I think he meant the recent fight, Since he was advertising his FT sequel constantly during this interview. He know for a fact that a lot of the fans don't read the sequel and he is just insisting on advertising it over and over again

Mashima forgets how to draw FT characters, He maybe the author of the manga but i'm sure there is a power scaling editor in his team, He lacks so much information about his own manga in many aspects, I ve noticed that everytime he is in an interview, He even sometimes contradicts himself or goes against manga facts.

I mean, if we're counting Brandish then we might as well count Dimaria. And Kyria. Mirajane too, unless you think she was weaker than Kyria.

Kyria and Mirajane wouldn't count because Lucy didn't actually full fledge fight Kyria. Both Wendy and Lucy have protection magic that neither used. It would be similar to the Brandish versus Lucy fight. There is more that each character could have done to alter the fight that wasn't used. Same with Mirajane the battle wasn't finished and both parties where left standing and both parties still had many many more moves that could have been done.

The only way to say Character X truly outclassed Character y is if Character X fought competently during battle using a huge portion of their arsenal. If they only use 2 attacks out of 100 you can't seriously justify make a claim of character X being outclassed. We have no idea how Taurus form or Aquarius form would have performed against Mirajane because they were never used. Also don't say it wouldn't have made a difference because Aquarius form defenses is far greater than Leo forms and Taurus forms Physical powers is far superior to Leo Form. So both forms would have made a difference in the fight.

I disagree, Jura only used one attack on God Serena, and it wasn't even Mt Fuji, don't mean he wasn't outclassed. Sure he could have used Rock Mountain to block Serena's attacks and stuck around longer, but his defeat was inevitable, just like Lucy and Wendy vs Kyria. You could say the same for a lot of fights that end in a stomp, they rarely ever show the loser using all they got, Neinhart vs Natsu, Laxus vs Tempester, Jura vs Orga, Laxus vs Raven Tail, etc

How didn't Lucy fight Kyria? Kyria cut through her Aqua Metria and shredded the Aquarius star dress in their first encounter. In their second encounter, Kyria oneshotted Lucy with a roar inside of Virgo's sand trap. What exactly could Lucy have done to protect herself?

Brandish was holding back against Lucy. She never used her max size, and could have just done any of the things Dimaria suggested.

Lucy already used her star dress mix against Mirajane and Elfman. Unless you believe the Aquarius/Taurus dresses are superior to the mix, then I doubt it would have made a difference. Mirajane went on to have an entire fight with the Dragon Eaters after that too. Madmole oneshotted Taurus, and he has better defense and physical strength than any star dress form or spirit.

Neinheart could have summoned Zancrow Historia to eat Natsu flames or one of the Tatarous demons like Sayla, Kyouka, etc to use thier hax on him.
Raven tail could have nullified Laxus magic the same way they nullified Lucy and Wendy.
Tempesta could have used Gravity to stop Laxus from moving.

Mind you none of these characters used those attacks at any time during their confrontations.

As far as the others I can't say because I have no idea what other attack they could have used to counter. However I know Lucy has a spirit designed for High defensive capability and so does Wendy have enchantments for this. So if not used during battle all the difference would be made. If Horologium wasn't used in battle against Jacob Lucy and Co would have been trapped in Transport, or if he never saved Wendy from Hades Nuke or is he never saved dude from the Larva. The outcome would have been different had this defensive mechanism not been used. Same with Wendy blocking an attack from Dimiaria if she never did that then Third Origin Chelia would have been overpowered.

So don't say they don't make a difference because we have literally seen they do. Even simple attacks like light, mask or Wool has made huge differences in outcomes of events.

What makes you think Hologium could have tanked Kyria's attack? Even if that could work, Lucy would have to react faster than Kyria could roar. And she couldn't.

Not really, because the difference between a shrunk Lucy and regular Brandish is nowhere near max Gajeel and a regular human. Also, Brandish can shrink Lucy while enlarging herself. And yeah, Brandish didn't just pop one of Lucy's organs.

The water shield is just water. Mirajane could just punch Lucy through the water shield. Come to think of it, Mirajane could just use Sitri to vaporize all the water her surroundings. Kyria could cut through Aqua Metria and the star dress itself, which should be stronger than the water shield anyways. So again unless you think Mirajane is weaker than Kyria, she should have no problem here too.

Madmole hurt Natsu with his own demolition fist. Lucy can't do this. And Madmole oneshotted Taurus, so what makes you think Taurus form could go toe to toe with Elfman?
