Re: Gon vs. Kurapica
Also on Kurapica after reading through his fight with Ubo more a couple more of thoughts:
1) Emperor time as its name implies is a mode that can only be used for a certain amount of time - when fighting it appears that the mode's time limit is shorter but when simply used to restrain a target for a long period of time - e.g. Kuroro - then it may last longer.
2) Kurapica pretty much ditched using dousing chain to fight Ubo as it a) hardly ever hit him and b) did not exactly do much damage. It seems dousing chain's purpose in a fight was to merely fool the Ryodan into guessing what type of nen ability he had so that he would focus on the chain thinking it was a reinforced one. Only to their surprise to find out its materialization that could be hidden with "In". So dousing chain was more of a distraction to chain jail. What is interesting is that Kurapica only really did damage to Ubo using punches and kicks with reinforcement.
3) Emperor time sounds good on paper but in practice its not successfully pulled off. Simply put its hard enough to be adept at one type of nen let alone four others. Even with super talented whiz kids like Gon and Killua being taught by a great master, Biske, there is still so much about their nen they have to discover using. More importantly given that Kurapica has 4 other nen to use his focus wasn't to develop them all but rather to create an unbreakable chain. Hence, Kurapica only has two nen types he uses when fighting with Emperor time. Materialization, in the form of dousing chain which is used to distract so as to use chain jail (course chain jail is a combination of many types of nen but right now this is moot since he can't use it on Gon). Reinforcement, the real bulk of Kurapica's offense with Ubo was close range combat with punches and kicks - which was the only way to really hurt him.
4) Kurapica's use of reinforcement is vastly different from Ubo and Gon's own use. Kurapica's reinforcement doesn't explode with a seemingly vast amount of energy when Gon and Ubo get serious. His reinforcement nen just remains the same as when he uses other types. I can only assume that this may be that he doesn't have such a vast reservoir of energy or it could be the more "proper" usage of reinforcement that Kurapica lacks.
Altogether this means that if Gon were to fight Kurapica it would end up more as a fight between reinforcement users. Kurapica's dousing chain really does lack fire power to harm Gon badly and it was nothing more than a distraction about using chain jail - which he can't use on Gon anyways. Kurapica may have the ability to heal but he can't particularly keep the match going on for too long - and that is the beauty of chain jail as he's not concentrated on beating the enemy to a pulp but ensnaring them with his chain. Given that it would be a fight against reinforcement users I would hand this match to Gon as he has a lot of energy to keep fighting for a long time - even if Kurapica can heal - and take a lot of damage. While Kurapica hasn't developed reinforcement the way Gon and Ubo did plus he can only stay in emperor time for X amount of time he'd most likely be exhausted out of Emperor time before he could beat Gon - it is doubtful that he'd just be able to OHKO the boy.
I would say Ubo's big bang at the moment is stronger than Gon's rock. More importantly unlike Gon's rock there appears to be no charging required so its much faster to fire off.rock should be more powerful then ubos big bang punch by now, heck even moreau pissed his pants when gon loaded up his rock![]()
