Sniff dodged aside Canter's punch and palmed the outstretched arm away from him, then leapt at his enemy, right knee first. It dealt a glancing blow to the ribs, then as he landed he felt the brute force of a knee to his own ribs. He dropped to his knees but as Canter's left hand came round to strike him in the back of the head, he dived forward, rolling across the carriage flow and coming to a crouching position to face his opponent once more. Canter had already skipped over to him and raised his forward leg to kick. Sniff stood and, having anticipated the attack, extended his own leg to block the kick before it was barely off the ground with his foot. But Sniff now literally had his back to the wall. He weaved to avoid a straight right punch which slammed into the wood behind him but Canter's left fist dealt him a rib-shaking body blow. Sniff recovered before Canter could attack again and brought his right elbow crashing into the man's chin. Apparently stunned, the boxer stumbled backwards, long enough for the Take Over Mage to deliver a powerful skipping side kick to his chest. Thrown completely off his feet, he tumbled across the carriage floor.
Sniff felt the rush he always did when he was in a tough fight and he knew an attack had hit home - part disbelief, part satisfaction. Canter was a skilled fighter; good reflexes, fast and strong. Sniff had great instincts for this kind of fight but even he was only able to match him. And to make matters worse, his vision was starting to blur.
'Damn, didn't expect you to be so good!' Canter admitted with a laugh as he lay face up on the floor. 'But I got a punch in - y'know what that means!'
Sniff started, remembering Canter's Magic. But he could still hear, still see, still feel, so...? 'What have you done?!' Sniff tried to demand, but nothing happened. No sound came from his mouth.
'Haha, have you realised it yet?! I've taken your voice!! Now you can't even scream for help as I pummel you to death!!' the cruel man cackled as he got to his feet. 'Oh, and I stole something else, too!' It was then that Sniff saw what he was holding. Canter held his glasses. Before he could stop himself, their eyes had met. A moment later everything went dark.
'When did he take them?! When I got him with my elbow, it must have been! That's why my vision's blurred!!' Sniff thought desperately. Then he felt a knee in his ribs once more and he fell to his knees before collapsing on the floor, clutching his chest and gasping for air.
'Mage, are you alright?!' one of the guards shouted.
'Oh he's far from alright, my friend,' said Canter's voice from somewhere nearby. 'Ain't that right, Bright Eyes?! Hahahaaaa!'
The blast shattered the bull and as it rushed towards him Gekko cast a hasty defensive spell. 'Clay-Make: Shield!' A huge shield with an image of a lizard on it appeared before him to take the brunt of the attack. It cracked upon impact with the incredible power of the Magic and only held together for a moment more. 'Clay-Make: Double Shield!' Two more shields appeared and both were broken one after another, but they had done their job; the attack was over.
The Celestial Dragon's Roar had torn almost the entire the roof off the first carriage (its occupants were looking up in astonishment) and even with three shields, some of the flames had successfully licked round them and torn Gekko's clothes. 'What power!' he marveled as dust swirled around him. When it settled, however, he found his opponent had vanished! 'The engine!'
Immediately Okami's plan had become clear to Gekko. He jumped down through the open roof into the carriage. The door at the far end was open, giving him a direct view into the engine cabin. There he saw Okami's hand reaching for the brake lever...!
'Clay-Make: Python!' Gekko yelled, charging forward at full speed. The huge snake he summoned flew the length of the carriage, barely missing a couple of Goblin Coin's members and straight into the cabin! More dust filled the air and Gekko watched intently for the scene to become clear. As visibility was restored, he saw the broken brake lever now only a stub. But the screech of the brakes told him his adversary had been successful. The train was beginning to slow down...
'Please, don't kill me!!' screamed Clint as he clutched Dante's hand, trying in vain to tear it from his head. Dante was standing over him, parts of his body semi-frozen, others singed from electrical shock, but still he stood, apparently unaware. Clint's crumpled guns lay discarded on the carriage floor. His head felt like it was about to implode. 'No, please, please, let me go!!'
