I actually have a legit question! Not some nonsense some people are arguing about. But first I'd like to comment on how I'm reading about some people complaining about Hisoka's death. I'm hearing about suffocation, brain dmg blah blah. I think some people are just angry and just looking for excuses that isn't making sense. Stop looking at pieces, look at the whole picture. Some of the comments are really trying to bring real world logic to anime and that's just ridiculous. Any anime you watch will have microscopic plot holes if you analyze the smallest details and compare to the real world. Nen does doesn't exists, those ridiculous chimaera ants doesn't exist, everything is supernatural in anime universe. Stop trying to over think things and just accept that there are to an certain degree, going to be times you will never 100% understand everything. If that really bothers you. Just stop watching/reading anime all together because there is not a single anime out there that has NO tiny plot holes. Manga writers aren't professional doctors, they don't have official degrees in chemistry, science, and other technical fields. Their story comes from their imagination and they do their best to write it out. Stop nit picking on the small things that caused an outcome you didn't want to happen or expect. Just enjoy the story-line. (FYI, there has been real cases of people survived drowning under water for over 30 mins. So miracles do happen!) And After death, nen takes on the will of the person and ACTS on its own. "Nen becoming stronger after death" is a miracle Hisoka took advantage of to be resurrected. No one actually knows the full extent of what "nen becomes stronger after death" can do. The possibilities are infinite.

NOW, MOVING ON...to something actually relevant! So now that we have all accepted Hisoka's resurrection. I have a question about his limbs which were blown up (Hand and feet). My question is this: Are his hands and feet recovered like before or is he just masking his crippled state by replacing his finger with rubber lol. Some say he is still crippled and his limbs are just fake or acting as a crutch. However, I believe he is actually fully recovered to brand new old Hisoka we all knew. My reasoning is this. Hisoka first recovers using his Bungee gum (transmutation) type of nen which he first replaces his missing fingers into prosthetic rubber fingers and feet. His new nen fingers are then basically nonadhesive hard rubber fingers. At this point he still has "prostetic" limbs which are not flesh, but hard rubber. At this point, regular humans who cannot use nen will still see Hisoka as a cripple missing feet and a hand. However, Hisoka uses a 2nd step. He applies "texture surprise" to his own bungee gum. Texture surprise is a (Conjuration) type nen which is the only way in which Nen can create REAL OBJECTS that ordinary people (unaware of Nen) can see and touch. Since conjuration is the ability to create a physical, independent, material object out of one's aura we can assume his "texture surprise" this time is not hiding anything but retexturing his bungee gum fingers into REAL FLESH. This is because he manifests his thoughts onto his rubber fingers to change it INTO flesh. Therefore, in my opinion since Hisoka can "conjure up" real flesh he is not a cripple. It is as though his limbs were never even blown off from the beginning. Please, comment on my question, no more ninpicking because that's a waste of time. I'd like to read your thoughts and reasoning if you disagree with my logic. Though I'd like to say beforehand, neither of us may be right or wrong.

(Noticed I am asking a question that helps me understand the laws of physics in hxh universe. Not trying to apply any real world mumbo jumbo to this question)

You're suggesting that he created skin, bone, muscle, nerve, ligaments, etc using texture surprise? Texture surprise just mimics things, it's a deception, appearance only. It's called 'flimsy lies' in Japanese. He cannot use it to heal himself. Plus we saw in the panel before he killed Shalnark that his foot is made of rubber, it squashed down.

I think this scene to be resolved you first have to ask, did Hisoka actually did more than just CPR on himself?

If that's all he did, then that means in the world of HXH you can be declared as 'totally dead' even though all it took was some CPR and you'll be alive as long as the rest of your body is preserved, which means 'totally dead' is apparently very poorly defined in the world of HXH since no rational person will think that's what 'totally dead' means. In this case you can live indefinitely with the help of someone with an ability similar to Pitou (Kite certainly looked more alive compared to Hisoka, as nobody was able to tell that Kite actually died). And if there was something special about what Hisoka did, it sure didn't look like it. It's not just a 'gets stronger after death' deal, because you still have to do something special and I sure can't see what Hisoka did beyond CPR himself + preserved his organs, and by that logic as long as you can preserve someone's body they can pretty much always come back to life later as long as the body is intact. Then the better question to ask is why aren't people used to the dead getting resurrected.

Can you please explain your reasoning why he can't do that? I 100% believe he created skin, bone, muscle, nerve, legaments etc. You may need to read what "conjuration" nen can do. It can literally create ANY object you desire based on what you imagine. Just because we've only see Hisoka use texture surprise as "deception" doesn't mean he always uses it to deceive people. Perhaps his rubber now mimics real flesh and still can move. If it can mimic real flesh it is real flesh. Maybe you're right. His feet are made of rubber still. But that section of the manga was really blurry so it's still hard to know for sure. We'll have to see more future fights to confirm it then. In the future, if his hands and feet gives him trouble during a battle then we know for sure.

@Phantron. You're nit picking about organs preservation again (trying to bring real world logic to anime). Which will NEVER make sense, Plus Kitou had his entire head decapitated from his body. If you really want to bring real world logic to anime. There has been MANY cases where even medical practitioners labeled many patients clinically dead. Yet, when they buried them, actually somehow were "not" totally dead and tried to claw and scream their way out. History has hundreds of cases were people were pronounced medically dead and were still buried alive. These mistakes were made by REAL doctors. Although these are highly and extremely rare cases. They do exist. So knowing strange things that defy common sense in the real world. Why cant you just use some imagination and give HxH the benefit of the doubt that maybe Phantom troop made a "mistake" in labeling Hisoka dead lol? Who knows. Like I said before, HxH like many other anime will keep things vague and some terms you just can't take literally. When plot holes do arise, we can use our imaginations to fill them out. It's pointless trying to bring real world logic to anime universe. We all have to be creative here alright?

Let me give you a good example of how to use creativity and imagination to stretch real world logic. Let's not bring any real world stuff into here. Pitou had Doctor Blythe, a surgical ability that can reconstruct most injuries. However, that has severe limitation because it is a power that only acts as a surgical tool. But that kind of power is not even close to Phantom Troop Machi's power of "Nen Stitches." Machi's nen stitches can repair "stitch" things at a cellular level. Her nen strings even has regenerative properties, revitalizing the dead cells and even stimulating the production of new ones.

Now, real world logic would argue that's impossible. Because how can she stitch back each fiber, ligaments and cell back together? She doesn't have a microscope in her eyeballs to see all those tiny tiny cells. See what I mean here? So Since Pitou only can surgically reattach things. She just attached Kitou's body together including his head and turned him into a puppet. However, I'd like to be very very BOLD here and state something very controversial to those who keep attempting to bring real world logic in here. I'm going to strongly believe, that if Machi were to use her nen stitches on Kitou's head and reattach it to his body. I think Kitou could still be alive! Yes I said it!! Does it make sense? Absolutely not. Am I using my imagination? Yes I am. Am I having fun thinking about it? Yes I am lol.

The way he replaced his foot makes me think that he has not reproduced human flesh, he has a rubber foot which his BETTER than human foot.
The same with his hand.

So after death, it seems that Hisoka's gamble made his body stronger, not to mention his abilities (i.e.: scarf no longer needed).

Now nitpicking: if his hand and foot are nen-made, it means they slowly consume his nen because he need to keep them active. Also, how can you do it when you are sleeping? If you deactivate it, you'll suffer from blood loss.

Maybe those abilities could be used for temporary healing, but Hisoka still needs to heal himself. It should make sense.
We'll know next Hisoka's appearance.

No offense. But I think you don't understand conjuration type nen fully. I will reference briefly, "It is the ability to create a physical, independent, material object out of one's aura. This means the object will continue existing even if they were at a considerable distance from the Conjurer, or even if the Conjurer themselves are not aware that they have yet to be de-materialized." So there is no "leaking" nen.

The whole 'use your imagination' is a cheap copout, and it's refuted directly by the source itself. It doesn't matter how unrealistic HXH is because the assessment of Hisoka's death was given by characters in the world itself. If any of these theories actually hold water, someone like Machi should have said, "Wait a minute, if we just apply any of these crazy things people say I can pull off Hisoka could've come back to life", and then at that point the three should've come to the conclusion that they better smash Hisoka's head to pieces in case he does come back to life since they're supposed to be there to make sure he's actually dead.

There's some serious ego trip here for people to assume that they somehow know about a fictional world better than three guys who spent their entire life in the said universe and generally dealing with a lot of life and death situations on a regular basis. Of course you can totally tell why Hisoka wasn't actually dead, but three guys who grew up in that universe to check on his corpse to make sure he's dead totally can't figure it out.

No offense here, don't worry.
My understanding is this: 2 two steps
1) Put gum to replace hand and foot
2) Use Texture Surprise to recreate original appearance

Gum is a transmuter ability, so it needs to be kept active.
If Hisoka managed to do everything with (2) it doesn't explain why Hisoka foot bounces when he killed Shalnark

Yeah I see what you mean. I'm glad to agree with those steps. But since Texture Surprise is a conjuration type ability. That's where I drew my conclusions ya know? Usually he changes the "texture" of things like a cloth. But this time he just changed his transmuter nen into something like flesh. He directly changed the texture of the source. You could be right though. If you're right. Hisoka should be more weaker than before because he will lack mobility right?

@Phantron *sigh* You know what. Think that way then. Think that way so you will never enjoy and appreciate HxH fully. However, i'm not sure if you read everything I said earlier. Or understood anything I wrote. But mistakes happen. Troops can make mistakes. It IS a possibility they didn't think of that. Has it ever occurred to you to think these characters can't think of EVERYTHING? Arguing these people "grew up" in this anime is assuming everyone who grows up in any world knows about EVERYTHING in that world. Do YOU know about everything in this world? Probably not. Neither do I. Real medical professionals in the real life spent their entire lives and still make mistakes. Just as doctors who are an expert with years of experience still make mistakes when out of the ordinary things happen. Characters in HxH can also make mistakes and expect unexpected things to happen. The source doesn't refute imagination. I think you're just having trouble accepting what happened. I'm just trying to make sense of what ALREADY happened. I'm not sure if you're complaining about Hisoka not being dead or if you're complaining about how HxH doesn't fit into real world logic. If you're still stuck up on that train of thought I'll just leave you alone with those thoughts.. I need to talk to someone who doesn't dwell on the small things. Moving on...

I mean just the opposite. Hisoka's foot was bouncing because it was made of gum, Texture Surprise just change the appearance, but Hisoka foot still have the properties of rubber and gum.
Hisoka vs Chrollo match could have been a power-up to Hisoka for the events yet to come.

Hisoka's resurrection is based on his original hatsu, which is unique.
It could be the first time somebody manages to do something like that, so Machi and the others could be not aware of this being possible, despite their great experience in the hunterverse.

What exactly makes you think that bungee gum cannot contract if hisoka does not move his limbs? It did so throughout the manga, contracting and expanding at will.

And no, once his fingers were blown off, he said he could use it with less accuracy, not that he could not use it.
In fact him saying that he can use it without fingers does contradict what you said.
Bungee gum works like this: Hisoka points somewhere and it shoots out, like spiderman, and then he can contract it again.
For example in the fight against chrollo, when hisoka was lying on the ground, he used max contract to pull himself away from chrollo while still guarding himself with his legs and arms:

http://view.thespectrum.net/series/hunter-x-hunter.html?ch=Chapter+351&page=13

He is guarding himself while shooting the gum and still guarding himself while contracting it.
There is no indication at all that he has to move his limb to shoot or contract.
He just usually points his finger or fist for that to enhance accuracy.

Why is that pathetic? There are medical professionals who do mess up, exspecially in states where there is no medical equipment readily available.
There is a reason why in former times and in third world nations, it is not just freak cases where someone is declared dead and then rises again.
There are countless of news story in the internet about it even in more developed nations in southern america, for example.

Again: A cop out is if you write yourself into a corner and then decide to not follow through with your initial plan.
Nothing about this fight tells us this is what happened. Togashi wanted the twist to happen exactly like that.
He had several years to think about these chapters and he didnt set them up, so he could, at any point, have decided to change it.
The fact that he didnt was that he believed strongly in what he wrote there instead of thinking 'oh well i dont wanna mess it up with the fans'.

I even agree that togashi could have explained it in more detail what happened, but it is by no means unbelievable that it can happen with the things which were established in the manga.
Bungee gum giving cpr is no problem at all, nen becoming stronger or reactivating after death was established too.
The only real problem is the timeframe at which hisoka had no pxygen delivered to his brain, but if we assume a favourable timefram here it does work, and there is nothing to contradict that assumption really.

There is really nothing that cannot be explained. It was meant to be something unreliable and uncommon in the hunter world which was no sure bet to pull off, so it is fine of being a bit of a stretch which needs some assumptions, but at no point does it downright contradict anything established in the manga.

Maybe, but hisoka didnt ask for much.
The thing he wanted from his nen was contracting and expanding at certain spots. That is not hell of a lot to ask, he didnt get superpowers.

I can accept that hisoka can do that because hisoka seems even more talented at nen usage than gon and killuah.

Gon is incredibly talented too, but he could only pull off what he did against pitou because of his emotional trauma.
His talent and trauma went hand in hand to create the desired effect.

the thing is: Hisoka was not traumatized. he didnt want to die but it didnt seem like he was afraid or had any strong desire to keep living (at least not stronger than the usual desire to do so).
He is just that good that he tried something he never did before and it actually worked out just fine.
A lot like he never before created limbs out of his nen, and he could just do it.

Hisoka is just incredibly good at nen usage and was that throughout the manga.
I do think that he didnt really know whether he can do it with a lot of tricks he did before he did them.[/QUOTE]
I will agree that hisoka is more polished with nen now than gon and killua

But hes also at least 7-10 years older, maybe more

He is a finished product
The other two will still grow much stronger than they currently are

I will agree that what hisoka asked the nen to do isnt that much, but its the fact that he asked it to happen after death

This one is another Panel:

http://view.thespectrum.net/series/hunter-x-hunter.html?ch=Chapter+353&page=18

IT is clearly seen that hisoka does not Change Position at all but rather says 'bungee gum activate' and it just does.
Yes, but nonetheless, all the gum does is materialize act on potential. It doesn't animate itself. If you pull a string or observe an elastic string stretched, it will return to original shape. It still didn't animate itself and it still doesn't explain how an inanimate gum can make the heart contract.

Bungee gum has no potential to contract or stretch, it acts based on potential energy.

The panel i showed you clearly shows that what you say is not correct.
The gum was applied to the head before. And hisoka left it lax until he needed it.
It contracted when he gave it the command to contract, not due to any potential energy.
It just did contract, whether by changing its property to be less expandable or due to 'flowing' back into hisokas finger is irrelevant.
Fact is, he can contract it at will without moving his limbs.

And he did not have to use more than that to do cpr.
He had his hands on his breast and let it contract heavily,
When it expanded again, his pressured breast pushed the hands back again, just to be pressured by the hands again due to bungee gum contracting again.

There is nothing in that scene bungee gum couldnt do.

He activate the effect. No where in that panel does it animate itself which is what it'd need to do in order to move Hisoka's hand. It works via potential only. All we saw contract do was activate its ability to be sticky, nothing more.

What exactly makes you think that?
And what do you mean by 'potential' here and 'animate itself'?

The gum was sticky long before, because hisoka already had to apply it to the head.
It was connected already to the head, the only thing hisoka did here is give it the ccommand to contract, and so it did.
There is no reason why it should not be able to follow that command after hisoka's death if we take nen staying behind into account.

What hisoka did to cpr himself was nothing (mechanically speaking) that he could not have done at any time with the skills he has.since a very long time.
He wouldnt even need to actually shoot the bungee gum treads here because hands had to do were already on his chest.
All his fingers and hands had to do was emitting them and then letting them contract, something hisoka does all the time in every fight we saw him in.
There was at no point in the manga or in the anime stated that he needs movement to emitt them.
He always shot the treads, he did not throw them like a lasso after his opponents.

And even if, if that is what bothers you, he could easily have applied the treads to his chest before he died and they were (very faintly) there all the time.

What exactly makes you think that?
And what do you mean by 'potential' here and 'animate itself'?
Not to do with thinking, it's fact.

Potential refers to, the coin hitting his sheathe of gum, and the gum returning the coin back shows it acts via potential. He's even used his gum on his feet to augment his footing on the ground.

Bungee gum only acts on potential, not animated, doesn't move by itself. It doesn't just stretch for the sake of it, it stretches due to a force acting on it.

The scene you're calling animated is nothing more than Hisoka activating Bungee gum and pulling it, it did nothing by itself, he had to do something. And that's pull which he explicitly said in this panel, you took it out of context.

I know that bungee gum can be stretched by other force, like it is normal for gum, but even in the panel you gave me now he explicitly says that he himself extended the aura of bungee gum from his left foot.

He can obviously freely decide how 'stretchy' the gum is.

Now, i will concentrate on explaining why it is definitely possible what he did with panels you gave me: In the upper panel where he reflects the coins he just used one hand to emit it and the other one so stretch it and he didnt even have both of the hands touching each other, but there was a little space between them.
What makes you think that, with both of his hands on his chest, he couldnt connect bungee gum to his just?
He obviously can.
And then there are little gaps between the finger/hands and his chest. Those gaps can be closed by using bungee gum really strongly to contract (which he can do without muscle movement as we saw with the heads. He can change the stretichness to 'max contract' and gets a very strong pull).
Doing so pushed the hand towards the chest. By letting the gum laxer again, the gaps will appear again.
Doing it repeatedly gives hisoka his cpr.

I'm not buying that explanation because it's simply impossible.

Bungee gum acts on forces: push and pull. The only thing except from this is its ability to stick which can pull things assuming the thing/object is generating a force that will eventually be opposed by the elasticity of the gum.

Even the panel you provided me, Hisoka connected the head which only moved towards Chrollo because he pulled it towards him while falling.

Simply put, Bungee gum can be summarized into this: there's no action without a reaction, no effect without a cause.

A heart is squeezed to pump, Bungee gum does not squeeze or expand itself or animate itself in other words. No effect from Bungee gum, without a cause.

Miraculous survival is not the same thing as resurrection. In real life, if you heard someone stopped breathing for 10 minutes but lived, nobody is going to say 'this guy was resurrected'. It'd be understood that he somehow survived for 10 minutes without breathing. Even in fictional world where resurrection is possible, almost every scene that involves encountering a guy who is thought to be dead would start with the assumption that guy miraculously survived as opposed to being outright resurrected because the former is still a far more likely explanation than the latter even when resurrection is possible.

Hisoka did not miraculously survive. It says his ability was empowered by his own death. It doesn't matter if people in HXH can routinely survive for 3 hours without oxygen, because in that case people wouldn't be declare as dead for merely going 3 hours without oxygen. Being declared dead and, more importantly, having an ability that is empowered by death, means we have passed the boundary from miraculous survival to outright defying death. His actions might be enough for a miraculous recovery, but that is nowhere near sufficient to overcome death. Even if you had an Archangel, which is far more powerful than anything Hisoka did, it cannot overcome death and would have been ineffective once that boundary is crossed.

You're completely forgetting about "nen becomes stronger after death" concept. Remember when Neferpitou was killed by Gon? Immediately following Pitou's death, her Nen took over her body and acted on its own. The time frame from Pitou's nen activation following her death wasn't that long. From this statement, we can also assume Hisoka wasn't "dead" for too long for those arguing he was "dead" for hours. Not true. For Pitou to be dead and moving is also "impossible" because a dead body cannot move. So why did it move and cut off Gon's arm? Because Pitou had a strong "DESIRE" AND "EMOTION" to protect Meruem from any potential threats so her Aura or Nen took on her desire and acted according to her will even after she died. Pitou didn't neccessarily "hated" Gon, but her strong emotional loyalty to her king was enough to activate it. Even in the past, Phinks told Gon and Killua that nen can be strengthened after death due to strong feelings. That's why Phantom troops were afraid to kill Kurapika, because they were afraid Kurapika's "hatred" would kill Chrollo while the judgement chain was still on his heart. So hatred, loyalty, desire, any strong emotion will and can be activated upon death. Therefore, the properties of nen takes on the desire of their owner. So, since Hisoka is such a sly little slippery fellow he is. He was able to exploit this loophole. And since Hisoka is such a complex, weirdo we don't even know what type of emotion he felt before he died. Maybe he expressed extreme desire of love? He did say "caress" his heart and lungs. Maybe his nen was humping his organs lol. I don't know. But we know he did "try something." Which involved his nen acting out on Hisoka's desire right before he died in which his own nen helped him with CPR before he was dead for too long. Shalrnark and Kortopi were very loyal to Chrollo so maybe their nen will get stronger after death thus making Chrollo stronger as well? Who knows. I think Hisoka is the only character that can pull this type of thing off because his nen can contract and expand. So his bungee gum doesn't need anything like potential energy or a reaction because it simply acts on its own. Just understand: [Death + Strong emotion = Nen acting on owner's desire]
