Eustass Kid was one of the first Supernovas to get hyped in Sabaody, and it was foreshadowed that he will be one of the strongest. But the last time we saw kid he looked like this:
So far he's been shown to be reckless, overconfident, and destructive - he picks a fight with almost everyone, but more than anything he hates the world nobles:
"World Nobles... Slaves... Human shops... Against the "purity" of these "upper classes", the villains of the world look positively humane in comparison. It's because the world's in the hands of scum like them that it's all screwed to hell... I mean, we're not the nicest of guys, but at least we're honest about it." - form Wiki page
Anyone familiar with the manga/anime Akira may see the similarities to Tetsuo:
IMO Kid is due for a big powerup but we might not see it until much later. His power seems to be electromagnetism (ability to control iron and certain metal) and you know what else has iron in it? Blood:
If you've seen Akira you know Tetsuo is one of the strongest/most destructive characters to ever appear in manga..just wait for his final transformation..
A lot of people are theorizing Blackbeard will be the final boss (for obvious reasons) and the straw hats will destroy Marejois/the Red Line (but this feels un-luffy like to me), however, Oda puts a lot of emphasis on inherited will and the next generation moving things forward - I think Kid may be one of the last if not final enemies, or at least Luffy's rival supernova/worst generation member. I also feel like if anyone's going to destroy the Marejois it would be Kid. He's kind of an antithesis to Luffy - short tempered, bold, and hates authority, but cruel.
Plus he already said he doesn't like Luffy (also from wiki):

“ He gets on my nerves! ”
— Kid after reading the article concerning Luffy's second visit to Marineford
Edit:
Just Thought of a few more points why Kid might be the Strawhat's final rival
1) Killer is a good match for Zoro and the only other Supernova to not use a DF or be a captain
2) If Kid succeeds in going after Shanks it gives Luffy as much reason to fight him as Blackbeard (maybe more?)
3) More parallels between Luffy and Kid:
-Kid seems to be respected by his crew and respects them as well
-Kid is quick to anger but just as quick to forgive and forget (alliance with Apoo after at least 2 fights and after having his hideout wrecked/fights alongside Law even after he was disrespected minutes earlier)
-He's quick to act but listens to the advice of others (e.g. Hawkins)
4) If Law has the ultimate Devil Fruit and Luffy is going to be pirate king, then why was kid introduced at the same time as Law? Luffy:Roger::Kid:Whitebeard... might lead the fight in next marine war
5) Imagine how much damage an awakened Kid could cause? (his abilities seem underdeveloped so far - like Luffy's)
6) Neither Devil Fruit (gomu gomu or Kid's) is an obvious counter to the other so it would be a true match of strength
