I actually thought the timeskip was a pretty creative way of telling the story, as well as trying to figure out the mystery behind what happened during that time. However, we really still don't have any answers of what happened in those 3 years. After all that went down are we just supposed to expect there was a kind of peace during that time?
Anyway, that minor gripe aside, we had a lot of "Status Unknown" characters as a result of the final arc of the original Tokyo Ghoul. It makes sense with Kaneki's memory loss that we would be confused about a lot.
However, as we have found out about some of the characters (Takizawa and Amon), Ishida keeps randomly adding these ambiguous "deaths" where we really have no clue what's going on, for what reason? As some ploy to get us to keep on reading just to see if the life/death status of 1 of 10 characters will be alive?
Just recently we have:
Shirazu (most likely dead, but where's his corpse)
Shachi
Eto
Tatara
No real reason to drag on any of these character's fates. No Kaneki memory loss or anything. It's not like the stories are being recalled from someone's vague memories. Ishida is just arbitrarily showing just enough of these scenes to make you wonder what will happen to the characters.
And this is on top of Hide, Koma, Irimi, and maybe a few others that I forgot about who are still left over and not explained.
When will enough be enough with this writing tactic? It's very distracting to the story, and annoying too.
