I actually like how there is less people. It make sense when you consider how low level the fights are in the area. Would you watch the newbie fight or the veterans?
I watched it for the heck of it, and I was so excited when I saw that they were finishing up the first half with the coin flipping game, but that all went down the drain when they went back to focus on Gon's training and confrontation with Hisoka. the song really helped though.
I can say that there will be ALOT to look forward to next week it seems! Heavens arena, new OP and ED's almost washes away the frightful fact that right after that weekend I have to take my PSAT
Hi, Im new here, I've been lurking for a while, and I had to make an account because I felt that this part of the recap episode wasn't being discussed enough, I thought it was amazing, the way they used the full version of Awake and blended it perfectly in with the scenes, it really was incredible. BTW Im pretty new to Hunter X Hunter, although I have read the election arc, and the beginning of the dark continent, I didn't read the chimera ant arc, or any of them really, Im just watching the anime and going with the flow, I didn't want to start reading at first because of all the hiatus', but the new anime came and I decided to watch that instead.
When they played the extended version of Just Awake, I was reminded of the instrumental version of Departure that played during the first recap episode. I suggest everyone check that scene out as it's brilliant.

I want to say I hope this anime has a few insert songs. I am always a sucker for them when they play just at the right moment. Fans of the original Dragonball, Super Robot shows like Getter Robo or Gundam would know what I'm talking about especially. Of course they work best with montage scenes like in the recap eps, we also had that really cool one at the last episode of the 1999 series.
I love insert songs as well Americandream. I think we will get them. I think in the ending of Election arc which we just seen recently in the manga is perfect for an insert song to play over it. There are a few other moments that would work well with one too.
I have been as well Netero. I'm rereading Kastro vs Hisoka right now haha. Loving it, can't wait for this to be animated!!
The narrator plays a pivotal role in a lot of major scenes (Palace Invasion comes to mind), I don't think it'd be boring, but it would definitely be something different to what we are use to seeing from shonen series.
Bah, another recap. Skipped the episode. Do we really need to be reminded in detail of recent events every 13 episodes? Surely a half a minute long recap at the beginning of the episode would be enough. Hopefully this letter/recap business will end now since Mito is mainly concerned about how Gon would fare in his exam. It might tie in well with the plot if Mito could mention the letters when Gon returns to Whale Island.
Recaps are really just there to buy a little bit of time for the studios.
Plus it can encourage new viewers by quickly allowing them to "catch up".
As for Heavens Arena.. Before we get to the awesome Kastro vs Hisoka fight
we still got to see Killua vs Zushi first. Now it's a short bout but I think it's
a pretty good one. It will be interesting to see how the animation will
compare to the 1999 version.
Also it looks like we actually get to see Killua's first fight at Heaven's Arena.
In the manga it's just skipped over. Though I'm pretty sure the fight will last what?
A millisecond?
Also I get the feeling we might see a little bit of Zushi's first fight as well!
Probably just a finishing spin kick or something as the real action will
be Killua vs Zushi.

Just want to say me and my friends love the weird radioactive mutation sound Nen made in the 1999 anime, it well was unique. I hope whatever sound effect we get is unique and at least somewhat prominent. I'm sure it won't be as out there as the old one but it is something I'm interested in, also what kinda crazy colors we may or may not get for Nen.
I for one really hope a lot of the narration is left out of the anime adaptation. If you look at most books adapted into film a lot of times internal narration or narrators are cut all together, and some of the dialogue the narrator gives us in say the invasion could be shown and doesn't have to be told. Like subtle feelings or reactions can be animated and I'm assuming probably at least 1/3-50% of the narration will be left behind or interpreted in more visual ways.
In the case of Kastro vs Hisoka that's different (as are several narration scenes during NGL), when its to explain a technique or complex series of thoughts you need to either have narration or a characters internal thoughts. Much as I love the 1999 anime, I dislike how they don't have the narrator speaking during the Hisoka room scene. It mostly works honestly, but it makes things like how Texture Surprise and Bungee gum work kinda confusing (especially Texture surprise). That's a scene where you absolutely need a narrator explaining the ability. I really can't wait to see a more true to the manga (and more importantly, less confusing!) adaptation of Heaven's Arena!
Can anyone think of other examples of situations like this where narration is handled well, or done differently (but effectively) in other anime or film adaptations? I'd like to speculate but I can't think of too many other series where I've read and watched both versions honestly.
