New (as far as I'm aware) theory on Mihawk. Most people seem to expect him not to have a DF, both to parallel Zoro and because it seems having a DF makes someone less cool somehow on these boards. Oda clearly doesn't share the latter opinion, so I don't think that rules out Mihawk.

His ship (if you could call it that) has kind of a vampire coffin motif; if he has a fruit I think it might be along those lines. Some kind of blood or life-stealing fruit.

Edit: Oh yeah, and then there's the name Dracule, so that either makes the theory stronger, or makes it irrelevant if the only purpose for the coffin ship is the name and vice versa.
Edit 2: Mihawk tells Zoro he will wait for him in his strongest form. Is this an odd translation, is it suggesting he'll use his full power next time, or maybe a Zoan fruit?
Edit 3: Then he tells Krieg he's going back to sleep. Like a vampire hibernating in his coffin? Ok, that's enough of this theory for now.

well, Mihawk might have an ability (and you're theory is wells structurated by the way) but is he really and old school guy? i mean he was arround rogers era, like Shanks and Bugy, but he was a youngster, hi is at his full now, not then, so does he really counts?

I'd say he counts about as much as Shanks does. And Shanks and Garp I think are the strongest cases for fewer DFs; maybe Raleigh as well.

well, even if he counts, there're still quite a few non DF users, and as i said before, we don't know all about the pirates of that time, there's a preaty good chanse that there were a lot of fruit users even then

There are probably more fruit users from the new generation around and becoming famous. But no more than a generation ago.

No more or less, I think it's naturally regulated.
as many people would have had them.
Just now is the great pirate age

I think it's better to assume that more people on the Grand Line have the fruits than outside of it.

Think about it...

If you have the power to chop yourself up into millions of pieces or slow time, would you really want to piece together a living in West Blue with nothing to interact with, or would you push your luck in the GL and possibly become a Merchant, Marine or Pirate?

well Bugy was very comfortable in west blue, he just went to the grandline to chase after Luffy, and he has a DF, but your point is no less true cuz of this, it only shows how much of a coward Bugy is

click me

it think this is saying enough ^^
______

concerning the topic

a possible reason could be, if oda wanted the strongest of the older generation be dfusers, he had to give them very mighty dfs (a fruit with less combatpower would just make "the old heroes" looking ridiculous).
so maybe he just didn´t want to waste them putting in a character with minor appearance in the manga...

above that it would -for me- just destroy the nimbus of a pirate king knowing he was a logia-user!
