Because it's a stupid design. Not much point in having a notification LED that only blinks for 5 minutes. Surely having to manually check and have the display on consumes more power than the LED flashing for a few hours.

It's the same on mine as well, so I was curious to know if they changed it on the newer Sense UI versions. Surprised it's not changed. =/

My brother's Droid Razr Maxx has an interesting feature that blinks different colors depending on what the notification is. Facebook is Blue, Twitter is Cyan, Green is SMS, and missed calls are Red I think. I think it can even be tweaked for other apps as well.

Both. It makes accessing apps easier and quicker so you don't have to hit the home button or scroll through the screen or app list.

Never tried Dolphin's shortcuts thing, but Charlie's brother installed that on my phone. PRetty solid for private browsing.

I had the opportunity of using Samsung Galaxy SIII for few days. I am really impressed. No wonder it won Gadget and Smartphone of the Year awards. I totally loved it.

I wish I could get my hands on a note 3 - currently using an htc evo design but it pales in comparison with the note.

Note 4? You mean Galaxy Note or is it something else. My brother-in-law has been using Note for over a year now. He is very happy with it. Another Apple user I converted into Android user. He is going to get Note II soon. I haven't used evo but I heard it was good. HTC used to be my favorite but they aren't good in two areas:

• Battery time
• Camera

Samsung in these categories, in comparison, has shown far better results.

Maybe Charlie meant the Note series?

To be honest Note looks so good. Unfortunately the price is just too high for me to reach. And I'm worried about all those features; as cool as they sound I may not use all of them, since what I need is basically a phone to send messages and to call and a tablet to view documents. Note smartphones, although bigger than my current phone, are still small to view documents. Then I wanted to get Note 10" as my tablet, but after consulting the features aren't much different compared to Tab 10" and because the price differs greatly, I chose Tab.

I have similar views about Note series. They are too big for me to carry and smaller as a replacement for tab. Still, what I have seen of Note I, they perform very well.

A couple of days back I got a software update for my S3 and I am under the impression that since then my phone's battery life has been significantly reduced. Anyone has had a similar experience or is this just me?

I honestly dunno as I use a different battery, but could it be possible you've been doing incorrect things?

Have you tried restarting the phone? Have heard people mention that, but not sure if it's just a placebo effect.

Right now I think my phone is fine. I suspect the reason for the battery dying so fast on me was because the internet connection I used to download the update was slow so the phone spent a rather large amount of time downloading it.
