His idea being that, at that stage, Benjamin's guardian spirit beast will have fused with Tserri, and Kurapika will team up with Halkenburg to help him land his arrow on him, effectively making this body the new king of kakin, but under Halk's control.

Benjamins guardian spirit beast needs a blood relative. If they dont have a common parent they are not.
Also his goal of assisting kakin for all eternity might also be flawed by that restriction, because the queens children are allowed to succeed the throne which might lead to him not having any blood relatives after the next hypothetical succession war

When he mentioned v38, I got the impression it was a mistake on his part; I think he was actually referring to the next volume, which was going to have a lot of corrections.

It wouldn't make sense for him to make a correction to v38, which had already been released years ago.

Do you think he’s making a lot of mistakes? I’ve seen people commenting on this and saying he needs to take a break. I believe every volume has errors that he corrects before the official release, and I think people are bringing this up because he talks about the flaws while the chapters are still being released.

And does Tserriednich have to be brain dead for his body to be permanently taken over by Halkenburg?
From what I understand, Halkenburg's ability has a time limit until the body's owner wakes up. Am I wrong?

I believe Halk's power would make their souls coexist in Tserri's body, and the time limit refers to him losing control to the original soul once the body wakes from sleep.

Togashi saying that Volume 38 containing mistakes comes as a bit of a surprise. To me, the volume with the most flagrant mistakes so far is Volume 39, though. I say "flagrant" because these mistakes actually mess with the placement of events in the timeline. There are at least three occurrences that can be seen as mistakes:

• One is a confirmed error that was corrected in the official release: Zhang Lei's coin number mismatch between the text and the illustration.
• One can potentially be interpreted as a retcon (the statement that Zhang Lei's coins appear at 1PM every day)
• The third one is also about the timeline, and depending on what information we get from future chapters, can either be considered a mild stretch/inconsistency or an actual mistake

I have mentioned these points in the past and I'd love to discuss them in more detail, because I think the issue goes beyond simply pointing out continuity errors.

The main issue for me is that the mistakes are gradually becoming more plot and timeline related. When you're reading something as deliberately complicated as the Succession War, a big part of the fun is trying to piece together all the information Togashi has given us and use it to solve the mysteries within the plot. But when some of that information turns out to be the result of an error, it creates a certain distrust: you start wondering whether an apparent inconsistency is actually meaningful, or whether Togashi simply forgot something.

I'm not saying this ruins the story or anything like that, mistakes can happen and it is what it is, and Togashi is already doing more than his best. But what about the editor or assistants? surely they could at least help him look for errors before submitting the pages? this is what I don't understand.
