but yeah my point was they might finish off the zyoldic arc next week and start heavans arena the week after.

I was expecting that the arc would last 4 chaps. Now, the next episode will cover about one chapter as well, I think. And the 24th one will cover chap. 43 through chap. 44 page 10. That is the best way to finish the arc imo.
Now, about this week's episode. The worst change was the scene with Killua showing that he still believes in his friends. In the manga we're supposed to think that he had changed and doesn't want them to come. And this scene just ruins the whole idea.
Another thing is Kurapika's line: "Gon is our friend, and he wants to see his friend, it's obvious that we'd want to help him." It supposes that he doesn't see Killua as his friend. And I don't think that's right.
Training filler was too long as well. Yeah, manga version was kinda too short, but still, that doesn't mean they should prolong it that much. I thought they could open the Gate in a half of episode, and they only pushed it a little by then...
And, finally, opening the gates. They could only open them working together!? WTF!? Leorio opened it himself after just two weeks, and he even opened two gates later! Gon and Kurapika opened one door each as well. So why? What's the reasoning? It shouldn't seem that much of a trial for them! How will they explain Gon becoming so strong, without even being able to open the gate himself? The whole part was messed up =/
Sequent informing Gotoh was a nice insert tho. Btw, was he in the manga one of those Hunters who were defeated by Kanary? Don't remember huh.
With so much filler, the Canary part was too rushed
All in all, the worst episode so far (excluding the recap one). But still watchable. 7/10

My thought on this episode.
-I really hate seaquant in this version,at least in the manga ,he wasn't that annoying .He keep putting down Gon and friends through out the first half.It was so annoying.

-I honestly hated the part where all 3 of them open the gate.It was so lame.The 1999 version and the manga did a better job.They look so weak in that part. And the "we are friends so we have help each other blah blah blah..."thing is getting old .They need to stop using that.In the manga,they each open the door by themselves and Leorio even open the second gate.

-The silhouette of the Zolydck family was kinda unexpected.I couldn't help noticing a certain person next to Killua.^.^

-Canary looks a lot prettier in the version compared to the manga and the 1999 version anime.I feel she has a more girly and a younger look.

-The added part of Kikyo and canary was in a way quite good since it show more about the zoldyck.It show how obbesive and fond kikyo is of killua. Milluki voice...I HATE HIS VOICE.The first time I heard it ,I had to cover my ears.Thank god he doesn't have much a role in the future arc.=.=

-Gon's face...it needed more blood. But I love the expression of Kurapika and Leorio when they stand by gon's side.That 2 panel was beautifully done.

-Apparently ,madhouse made the source of the beam that hit Canary from the fan which I was quite suprised since I initially though it came from Kikyo eyepiece.

This episode wasn't that good.Didn't like the filler with the gate at the begining.Guess madhouse is trying to drag the Zolydck arc a bit considering that this arc is really short.

Judging by today's episode it can be assumed that Heaven's Arena and the next season in general is gonna suffer from censorship if they don't move the anime to an evening timeslot.

Was really bummed about how they changed things with Leorio. It was the only filler that bothered me because I really wanted him to open it on his own. I wonder why they bothered to change it. If they wanted to lengthen it they could have just extended the training scenes oh well .

I pretty much enjoyed the rest of the episode though. I love Canary's design in this version!! And the Zolydck family in general look epic!! Nice teaser i the pic about future arcs =D

Nope, I liked it a lot. Outside of the anime robbing Leorio of his big moment and Gon not looking as beat up as he is in the manga, everything was great. I didn't mind the training filler, though it did make Canary's screen time a little shorter as a result. The scenery and colours were great this episode. All of it helped create a really cool atmosphere (which was pretty dark)!

I did, but not as much. I'm looking forward next one mostly. See how cute Kil were?

BTW, this doesn't look smoke-ish.

I'll make new conclusion as soon as I see Nen entering into action.

Judging by today's episode it can be assumed that Heaven's Arena and the next season in general is gonna suffer from censorship if they don't move the anime to an evening timeslot.

I don't think it will suffer much. Even though the gore is toned down it's nowhere near as bad as say Hisoka's killings in the first exam.
The canary part is definitely one of the riskiest parts to animate since it shows Gon, a 12 year old kid, getting the smack beaten out of himself.
Probably the most violent fight in Heavens arena is Kastro vs Hisoka but since that is two adults fighting they can get away with more.

The episode showed that

They can show Gon a 12 year old kid beaten up and bruised (even if is toned down)
They can show Gon a 12 year old kid getting violently hit
They can show Gon a 12 year old kid bleeding (even if it is toned down)

Most of what they didn't show was

Gon while beaten and bruised wasn't as beaten and bruised in the manga.
There are no blood splatters when Gon gets hit.

Now that I think about it,considering how mysterious and isolated the Zoldyck family is ,how did the tour guide actually knew how many family members are there in the family? Alluka hasn't even left the house until Killua came and take her away.Milluki rarely leave the house.Those 2 are hardly ever seen by anyone from the outside. Did anyone of the butlers rat them out?

I don't know, but they do seem popular and widely known. They're quite open about some stuff and their personal data since they just don't care. I mean, they have a card of their job for god sake! It's only logical to think that they allow superficial information to be leaked.

So, till now I thought we were going to be more or less OK with this new adaptation. Despite the brighter colors, some censoring and a general detectable kiddies feeling to it, they stayed pretty close to the manga and didn't seriously screw up the important parts... However, ep23 had me worried. Really worried. Mostly because of that opening the gate thing that they changed... I fail to see why they had to change it in the first place, and that's what worries me.

Now, I can understand when they have to change a scene because of some depiction of excessive violence or gore (like, for example, when Hisoka threw Geretta's whole body on the ground before Gon instead of carrying only Geretta's severed head), but what reason did they have for the changes in the gate scene? What, excessive violence towards the gate by Leorio who brutally opened it without its consent? And why did they rob him of one of his very few cool moments when he was the only one who opened two gates at once? Not to mention that they screwed up the meaning behind the scene: by opening the gate on his own each of the trio demonstrated that each of them is worthy of the right to proceed farther into the mansion. Opening the gate all together makes no sense whatsoever in that context.

That was an unmotivited change and that scares the hell out of me. I don't really mind some fillers if they fit, and I can probably put up with some changes without a good reason in the other arcs (gritting my teeth, but bearing with it), but it's different with the Yorkshin arc. I treasure the Yorkshin arc way too much for them to take such careless liberties with it. One or two such unmotivited changes can very well ruin it as a whole... not to mention we'll have a lot of censoring (Hisoka vs Castro in Heaven's Arena was bloody, to say the least, and Genei Ryodan tend to spill people's blood a lot in general) on our hands as it is... and now I'm scared out of my wits here.

Oh, and I do hope there'll be a totally new OP song by the time the Yorkshin arc starts. Departure may be OK for Heaven's Arena, but absolutely unfit for Yorkshin, no matter how they may change it. We'll need a darker, more serious tune.

If you realize that Killua could open before learning Nen 4 gates (I think it was so) with Nen his force should be enough to open all gates. And as far as I remember (please someone fix me on this) He did not opened the whole gate. This is a revision, as I see it.

In a way,is true.But to know the exact number of family member in the family seem a bit farfetched.Since there was no exact confirmation by any of the Zolydck family member,there could easily be more than 10 people in the household and nobody would know. Not all the Zoldyck are active in their job.(Alluka doesn't even know how to fight let alone kill people intentionally so nobody know about her,she could pretty much be non-existent to the public)Zeno and Sliva are the 2 that are the more well-known one since people were able to recognize who they were.

I agree its not irreversible what they did, but it also shows further that this new adaptation is its own thing, and even though its closer to the manga its not the exact same thing. You have to either take it or leave it really, I accept that the 1999 series ruined a few things compared to the manga since I saw the 1999 series first (my favorite anime series) I was complaining about a few things with 2011, but I realized my complaints aren't worth much. I think its still a good series and its probably better it differentiate itself from the other adaptations in some ways. So I guess what I'm trying to say is, if I end up not liking 2011 as much as 1999 or the manga I won't watch it again (or share it with curious friends) and just tune back in for NGL and later arcs. Not the end of the world, I think for someone un familiar with either source material (1999 or manga) this show is still doing a pretty great job at telling the story quickly with gorgeous animation and likable characters. I will say I did prefer Canary fight filler over gate filler, so I was disappointed at the emphasis on the training and not on getting the audience to sympathize with a new character.

You know in the long run (to me anyway) the Testing gate isn't that important when they learn Nen literally the next arc and physical strength doesn't mean a whole heck of a lot comparatively. I always found that sort of weird, I mean it makes the Zoldyck's a big deal, and its how Gon and Killua get to the 200th floor but in hindsight it sort of feels like a useless training arc since they learn something much more useful immediately afterwards.

Yea, they do look great! anyone else notice his shirt changed some, that patter on his collar had a white undershirt to it in the manga, now its just his chest u see, interesting. I'm totally looking forward to seeing these guys in action during Yorkshin and NGL.
