I have seen many interviews with Togashi. There is a famous incident in which he was hospitalised near the end of YYH run. Shueisha like to deny it but it did indeed happen, Togashi confirmed in a Japanese interview. Look it up. Bakuman actually has based a story arc upon Togashi struggles.

I think it might be Togashi in those panels....cause the guy is asking them to please give him a break on Yu-yu-hakusho. To please let him stop. So the guy in the last panel is probably his editor at the time? Dunno. Either way this is kinda creepy. Did they really force him to keep going despite having that face mask indicative of a cold or something on his face? I know Sorachi (Gintama) has said he's had to work despite having fevers and whatnot, but man. Makes me appreciate manga more.

I've actually read that article. It seems Shokakukan has a reputation for being really bad with author-editor relationships, while Shuiesha has the reputation of being a bunch of slavedrivers. Oddly enough I haven't heard anything explicitly bad about Kodansha, but I'm sure there are things if someone goes to look. In any case at least Togashi has his hiatuses, as sorta unfair as they seem to be to us and other mangaka that work weekly.

Pretty sure Togashi was never going to make another manga again for Shueisha unless he had that kind of schedule. They know Togashi = $$$$ so of course that would do anything he wants. Especially considering the shit he went through with YYH. They want to keep a lot of these poor working conditions under wraps.
