One thing I never quite figured out is that Togashi has no assistants and yet it sure looks like we'd definitely see some quality-of-life improvements at the very least if he had a few assistants. I don't think his style is particularly hard to emulate (one of the fake pictures during Election Arc fooled pretty much everyone) and people certainly aren't getting HXH because of its awesome art!

Togashi does not use assistants as he does not want anyone else to influence his work.

WOW.. I downloaded volume 32... he REALLY didn't redraw ANYTHING! Not the Gon and Ging reunion, not the Kite chapter... like... wtf was he doing for 9 months?!

Togashi does not use assistants as he does not want anyone else to influence his work.

If he's the kind of guy who gets influenced by others we wouldn't have this hiatus to begin with. All the rabid fans threatening to burn his house down ought to be influence enough. So no I don't think he has to worry about being influenced by others even if he has assistants, unless influence means 'absolutely nobody else can work on my stuff'.

I'm not too fussed about Togashi not redrawing as I didn't mind the messy art on the Kite chapter it had a dreamy like effect somehow, but I did expect him to redraw it. Oh well. Lets look at what Togashi had to do in his time off:

- Create 2 brand new chapters totalling in at about 60 pages all up
- Provide assistance with the film
- Continue his consultant duties for the anime
- Fix volumes art (Ging chapter is actually cleaned up a bit, Kite one is not at all though)
- Take care of his baby girl

Well to be fair, that's not the first time a chapter didn't get redrawn. Chapter 53 was rough sketches and not as refined as 52 or 54. (The scans don't show it properly. You have to see it on paper to note the difference). Although Kite's chapter was really messed up and I was looking forward for a detailed look of the new Kite. But dammit, why didn't he do it?!

Though maybe we can hope for two different openings during the chimera ants incident. The second one should have Meruem's "You can smile again" instead of Gon and Co. xD

Yo HxH vol 32 is the first HxH vol to get under 4 stars in the Japanese amazon ;__; lol but no, can anyone tell me why they gave it negative reviews? Anyone who understands Japanese ofc. I'm betting its because or the art.

At this rate, there is no excuse for his action.It's his job as a mangaka.This is utterly unethical.The art is as important as the story.He had nine months to fix the art and he failed to do so.I'm not expecting him to draw fantastically, just make the art more presentable. And beside there was only 4 chapters that had this kind of low quality drawing.It shouldn't be that hard to fix.

Whether people can put up with something like hiatus is on a sliding scale. It's not induction where if X days of hiatus is okay then clearly X+1 days is also okay so therefore any amount of hiatus is okay. There are only 11 reviews so it can easily be skewed one way or another. Some of the reviews indeed talks about the lack of redrawing the draft sketches. In the end fan response is almost like crowd-sourcing, you might not be able to quantiatively figure out what's the difference between 6 and 7 months of hiatus but if you ask everyone to feedback you'll definitely see that people hate the 7 month hiatus slightly more than the 6 month hiatus. Fans don't like to be taken advantage of, especially when you're talking about things like manga where in theory it's easy to get substitues.

One of the 1 star reviews says Togashi is an embarassment to his readers and other mangakas on weekly serials. It might be extreme but it shouldn't be hard to see why someone might feel this way, and the longer HXH is on hiatus you can be sure more people are going to start feeling this way. One of the major manga sites I go to has HXH filled with spam ads in their HXH section, and I can assure you that didn't happen accidentally given the rest of the site is spam free. I think whoever mods that board is literally not allowed to remove the spam links because whoever owns the board is tired of Togashi. All these are isolated incidences, sure, but they do add up showing even diehard fans have a limited capacity for laziness.

Where did you hear this? If that's true its mind boggling, but at the same time its kind of weird... Why do the backgrounds look better than the actual characters? lol

Given that Togashi has no assistants and yet clearly we'd have considerable quality-of-life improvements if he had assistants, I'm sure he must feel that his work are his only and nobody else can touch them. That's not an unusual sentiment though usually you'd have to back that up with some semblance of hard work.

I don't get HXH for the art but there's a lot of rough sketches in HXH that honestly cannot possibly be any worse. I don't care if he has to call up random guys on the Internet and say "Hey you, want to fill in the scribbles I had for part XYZ? Thanks!" and it'd probably be an improvement.
