I'm voting for Gildarts right now, but might change votes depending on comments.

We don't know how much Gildartz trained, if at all, during the time skip.
And even Gray hasn't shown a lot recently since his only battle was against Fake Ul and was more of a Lyon battle.

We lack feats to really determine who would have the upper hand, so i'll assumre they equally trained during the year, and thus i'll vote for Gildartz. The guuy was a beast back then, if he trained a bit he should still be able to beat Gray despite his Devil power up.

Gildarts doesn't have what it takes to dodge Ice Devil's Zeroth Destruction Bow, so I will give this to Gray pretty easy since I'm excluding hype in this tournament.

It's actually a really hard choice for me coz I get both sides of the argument.

I don't wanna diss Gray by picking Gildarts, as I think Tenrou Gildarts would get slammed by current Natsu. I also don't wanna diss Gildarts by picking a feat-low Gray, coz Gildarts has fairly impressive feats even by current-skip standards and can tank what Gray's shown (the converse cannot be said).

Someone please make this an easy choice for me

Gray should be able to stomp Bluenote and is at least on Base Natsu lvl so he definitely gets past Gildarts.

This matchup is kind of unfair and just comes down to fanboyism. we don't know what level Gildarts is right now, he could still be at Bluenote's level and for all we know Gray could be at a Spriggan tier level.

But if I had to choose based on the nature of their magic I'd say Gildarts because of he's crush magic would just destroy Gray's Ice. In less Gray can freeze Gildarts body he loses.

But I have a feeling Gray has surpassed Gildarts. It's sad he hasn't had a good fight yet.

Gray may be feat low but Current Gildarts is featless. Gray at the least is on Base Natsu's level who easily stomped Bluenote, it may be hard by Gray is the winner here. Gray with Portrayal and few feats>Featless Gildarts

It should also be pointed out that Gray was a strategic fighter before he became a powerhose post-timeskip vs Gildarts more barbaric and careless fighting style. Gildarts has made mistakes in his fights and has carelessly destroy houses because of his lack of control.

Gray could easily freeze the ground below Gildarts causing him to carelessly use his magic on it which would cause him to fall in to a pit for all we know.
That just an example but Gray could out think Gildarts with ease.
