Have you watched Psycho-Pass yet? It's a new Cyberpunk show (5 episodes out of 22 have aired). Not quite as dark, but if you liked Mardock you should like Psycho-Pass. http://myanimelist.net/anime/13601/Psycho-Pass

I've heard of it yeah. I remember seeing raws for the novel AGGGGGGEEESSS ago and then quite a long time later they made it into a manga and it got serialized etcetcetc

Book --->Anime Trilogy ---> Manga

The books used to be available from VIZ, the movies are available from Sentai Filmworks, the Manga from Kodansha USA.

Did you not notice that all of my recent sigs have been for anime, or that I added a link to my anime list? I'm watching five new shows this season, and catching up on shows I missed. Funny thing, I've barely read any manga recently.

No, the manga started before the Anime films, but of course it was probably a tie-in

I had noticed since you came back from being away that they were I guess, but I didn't know what they were from really. I prefer to stay away from hype, as well as be lazy, and watch stuff after it's ended. I made an exception for Sakamichi no Apollon, but that was the first one since...I don't know when. Darker than Black maybe? Gundam 00?

Mayhaps Kaiten was approached by a monk preaching about the superiority of anime, and was brainwashed in his absence? It would explain the unorthodox personality alteration.

The manga were tie in, starting around the time they announced the movies. The movies are more loyal to the book, the manga takes more liberties with the story.

A few exceptions aside, I usually find that anime generally live up to the hype. Unlike manga, the best anime seem to find the widest online audience. There are some exceptions, but for the most part I find that the popular series really do meet expectations or better. There are certain studio's and directors I really like, so I tend to pick new series based on that, or reviews from ANN. I like watching new a little more, I prefer having three months or more to enjoy a series, rather than finishing in a week or two. Considering how many great series I have missed the last couple of years, it's either watch completed series or miss out completely.

My sig is for Chu2byou, the new KyoAni by the director of Haruhi Suzumiya. It's hilarious. If you liked Haruhi you'll like Chu2byou.

That's almost always the case with movie tie-ins. Even Evangelion's manga was pretty faithful to the story, but that only lasted so long.

Ah yeah, I heard about the one with Eighth Grader Syndrome and I recognize the name.

It seems from the reactions of others that this season has a ton of good stuff in it. Right now I'm still watching Ergo Proxy though

If you liked / loved Evangelion, you should try it. Its dark and done beautifully.
