Recently, while re-reading the entire series, I came up with a crazy and wild reasoning for Gantz deploying the Hunter's mid-mission thousands of miles away.
Fellow MangaHelper GeorgeMarvin has an entire thread devoted to Nishi, and this is an extension of sorts.
What I mean to say is, the cause for the Italy mission IS Nishi's impending doom.
Gantz shows quite a bit of respect for Nishi (Nishi-kun), as opposed to others: Kurono (Bitch), Sakata (Dumbass), and Kishimoto (Titz).
Nishi, in ch. 289 was about to die again, and Gantz seized this opportunity to not only save one of his valued Gantzers, but to also complete one last, insane mission.
There's probably a shit-ton of holes in this theory, and it's also 3AM here, but feel free to discuss and pick apart my weak musings.
