I think he propably meant it the other way around: every time HxH leaves, an important reason to buy Shounen Jump leaves with it, so they're losing sales whenever it goes on hiatus. >_>

But I think it's mostly that they want to set an example: even someone like Togashi Yoshihiro isn't exalted enough to keep slacking like this, and he has to make the choice now, finally: either finish the series on a relatively normal schedule or retire and spend the rest of his life spending the money mountain he and his wife have built over the years. Shueisha is just trying to scare him into listening to 'em again.

Yeah I suppose when you put it like that. It always takes up a spot, which could be held for a more consistent manga.
The reason they haven't cut it yet is just because it's hard to grab a hit, which HxH undoubtedly is.

But one's credit has to deplete one day; even Togashi's.
Though, compared to other series, he'll always have some extra credit. But another break like the last one really is stretching it on the verge of breaking.

Hmm....I guess the position of the suscribed paying fans will be one the magazine: If he takes another break, I quit buying the magazine, I'll just wait for the tankobon.

That is what I would do!
But then again it's speculation, so we have to see if it's true! Just hope he does not trash it like Yuyu Hakusho.

Yuu Yuu Hakusho was prematurally cancelled because Togashi-sensei got into an argument with his editor and in the end they decided to cut the planned arc short and end the series right there. That last arc was supposed to be a lot longer than that.

But that's just the sort of person Togashi is, he's not scared to sacrifice his own series in a battle with the Higher Powers of Shueisha, which is probably one of the reasons he got away with treating Hunter x Hunter the way he did for so long. Shueisha is a bit scared of him, since he's probably the only mangaka they currently employ that has the guts to use his popularity against them, normally it's the publishing companies that take the mangakas in their iron grip and have absolute power over them, and it looks like they're currently in a power struggle again~

On one side, it's probably a good thing for the mangaka side what Togashi is doing - to some degree - , but it's not good for the fans of his series that they have to live with the danger of getting caught in all that~ xD

Ohhh I didnt know that. Usually stuff like that is mentioned on wiki (makes me wonder what else he had planned..). Where did you get that info from?

And yes, its definetly good that an artist is displaying his upperhand over the publishers. That's how it always should be. Publishers are publishers for a reason.

It has been long known trough the ropes of manga, but I'm pretty sure that if you do a reasearch, you'll find something interesting!

He receives longer vacations and bigger advances than any of Shonen Jump's other mangaka, and this situation has come to be known as "Togashi-ism".

That's the thing, I did do some research and I couldnt find anything supporting what you both are claiming. Where exactly did you guys find this out from? Id like to read more into it.

If anything, Togashi should be praised. Imagine a writer or director or any other comic artist trying to pull that same shit with this publishers or superiors. The fact that he can pull it off for the noble purpose of good art/storytelling is noteworthy, so kudos to Togashi.

And what does his wife happening to be the author of Sailor Moon have to do with anything? They fell deeply in love and started a family, there's nothing wrong with that.

Yeah, the Togashi-ism is the only thing Ive really known about.

Well, erm, it means that when you combine the mountain of money that Togashi has made with Yu Yu Hakusho - among others - with the mountain of money that Naoko got from Sailor Moon... You'd come to the conclusion that they erm... don't really need to work anymore for the rest of their lives...

And since Togashi got a kid somewhere around the time Hunter x Hunter was nearing it's seventh or so volume, if I remember correctly, his family takes a lot of his time not spent on drawing manga. >_>

Also, he refuses to employ assistants, so often missed deadlines in the past, since he has to do everything himself~

And hmmm... that which I said used to be on his wikipedia page, but apparently got editted out, but it should be somewhere else on the net~ (sorry though, no time to look for it right now~)

Do we know if Togashi is finally working seriously on HxH or if a new break is planned ?
We knew there would be only 10 chapters last fall even before the first new chapter was released. What about now ?

I think he as thinking about Gon and Ikarugo. He had to let Ikarugo alone to go with Gon, and things doesn't look too good to Ikarugo.
