Hmm. I haven't paid much attention to the French music scene for a long time tbh. Let's see....I'm into Télépopmusik, Malajube, Autour De Lucie, Bob Sinclar, Kyo, Phoenix, Nouvelle Vage, M83 and a couple more artists that I can't remember atm. ><

I probably listen to Daft Punk, Nouvelle Vage and Phoenix/M83 the most out of the rest. Who can forget David Guetta!? lol I'm guessing you're into the more traditional kind of french music, k-dom!? Easy listening type!? o.O

Edit: oh and I confess that I'm a big fan of Sheryfa Luna. Even though 90% of her material is mainstream candy pop crap. I love her voice and there are a few gems in her previous LP's. =)

if you are counting from the bottom perhaps :-)
and she doesn't write her songs. Her French ones are written by Jean Jacques Goldman. Ah JJG! All the French 80's by himself. With shame, one must confess that one knows his songs lyrics by heart.

My older brother LOVES Jean Jacques Goldman, he can talk about him all day!! .

Serge Gainsbourg, wasn't he the one that was really controversial?

It was in Champs Elysées, the big show in prime time on Saturday in the 80's.
There is also one where he burn a 500F bill (~100$). But I don't think his music is controversial, everyone agrees he was great.

His problem was more that he was alcoholic.
Sfar made a movie about him, but I did not see it.
