We always knew that logically speaking, Laxus should low diff Erza. We also knew that going by the Mashima logic, Erza should be able to asspull her way out of this fight and somehow win like against Irene.
So seeing the Chad Laxus still win against Mary Sue Queen of Asspulls only makes him more impressive than he's ever been. He didn't just beat Erza, he beat the Mashima logic.
maybe you should have indepth discussion with those people who were involved in the discussion.
but i have no problem agreeing with you, laxus overwhelmed erza, when erza was holding back (soon to become famous statement, no matter how much laxus fans try to pretend laxus never said that)
you know, when you actually see the last chapter of their fight, it was off paneled a bit from what it seemed.
that seems right, but after erza stopped holding back, author message is clear, they stood equal. even their final exchange had no winner
yeah, now.
unless you think this fight would be the same since the beginning of FT
pretty much always
there is also no indication in the manga that erza had finally closed the gap. hell their is no mention of the gap period.
intsead all we got is erza shock that laxus is slightly stronger than herself
it is interesting, that there seems to be no editorial quote of how can erza will beat laxus (if laxus was so much stronger than erza, wouldnt such editorial comment come) . and both got same amount of power boost.
i mean i have hard time imagining in a hypothetical scenario where gray and gildart fight, gildart will match gray new tricks with his own new tricks
. that is just not how its done in mangas

maybe we should first define the term 'logically speaking'
the fun part is erza didnt do her normal shenanigan. thats is the fun part. because if it was pof erza (the person we see generally see at the end of the arcs)we know for a fact that even if there were five laxuses, they will lose.
too bad laxus was actually a good guy and erza really didnt have much stake i the fight
come to think of it. laxus has never lost a fight ever since his good guy turn. even when faced with overwhelming odds like jura or guy who powers up lightening or magic eating cancer
laxus seems second biggest mary sue at the moment, following natsu very closely
Not this time mate
I am only talking recent panel. The one we have now. So no circular arguments for you. Why was erza so shocked that laxus has become this strong. Didnt she see him against hades, heard about him beating jura, his ajeel nuke. Erza statement seems to imply laxus performance wouldnt be this good in the past.
Kiria also didnt mention how erza is trying to fight a monster. Instead talked about two monsters
Why did laxus and erza got equal amount of boost if laxus was obviously superior
Why is there no editor comment about how is erza gonna win here
Nothing old here mate. All new
Who are you kidding, you never took me seriously
Laxus lost to aconologia
Seriously thats your example
He didnt lose to hades, he was about to, then left on his own. He didnt lose againsd tempester either. Maximum you can call it a draw.
Mary sue, basically means a perfect character. Authors favorite.
Author is always perfectly behind him, never humiliates him. And he always comes out on top.
Laxus fits that bill. Sorry mate
Natsu is almost like that. But he gets his beaten too.
Erza has been on losing spree of some kind in start of ever arc since tartarus
Laxus no, whether he suffering from a weak heart or dying of magic eating cancer, he will still have more magiv power than people who canonically have more magic power than him
Mary Sue is a term used to describe a fictional character, usually female, who is seen as too perfect and almost boring for lack of flaws, originally written as an idealized version of an author in fanfiction.

Escanor comes to my mind when i think of mary sue, from seven sins
But yeah, laxus is what you call a perfect character. The guy literally has no flaws

Yes, but that's because he's actually strong, not because he somehow cuts meteors AND dragons in half with all of his bones broken (due to said dragon using a single slap). Laxus winning against overwhelming odds is actually a clutch: for Erza, it's a writer freebie.
We can add even more complexity in this by taking into consideration that all these speed feats happened while Erza was holding back. Laxus words, not mine

So you reckon that without Erza buffs (meaning no enchantment what so ever), she would have lost to red lightning laxus with additional blood lost boost at high diff?
That’s an incorrect interpretation of what was said though, so what’s logical about it? I mean, again the crux of our conversation is over emphasizing 1 statement and taking it out of context, while we ignore everything else said during the fight. I’m amazed how much time you spend commenting about Laxus telling Erza she has no chance against him trying to hold back. While ignoring a speech about how wrong Erza, and by extension all of you, was about the gap in their respective power. Erza cannot keep up with Laxus, as she stated in that overlong speech she gave. Let’s focus on what’s important, not Erza’s cockiness and mistake at the start, but the lesson learned by the end.
1) Laxus didn’t receive any boosts. Let’s be clear with our vernacular, his attack power went up because of his Berserker nature for RLDM, but that’s an internal ability. Now an outside help or boost.
2) Yes, because it doesn’t look like they survived the retaliation blast from Laxus. Much like none of her swords survived his final attack. Which only goes to further make a point about her biggest blow in the entire battle being reliant on outside help. She doesn’t get another solid hit like that in.
Why are we still debating this? Laxus is stronger than Erza. Done. They had a close battle. Some will say it would've been easier if he didn't fight Kyria which is true to a certain extent. Erza received some "questionable" new swords.
Laxus is undoubtedly the strongest mage on Aldoron.

Not true man. Laxus is strong, that's it. But he doesn't defeat overpowered opponents, he defeats only those who are in his league and below. Hades beat Laxus fair and square, with an attack weaker than what Makarov tanked, this was after he turned good, so yea he has lost after he turned god. He didn't get BS to defeat someone out of his league.
In fact, out of everything Laxus has ever done in the series, the only bullshit or asspull, is him pulling out Red Lightning against Wahl. Everything else was fair.
Erza, Wendy, Natsu = Mary Sue
Erza had all her bones (except those in one of her arm?) broken, and cut a damn meteor; and proceeded to one shot dragon Eileen. Erza won against Kyouka for no logical reason than 'she's Erza'. She dispelled historia by just glaring at them. She literally can't die, no matter what you do to her.
Wendy, I'm tired of explaining at this point lmao.
Natsu defeated an immortal with infinite magic power by 'savage flames', ate God flames inspite of it being established earlier that he can't. Healed through utter BS, a lethal hole in his body, against Animus from 'Lucy's tears'. The guy, like Erza, literally can't die no matter what you do to him.
IMO The best case you can make, for Laxus being a mary sue, is his illogical, exponential growth in 1 year timeskip between x791 and x792. But that applies to every relevant good character.
2:0 in first chapter
7:2 or 7:3 in second (unless you count 6 slashes together like @Jko did, in which case 7:8 or 7:9 :P). But if we count instances of attacks, then 7:2 or 7:3
uncountable in final chapter, they gave upon defence/dodge and went for all out attack
Erza had more hits. It's the same in any other fighting sport, you count the number of hits landed not how many landed out of a combo attack.
Saying my logic is flawed yet providing no actual counter argument is hilarious. Fact of the matter is, the hit ratio was 9:7 in chapter 45. Chapter 46 was 12:7 ratio in Erza's favor of hits. Saying Laxus had more hits bcs he hit separate times is just downplay of Erza's capabilities to land more successful hits in an instant than Laxus can. Also Laxus lightning shocking her is not an additional hit bcs it's the same hit that he punched or lightning bolted her that is shocking her. He's hitting once not multiple times.
Also this is a manga with wizards, dragons, immortals, and demons who can nuke towns with flick of the wrist and you are surprised that they can pull of multiple attacks in an instance? Y'all act like Erza is the first to pull of multi-hit attack in an instance. Gild punched 13 times in one instant attack.
That would still be considered 13 hits not 1 since they are separate attacks. Single attack = 1 hit. Multi attack = multi hits.

Wendy, Erza, and Natsu aren't Mary Sues. Getting asspulls or rando power ups doesn't equal a Mary Sue or Gary Stu.
From what was shown in the fight, you could see Jura had an edge. Then when it comes back on screen, Laxus knocked him out with roaring thunder. It was bs in how Mashima transitioned the fight from point A to B.
Also, if you want to bring up portrayal, Makarov didn't think Laxus could win and Laxus called Jura a monster. Only Freed had faith, lol

I agree your sentiments, completely. Even I was bummed by what happened (esp because the most hyped fight of GMG was OFF SCREENED),
IMO, what happened was Laxus outlasted Jura, but in pure combat Jura was > Laxus.
And yes, technically I can't bring up portrayal because portrayal between Jellal and Laxus was set only after/since GMG arc, I'm just backtracking from our known portrayal.
This is how I see stats in GMG, while trying to make sense of how both Jura fights went:
