So now I think Kirin is the perfect opponent for Laxus to go DF, if he really has a chance.

Surely Kirin is not vastly stronger than Laxus, but like Wahl, he has this certain hax that counters Laxus' lightning. So it would be nigh impossible for Laxus to win without a massive power-up. If he still doesn't go DF in this fight, he probably never will.

So Laxus said that Kirin's MP level is higher than Gildarts. But comparable.

Edit: Laxus actually said "ギルダーツのおっさんみたいな魔力だ", which means that Kirin's MP level is similar to that of Gildarts, not higher...

That's a... real understatement for someone who's supposed to be stronger than the human form of a DG

I'm sorry but... if Kirin is only a tad higher than Gildarts level, it means that Suzaku is at most Gildarts level, which means that human form Selene ≤ Gildarts.

And we all know that August and Irene were tiers above Gildarts

If Laxus' statesments are true, how tf are the DGs really comparable to Acno anyway

Well Gildarts did say that GS at his Prime would have been a great Wizard that got his attention.

The fact that she is called the greatest would imply that she's above the other 4 of the 5 strongest mages in the guild which includes Orga (Minerva, Orga, Rufus, Sting & Rogue are the 5 strongest according to the manga).

Also the only time Orga was called the strongest was when she left the guild, funny enough. Furthermore, fan translations of the same chapter has Rufus call her 'strongest' which further supports that it can be translated and interpreted as strongest/most powerful/most formidable/greatest in this sense.

IIRC 'Dai' (大) in Japanese means 'great' while 'saikyo' ('Sai' + 'kyo') (最強) means 'strongest', however in speaking 'dai' can refer to strength given the context of the situation and since Rufus went on to boast that she's stronger than the twin dragons and was speaking about Erza/Kaguya's strength, it would actually support that he was talking about her strength even if he did say 'greatest' instead of 'strongest'.

I don't know Japanese so I can't clarify if this is a situation like that, though I do have the raws. If someone can clarify what's the word and/or if it does refer to power if it is the word greatest, that would be great!

Again idk Japanese but it seems to me that 最強 (Saikyo) is used in the raw which means 'strongest' as opposed to 大 (Dai) which means 'great'. So it seems that Rufus is literally saying that she's the strongest mage in Sabertooth, hence the use of 最強 (Saikyo) instead of 大 (Dai).

With that being said, it's a kid series, for the most part, so it's not likely that Mashima is nitpicking and differentiating between Minerva being the greatest and Orga being the strongest. And this is me ignoring him getting low diffed by Jura while Minerva had a better showing against Erza/Kagura, even though they are weaker than Jura/Laxus.

1) Thanks for the breakdown, I don’t speak Japanese and always find those differences interesting.

2) The translators are interesting on these. Like having August say country instead of continent, when all the other people make that statement in the same arc their talking about the continent. An the anime translating it differently. That said. I am putting weight on the greatest statement. I acknowledge the interpretations of the word though, and am perfectly capable of conceding that point of my argument.

3) I still find Orga stronger. Facing off against Laxus is more impressive than facing off with Erza at any point previous to their battle in 100YQ for me. An he was holding his own. An Jura is a far more impressive loss, than a tired and injured Erza. Laxus got put down on his first attack, and a later one, because Jura’s a genuine monster . Dragon Slayers are just bigger tanks. Especially when she conceded to a healthy Erza, tried to weaken her, and still lost.

Sting's actually the strongest during the GMG. Jiemma was the strongest before that, and Sting blew a hole in him.

Rufus doesn't account for Sting's, and eventually Rogue's, POF awakening. The statement about her being stronger than the Twin Dragons is no longer true by Tartaros. Twin Dragons took down demonized Jiemma, who is strictly above any of the demon gates. This includes Kyouka, who Minerva got bullied by.

Orga's guild-card was released mid-Tartaros arc as a chapter cover. Either the guild card doesn't apply to Tartaros arc, or Orga unlocked his own POF and surpassed Sting.

An injured Star Dress Mix Lucy destroyed a Wood Golem and put it down.

Injured Base Gajeel and Gray were unable to even do something to Wood Golems. They are comparable to Base Natsu.

Honestly, I don't know. Makarov was OP during BoS but now, he is crippled in a wheelchair. It seems he's still very strong though since Wraith was able to take over his body but... I dunno.

It seems to me that he has always been more or less on GMG Jura level from beginning to end.

There’s a reason they compared Makarov’s magic power to Spriggans, he’s been sitting right at that cusp. He’s been a power house the entire time, but one on the decline. He is clearly growing weaker throughout the series instead of getting stronger.

No I think we Stagnant from BoS till tenrou island. From Tenrou island arc that’s when we started to see the decline his health was a major concern from there he started to take the backseat

Ofc, these are some of the strongest antagonist we have gotten so far not named Dragon Gods and Acno.

If Gray does jack or Gajeel then they'll officially be weaker then Wendy.....let that sink in for a second. Ofc the chances of this changing is highly likley due to Gray's and Gajeel's "portrayal" next to Natsu

Wendy wasn't alone. In fact that was a combine win with Wendy's Magic + Eileen's knowledge.
Wendy, who wasn't aware of the extend of her own abilities, was guide by her current mentor for the win.
Without Eileen, Wendy was doom in this fight. For sure.

And this is why she is now a High Enchanter : understandood the extend of her own Magic when Eileen said she did all of that with Wendy's Magic self.

She grew to a next level of Enchant's knowledge.

We also have to point that Enchant is the most useful Magic against Hax. But still, Wendy lacks in raw powers.
She is the best vs Hax and as Support (enhancement, heal....). Not against destructive one or tanks like Natsu, Erza, Laxus.....

PS : Usopp was the best vs Perona and won. He is still far weaker than Luffy, Zoro and Sanji who were powerless vs same Perona.
