Not really. Sure, it takes a lot of magic power, but it's not nearly close to maximum potential. And it's magic power consumed is proportional to the number of enemies and power of enemies it's cast on.
Makarov used law against Jose and didn't appear tired at all.
Laxus got tired only because he intended to use it on all of Magnolia.

Come on dude, are do really saying that Grand Chariot has bigger hype than Altairis?
Jellal used Grand Chariot when he was casual with Natsu.
Jellal used Altaris when he was much more serious and pissed off, and wanted to kill. Erza was convinced that the spell would kill Natsu or her.
Jellal was going to use Abyss Break as the last resort, it was clearly the strongest spell he was about to use in TOH. It's hype is similar to the hype of Law, most time of Phantom Lord arc was involved in stopping the spell.

IMO:
Grand Chariot and spells he used on Acno (don't remember them) are equivalent of roar - a mid tier spell
Altairis is equivalent of secret arts - a high tier spell
Abyss Break, Sema and Self Destruction are equivalents of Fire Dragon King's purgatory and brilliant flames - top tier spells

Not comparing the power of spells, just putting relative tiers of spells for Jellal and Natsu
No i have GC above Altaris because he decided to never use it again. Idc about hype, last time I checked ToH was like 40 arcs ago so whatever was hyped back then surely lost it's hype by now. Lots of have changed.

Yes,Law consumes MP the more enemies they use it on, if Laxus went around using it all the time, he would exhaust himself, that's why he doesn't use it.

It might've been his strongest spell back then, but from what weve seen, it ain't anymore. GC and Sema are all above it.

Like I said, he's been in bloodlust mode before but has never resorted to using it again, that clearly tells us something

It's not just hype, we have feats backing it (at least for Altaris). It actually managed to kill someone lol. And Erza believed that it could kill her or Natsu; the implication here is similar to August warning Ajeel about Laxus' nuke.
Jellal's current GC that he used against Neinhart and Acno is the same as that he used against Natsu. It's literally the same spell, what changed is his powers. If GC scales, obviously other spells scale as well.

My point here is that law used on a single target doesn't consume too much magic power. So why doesn't Laxus use it when he's fighting solo? Answer is obvious, it's not because other spells are stronger, but because Hiro doesn't make him use it.

My point is that the other spells scale as well, we have no reason to believe otherwise.
If Abyss Break cast with x784 Jellal magic power is >>> GC cast with x784 Jellal magic power; then Abyss Break cast with x792 Jellal magic power will be >>> GC cast with x792 Jellal magic power. They're literally the same spells, the only difference is the strength of the person using it.

Why doesn't he use other spells? Cause Neinhart went down by a single GC, so he didn't need other spells. Also cause Hiro keeps making him GC it lol. Hiro keeps making Mira use Satan Soul, does that mean Satan Soul > Sitri? Of course not. Cause it's the same spell, if x791 Sitri > x791 Satan Soul, x792 Sitri will be > x792 Satan Soul.
Against Acno, he didn't use Sema. So does that mean GC > Sema? Clearly not.
Also, Altaris, Sema and Abyss Break requires relatively high cast time. That could also be a reason.

Law can take a lot of cast time, in a 1v1, the enemy wont just stand there. Yes Mavis did it relatively fast but that doesn't mean Laxus could. If he tried to use it against Wahl, he would've been taken out right away. It's like Iced Shell, despite it being a suicide spell, it takes a long time to cast, it's really easy to avoid it.

Sema takes longer time than GC so it's obviously gonna be his go-to. Acnologia is a whole different scenario, he used GC to push him back as he knows magic doesn't work on him, using Sema would be useless since that's a knockout attack and he can't knock out Acnologia.

You keep saying the same thing over and over with no substance. If you are trying to argue that his x784 spells are still relevant today then that's on you. Altaris killed someone who took it head on, Simon didn't even try to get around it.

You're the same guy who doesn't believe in hype but now trying to justify the hype for a featless attack? Lmao

You saying Abyss Break x792 is the most headcanon thing I've ever seen. .

The GC he used against Natsu isn't the same thing now wtf, it's much much stronger. Is the DF Natsu used against Jella the same he used against Zeref? Absolutely not. The reason as to why LFD has been neglected by Natsu is because FDK is stronger, yes he used LFD from time to time but he has stronger attacks so he uses those instead. Gajeel has ISD so there would be no reason to use regular attacks of his.

What even is this debate? People are trying to scale x784 to present day

Rogue and Sting as separate entities make it easier for Jellal to take one out of the game and essentially make it impossible for Sabertooth to even leave a dent on him.

While I do agree that rough silk is probably superior to Kyria's roar, it's not to the point that it would heavily damage Jellal given what it could already do to Erza and what Kyria could do to Natsu with a regular slash.

I know you're trying to hype rough silk but bringing him up isn't doing your argument any favours.

That's great and all but what makes you think Larcade is durable enough that he would take Kyria's roar and be relatively uninjured without even a single cut similar to Jellal? His best feat was stopping Kagura's sword with two of his fingers, which for what it's worth is an impressive attack, but it's not even close to what Kyria's roar should be capable of doing to even the likes of Natsu and Erza. This, at the very least, puts Jellal's durability above theirs.

Jellal wasn't even damaged by Neinhart's attack, he just drowned, that's why he was knocked out. He was literally up and running as soon as Kagura gave him a CPR.

If anything, the fact that he reacted (to something Kagura couldn't even perceive) and ran to Kagura to block it is quite an impressive feat.
When he saved Kagura I'd wander for awhile, why he didn't use metor when saving her

He needs time to cast it, maybe thats why

I don't take it at face value, but I do consider hype when feats don't contradict or when feats don't exist.

I don't take Spriggan hype ('12 strongest characters in the series') seriously, cause feats clearly contradict.

I considered Zeref, by default, at least tier above August in the beginning of the arc. Cause that's the default hype of the 'leader'. But later changed my mind when feats contradicted it

I consider August's hype of Laxus' nuke as credible to an extend. Maybe it won't kill Ajeel, but it would at least gravely injure him. I take the hype seriously because feats don't contradict it.

Yes, feats >> hype/statements. But I take hype/statements seriously either in absence of feats or when feats don't contradict. When feats contradict, of course it take feats.

Why do I take Abyss Break hype seriously? Cause no feats disprove it. Moreover, the fact that the spell HAD to fail both times for the 'good guys' in the arcs to win says it all.
How is it head-canon? The hype of the spell is provided by the manga itself.

Of course GC used against Neinhart is much stronger than that used against Natsu, cause it scales with user lmao.
Dragon Force is an entirely different subject, it scales the user based on how much 'dragonized' the user gets. The DF Natsu used in the movie may be the strongest DF we've seen. Grand Chariot is a spell. Abyss Break is a spell. Altaris is a spell. Huge difference from DF, because DF is a mode has different stages to it.

What even is this debate? People are trying to scale x784 to present day
Cause spells remain same. How is it hard to understand? They're literally the same spell, the only difference is the strength of the user.
It's the same as scaling Rough Silk from x791 to current. I find that credible as well. If x791 Rough silk was strong enough to take down an Erza tier character in x791, then that scales to current times as well, provided the relative powers between twin Dragons and Erza remained the same.

Well, isn't it the same with Altaris and Abyss Break too? Required high cast time and they're finishing moves.

You're not getting my point, take the hype for a spell used 10 years ago lmao go ahead. It doesn't scale to right now because it was never used. It's as if you can't understand the fact that it's featless. That's my point, you keep writing paragraphs with no substance, I'm not buying the hype for a spell that was never used.

His strongest spells are GC and Sema.

You're getting my point either. I'm repeating them cause it's true. They are literally the same spells. I'm not using hype, just using simple logical scaling. The only place where I used 'hype' was in arguing that x784 Abyss Break >> x784 GC
If we go by your logic, Laxus's Roar and Jaw are stronger than Law, since he never used law again. The argument of law using too much magic power is invalid for single targets, the argument that law takes cast time is valid for Altaris and Abyss Break. See how this plays out?

If I may, what is your opinion on this?

Does a character not using his top tier spells of the past currently, while still using the mid tier spells of the past currently; make the latter stronger than the former at present?
Context here is comparing the spell power of Abyss Break, Altaris and Grand Chariot spells of Jellal at present.

obviously, every spell that is used by current characters are stronger than the pre skip versions.

100YQ FL > Battle for Fairy Tail FL

FL > Jaw, Roar

Alvarez Jellal spells > ToH Jellal spells

it pretty much depends on where you rate Abyss Break and Altaris compared to GC.

IMO Sema > AB > Altaris >= GC

No there are feats for Law, there aren't any for Jellal spells

Also Law takes time. Law we can scale because weve seen it's capability but Abyss break we haven't. It's not the same thing

Theres no point to this debate, if you're trying to scale featless attacks to present day then go ahead

Abyss Break >>> Sema > Altaris >>> GC

Also, I dont get why almost everyone says that GC is his strongest (or second) spell. I mean he spams it like casual panches, the less impressive spell that I know.

The only problem is that we don’t know how powerful abyss break is he never cast it to see what it can do therefore it’s featless.

And cuz of that people above talked about Altaris which killed Simon and should have killed Erza\Natsu, not Abyss Break. It was just another spell btw

You all compared Altaris and GC, not AB. Altaris has feats. So your point about AB featless is irrelevant.
AB is just another spell, thats all.

I don't know how Abyss Break scales to Sema. But from hype in both arcs it was to be used, IMO it's a high end spell. Even back in x784, it was hyped to destroy Magnolia (or was it half of Magnolia, don't really remember) and a small island sized tower.
Context tells us that it's far superior to any spell Jellal used prior in TOH. The fact that it HAD to fail both times for our 'good guys' to win in the arcs also says something.

This is my opinion regarding relative strength of spells:
- Grand Chariot and spells he used on Acno (don't remember them) are equivalent of roar - a mid tier spell
-Altaris is equivalent of secret arts - a high tier spell
- Abyss Break, Sema and Self Destruction are equivalents of Fire Dragon King's purgatory and brilliant flames - top tier spells

Not comparing the power of spells, just putting relative tiers of spells for Jellal and Natsu

Omg finally somebody understands
Nobody denies that my dude. But from statements/hype, we have an idea of how strong it is, even when cast by x784 level characters. Yes, feats >>>> hype, but I'm willing to take hype in absence of feats or when feats don't contradict

We are in x793, whatever was hyped back then has surely lost it's hype now. The spell is irrelevant now

I was debating Abyss Break. I don't know why @Tirl even bothered to @me

@grey matter i get that but the problem is that whats the effects does it have? all we have to go by is hype. which to me i dont really rely on alot. feats>hype if the hype doesnt contradicts then i might accept it
