How the mangas you know started?

Like,all of them(or a good number of them) started being a One-Shot,a Pilot chapter,or however you want to call it.

All manga start little,like a prototype title,a short sketch or idea,some can become really different from what they where,or only improve in art,i know some of them:

Rurouni Kenshin,started as a Two-shot(chapters) and was called Rurōni Kenshin Meiji Kenkaku Rōmantan I also know he had another name,but can't remember it..They even looked Waay different from now,Kenshin's scar was put there cause the Manga-ka simply didn't know what to do with him,and added that.

sanosuke looked really awesome!

Another one i know its One Piece,it was called Romance Dawn,and had three versions(one-shots),the plot before the actual manga is full of
surprises,Zoro was originally part of Buggy's crew!

Even Buggy himself was quite disturbing!

Yeah,THAT was luffy XD...don't make me show you the other strawhats...

I could not resist XD Yes,thats IS chopper XDD

Naruto is another but that didn't have soo many changes,most of them where on the plot,Naruto used to be a fox!

YEAH! motorcycles! They even had guns!!

speaking about foxes..

Bleach started as a Pilot chapter Too,like naruto,and also had a HUGE plot change,it was still about ghosts,but in a really awkward way compared to the modern series. Did you know,the first time he submitted it to Shonen Jump,they rejected the idea? But Bleach (thanks to Toriyama's "importance" in the shōnen domain,and cause he liked it) was accepted for publication a short time after.

That was Ichigo,his hair was black. O__O

Rukia was as small as a hand,and Orihime was freaking dead!
==========================================

I know more but can't recall them XP

How about you guys,do you remember how your favourite manga started as,was the name different? Or any Fun Facts to share?

Hah,all things begin small,an then they grow to be a great hit,or just a book on the closet.

I fixed the title of the thread a bit so it would be clearer. :) /mod note

Most manga in Shonen Jump get started with one-shots and then if it gets a well reception, it becomes serialized. Of course there are differences between a one-shot and a serialized series to the mangaka would have to change a few things around.

I remember reading on Wikipedia that D. Gray-man share similar concepts from its predecessor.

In Berserk pilot chapter, Guts wore an Eyepatch :amuse
Other than that he was pretty equal to the original, just that he was less dark more "normal" action. Most people considered him beeing more than 85% less cool than in actual Berserk :oh
The plot of the pilot chapter approximately followed the main plot of the first two volumes, just less refined, less dark and much shorter. It didn't really contain the important emotional moments which made the real story good at that point.

Hitman Reborn hardly changed from its original oneshot.

I enjoy Marmalade Boy, the first draft of it is radically different from what it is now. To start, all of the main characters' sex were changed. It has different endings, and
Miki and Yuu really are siblings, in the draft.
It was vehemently vetoed by the editor. I don't know how different it will be, but i am really glad the draft got revised.

In the original draft of Harlem Beat, Nishiyama-sensei originally wanted a more delinquent type street basket manga. Sawamura's name in the first draft is Kai Sawamura. He was the ringleader of the street basket gambling ring, and his personality is a lot more serious that what he is now. I like the current, sillier and more adorable Sawamura.
Yuriko Nishiyama-sensei is the type that loves to talk about the character background and the initial draft in the tankoubon omake. From her writings, she seems like a nice person. I miss her works... ;__;
