I don't think yaoi or yuri necessarily equate to being a sin to read, it is far too generalized. What matters in a context is the depiction or portrayal and even then this varies significantly because you have to understand we're not all following one religion -- and each one clearly has its own rules and norms. I think the question is too generalized.

But as a practicing roman catholic (there are other denominations) and with some knowledge on basic theology (I took Theology 101-103) again I would just emphasize its a matter of portrayal, since not all depictions or portrayal immediately equate to being offensive or a sinful. If its tastefully done and with dignity there isn't any problem really.

However, I am certain there are draconian and puritanical views out there, just look at Apple, but clearly not everybody subscribes to such views or denominations. So simply put if you want a catch all answer... Provided you don't subscribe to the more intolerant sects or denominations there is no rule of thumb answer, you're better off just following the ratings guide if you want to play it safe.

No. In fact, I recommend yaoi for anyone for the simple reason you get a better feel for Japan's culture. Yaoi does more than just elaborate on sexual relationships between men, it elaborates on male bonding and how men interact with each other in everyday life. Furthermore, you get a better feel for what the Japanese are actually thinking but reluctant to say aloud because of (the fear of) stigma.

If this is directed toward Religious reasons, I would consider this as not a sin, but it depends if you're a true-religious that takes everything and every word seriously. But no, it's not a sin in general. It's just a certain interest. I mean, I know a lot of religious people but they still read Yaoi / Yuri; it's not a sin in their bible. So it depends on the religion / bible that was taught.

No. Even if it was I'd still read it.

Not at all. It's not a sin to read something fictional.

Well, a lot of people have been argumenting and debating whether liking or reading yaoi is a sin. ... Okay, so at least a few of my friends. I, myself, have been wondering about this for a while as well. I'm not really into it, though - I prefer het pairings rather than yaoi or yuri. But I have been reading a few yaoi fanfictions up until now, albeit some of them really didn't make sense and are just too... OOC.

Some said that it's not a sin, some said it's terrible, and some said it really doesn't matter since we're now living in a world of sins. XD

It's obvious enough to see that some people are against yaoi/yuri, but I just wanna know - is it a sin for reading or liking it? (Reason can be religious or non-religious; it doesn't matter.)

P.S. If there was a thread like this, please delete this one.
I‘d assume it is since watching porn is also a sin

Wow I'm baffled how non Christians and atheists are trying to answer the question. However, the definition of a sin is not whether something is morally good or bad. The Presbyterian Christian definition is if it is something that is causing you to turn away from god. For example if you are reading because you are genuinely enjoying it then it's fine. However, if you are putting yaoi before god, masterbating to it, and fantasizing about being in a gay relationship, then I would say it is. My recommendation is to just not read it because the definition of yaoi is the SEXUAL relationship between men. So its kinda impossible to read it without seeing it in a sexual way and fantasizing about it.
