I've been in this business for some 10 months now and I'm left with few questions but this one's been on my mind for a while now.

How in the blazes do I create something like this (WORST spoilers!)?

http://img221.imageshack.us/img221/9775/dmmsworstv14c054070071pg9.png
with a usable font?

(if anyone would know what font ^that is, and if it comes with a stroke to make it more 'sketchy', I'd appreciate it too)

Obviously it's no ordinary stroke. I doubt it's the font itself either. I know about the pattern overlay to get 'bubbles' in the text but that's where my knowledge ends.

So basically what I need to know is 'how to use huge paintstroke-esque text/stroke for screaming'.

...It all seems kinda vague reading it, but I hope I made myself clear enough for my questions to be answered.

That's precisely what I need thank you.

Would you happen to have a link to the fonts? The 3rd one in particular.

Edit: searched and found, thanks a bunch.

As far as the second one is considered, the trick to getting it to look somewhat similar is using a pattern. This is just thrown together to give you an idea, so forgive me if it isn't quite complete.

First step, make a copy of the original layer, and start to fill out the pattern a bit more.

Second step, use the rectangular marquee to make a selection (hold shift to make sure it's square).

Third step, go to Edit->Define Pattern and follow through with the dialog to create the pattern.

Final step, typeset your text, then open up the layer properties and add a pattern.

Just used a random font to give you an idea.

Meh -_- Filling in fonts isn't really needed -_-

You could look at the Kekkaishi font scheme if you can see it -_- lots of usable fonts there XD

Well, you may as well get it as close to what the original mangaka had. No reason not to as it's not particularly difficult, and even if it detracts from the overall emphasis, it was the choice of the mangaka to make.

It's a good explanation, but didn't answer the question I'm trying to ask. When I said "I know about the pattern overlay to get 'bubbles' in the text but that's where my knowledge ends, I meant I knew how to do that and as a matter of fact, I got a couple of patterns that include those bubbles from a tutorial site and have already been using pattern overlay for several volumes. What I meant was, for example on this page http://img267.imageshack.us/img267/9125/dmmsworstv14c053052053frd7.png , how to create those lines outside of the actual letters. The ones that look like a stroke but aren't, at least not fully and used by us Manga Editors.

Of course, if it is actually real brush stroking instead of a font used by the mangaka, and thus never identical in any bubble, that answers my question right there, but I'm not sure.

Umberto in CAPS makes those kinds of lines.

You can scour the net for ps plug-ins for stroke ;P
