The way I see it is that mangakas are people too. They get sick, they undergo surgery, they take vacations. And I wonder if it's because some of these authors do take breaks that we see their series in top ten lists.

Yeah, HxH hiatuses are bad, and I'm lucky I didn't have to deal with the ones during the ant arc (I really do feel for you guys). One of the favorites on my list, X/1999, is incomplete and on an indefinite hiatus. Luckily the TV series that had an ending didn't suck.

Though, my point was more if this has something to do with the current generation or is this a ongoing thing from the beginning (like, in the time of Astro Boy and such).

True masterpiece manga are even if with long hiatus still had a lot of followers that are still waiting that is why manga like Berserk, Hxh, Vagabond and many more are like this and some like Slam Dunk that you still want more even if it ended already .. In the current Jump line up only One Piece had the capability to do a long hiatus and comeback Naruto/Bleach and almost all if they hiatus for 2-5 months they would lose half or more of their readers/fans.

The opposite happens with me. When I drop a manga I really like (usually because life got in the way, and when I get back around I can't remember what chapter I left off), they suddenly get popular and they even get their own animes. (Kuroshitsuji, 07 Ghost, TWGOK, Pandora Hearts). But I'm so out of the loop that I can't even update myself with a chapter or episode. I have to read/watch everything again to understand what's going on, and I usually am not in the mood for that unless I'm really bored.

So HxH is kind of a breather for me. I mean, I don't like long hiatuses, but I can understand that mangakas have their own lives too. And I'm not one to check on manga updates every week/month, so I can deal with the absence.

I hope nobody hates me for this, but after reading volume 28 and the end of the battle between Netero and Meruem, this is what I have to say....

Netero, was A D!CK!!

In the Hunter Exam, he was awesome and I liked him. But in this battle, he was a douche toward Meruem! He kept belittling him and acted like he was the best shot in the universe and didn't take anything Meruem said seriously! Meruem complaments him and says "You're good old man, I acknowledge that." And what does Netero say in responce? "EFF off you stupid brat!! I'm awesome and I know that!!"

Yes, he was supposed to kill Meruem to save the humanity, but I didn't like his attitude in the fight.

Meryem isn't talking from a standpoint of 'Wow, you're pretty good old guy. I respect that'. It's more like 'Well, you humans are pitiful but you're a little less pitiful than the others.' I actually respect Netero during this fight because you can see he's wavering between taking out the can of raid on Meryem and letting him go. He's got a job to do, and despite hurting an innocent girl he knows he's gotta do it.

Yes, exactly. I was ambivalent towards this scene because I was torn between wanting Netero to let him go, and wanting them to fight.

So yesterday I had to take care of some university business when all of a sudden I see an uppeclassman with an appearance really similar to that of Leorio. He was even wearing the shades and suit (traditional Portuguese university suit actually, but close enough). Needless to say he oozed style.
