and it might be that his soul is where Sunshine resides, if that makes sense to you.

I am not suggesting they straight up eat his souls. but rather figure out a way to draw out magic from him continually. Escanor's power is the sun, it might as well be infinite. So the commandments capture him and somehow draw magic from him in order to keep themselves strong. Or otherwise use him for whatever they originally intended to do with the power in britania.

I don't think they need that, looks like they already got their magic back and there's no reason for it to get depleted again. I just don't see the point, and I don't see how you came to the conclusion that his power is infinite. It's not, his power is closely related to the course of the sun, so after it reaches its peak it slowly declines till he becomes literally the weakest knight. It can only be useful to them during the day.
If the TCs were to do something they'll try to kill him, because he's a threat to them. Mera, Dolor and Gloxinia are likely to remember what he did to them.

Are we even sure that was his soul?

She ate it, and then it almost burned her to death.

There was never a scene of it leaving her in some capacity, and returning to him indicating that he was rendered a soulless, mindless husk like ban was.

Seems more like she just ate his magic power rather than his soul. He told her as much when she got engulfed.

That chapter would indicate that his power is a part of his soul, but later on during the fight festival it was said that his genetic make up allows him to power up with the sun, indicating that he's at least got to be a mix of a human and something else even if it's only 1% or something, for the sun to have that kind of effect on him.

....yeah pretty sure it was, it looked like every other soul in the manga, except bigger. She couldn't hold it for long before it started burning her.

I would argue there is plenty of reason for it to get depleted. What about a hard enough fight? Assuming a fight to the very end the commandments risk extremely long recovery times after any fight they have. And they might actually have run out of humans already. Escanor being useful in this regard only during the day is hardly an issue. The worst case scenario for them is waiting about 12 hours contrary to waiting for their normal recovery time. And even then, it is plausible they wanted the power in britania for something specific to begin with so even after recovering they could be in need of massive amounts of magic.

I say infinite because as far as I can tell escanor is using the actual power of the sun. Of course, we have seen his PL but it is plausible that is merely the amount of power he can handle rather than the full power of the sun (of course, the actual full power of the sun would incinerate the earth).

I think the armor is clearly meant to look like galan on his overdrove form rather than escanor's armor.

I thought it, too, because he wasn't immediately melting the ground when he appeared. So I thought it supresses his Sunshine. But he turned it on this chapter so I think it's just ordinary armor and he can fully control his magic.
