Finally watched the episode and it was gorgeous. Zushi was awesome, and so was Wing. Too bad his scream didn't even compare as to how I imagined it while reading the manga (it should be loud enough to make people temporalily deaf), but that's ok for me. Can't wait to see the next episode!

What do you think it would be?

My guess: Sorta like a Chocolate Easter Bunny except it's robot shaped.
It would have a caramel center and maybe some fruit flavor like raspberry.
And it would need to be some real quality chocolate.

Also I wonder how much Kikiyo and Silva had to spend on toothpaste?

No they don't. Killua was explaining to Gon how he ended his fight and was forced to punch him hard instead of his hand chop. Never the less, Zushi got up and didn't stay down.

Great episode, It was very interesting. I really like zushi, he's a cool character. Plus this arc looks like its going to be fun. also, Ive only watched the ending once so far, and it might take some time for me to decide if i like it better than the last opening, I really liked "Just Awake", and zip not the biggest fan of screaming in songs, but it was just so great, I always looked forward to it. But I do like the new opening better than the first.

Having read many opinions from the Western side, I am wondering why the Japanese literally *hate* the new series so much.
This is a (non-exhaustive) list of what they are complaining about (from 2ch/niconico):

- Background music is not dark/serious enough
- Too colorful, atmosphere not dark enough
- Odd character design
- Killua/Gon are too short, "child like"
- Killua's/Gon's voice is too childish
- Too little blood/violence
- Illogicality - e.g. Gon only passed the Zoldyck test gate with the help of Leorio and Kurapika, yet was able to advance in the Celestial Tower with ease

And they are attributing all these to the director of the new series, Hiroshi Kōjina, whom they thought "had no sense in making the anime". To them, the old series was literally the definition of what is good.

Well, it may indeed be difficult to judge the new series fairly considering how much of an impact the old series had on fans of the older generation. However, I think we should at least give the new series a chance, considering that there is potential for it to "get serious" in the later parts.

The inaccuracy of this post and complete lies you are spewing is completely hilarious, nice try buddy The fact you did not even provide links is a dead give away that you are just a butt hurt Westerner trying to bash the new series. I do not see these posts, if you could link us to them, I'd gladly rescind my comments.

I think jumping to the conclusion that jam1 is spreading lies and propaganda about the Japanese HxH fanbase is a tad bit extreme (either that or I didn't pick up on how fake the post seemed). I do also however take that post with a huge grain of salt considering I don't know Japanese myself. I personally don't trust anyone's post until I see either an official poll or hear it from a person living in Japan currently or from a respectable anime journalist.

Either way, I wouldn't find it all that surprising if these feelings were being spread about a place like 2chan. If it's anything like 4-chan mentality or other popular American forums, then its filled with reclusive old timer 20's-30 something otaku fanboys who can't live outside of nostalgia. Though I'm not saying that nostalgia is the only reason someone might dislike the new series (just probably not to this nitpicky extend). I also assumed even if this were true it wouldn't change anything about the new series continuing its popularity since I'd assume most of the ratings for the new show are kids and teens perhaps? Factoring in also a sizeable group of older fans who read the manga. I'm just guessing here though.

I'm always really curious what other countries think of series. Like is HxH popular in any other countries outside Japan and US? Either the manga, old series both or the new one?

I wouldn't even say that it's popular in the U.S. It's pretty niche here.

Sorry if I was a little extreme in my post but I have experienced his type on other forums. I would definitely like to see these alleged posts however, I know myself and Popo speak Japanese so I'd be interested in seeing this for myself.

I've been to and from Japan since the series began, I actually work in the industry (PM me if you want more information, I'm not willing to share those details publicly as I would still like to maintain a level on anonymity in my forum use) and I can assure you the general consensus in Japan is that the new series is a success both artistically and financially. I'm sure there are those that do not like the series but Jam1's blanket statement was rather rash in saying that 'the Japanese' 'hate' it haha.

Well, here in Brazil HxH is not crazy popular like the Big 3, but it certainly has some popularity, specially since it aired on TV some years back. Was it in... 2005? I don't even remember anymore, since I actually had watched the series subbed before it aired here, haha.

I'm getting a lot of my friends to watch the new series, though. C'mon, everyone! We must fight for the Hunter cause!

Cool, I wish HxH was on tv here in the states. I've been pushing it pretty hard on my friends whenever anime is brought up along with doing fan art for it whenever I can lately. I just hope on top of all this Togashi does his part and takes fewer hiatuses as the series winds down and the anime catches up to it.

what comes out of killua's mouth/head during the ant arc can be found on shoujo/romance manga.
togashi's works are full of hoyay while his waifu's are lesyay, don't you know?

Well in Japan, Hunter x Hunter in definitely more popular than Toriko and Gintama. The Toriko anime does get better ratings, but it's largely due to being aired alongside ratings powerhouse One Piece. The manga of HxH sells much more than both Toriko and Gintama. I don't really think it's fair to compare Kenshin as it was before HxH's time and it's not really possible to compare them on a level playing field due to a large variety of circumstances.

Hunter x Hunter is definitely incredibly popular in Japan and it's been picking up popularity globally due to the new anime series. I was personally shocked by how much popularity it has gained in Australia in such a short period of time. Let's see if that popularity flourishes or disperses, will be interesting to say the least.

As I said (or corrected myself into saying), not all Japanese fans of the old series criticized the new one. But I can assure you that criticisms do exist. If it is popular by opinion polls, then that popularity probably came from the fans of the younger generation.

If you can read Japanese, you may refer to, for example:

For example, post 992 said "ヨークシンも緊張感ゼロの茶番になるんだろうな".

It translates roughly into "The (spoilers) Yorkshin arc (/spoilers) will also (like the arcs done so far) be a farce with zero anxious feelings". That, to me, is a rather extreme criticism - because of the use of the words "farce" and "zero". It seemed to me that whoever said this had (sadly) no expectations for the arcs to come.

And this brings out my point that *some* are judging the series based on what they are seeing now.

But of course, you can doubt the credibility of the 2ch forum.
