Scanning Help with Scanning

It's my fisrt time scanning a Magazine raw, and I really don't know how to do it.
Do you guys have any tip?

First, you get a scanner.
Then, you put a page in the scanner.
Then, you scan the page.

Seriously, though, a few more details would help. Are you using the scanner software itself? Are you going through Photoshop, like I am? Do you care if you have to tear apart the magazine, like I don't?
