Since this issue keeps coming up in the chapter discussion thread... I decided to create a thread dedicated to the debate.
"Why are there any people/families in the present a challenge for the Vongolia after they defeated the biggest of the bad in the future?"
Please from now on leave the Chapter discussions to that... the chapters.

My 2 cents:
The main issue people NEED to remember about the Future arc, was that Byakuran had infinite knowledge of every possibility! Thus allowing him to know exactly how and when to take down rival families.
He also had technology and info that allowed him to gain the upper hand.
So the Shimon Family could of been taken out before they were even the Shimon Family. Certain weaknesses (everyone has them) could of been exploited against them, ex. the 7^3 ray that got rid of the STRONGEST beings the Arcobaleno.
Just as there were infinite dimensions that Byarukan had knowledge of, such is the way of curb stomping any and all opposition.
So in a sense... Byarukan and the RFW's did not necessarily have to be the strongest to stand on top, they just had to gain the knowledge on how, when and where to take down other families.
As moonueki21 has blatantly stated... Byarukan cheated.
Besides, this bit of story... everything that comes after the Future arc WILL introduce characters/mafias that are stronger than the previous ones.
Tis the way of the Shounen.
