A friend of mine is currently translating a manga that uses it quite a lot and he's not very experienced with it.

Does anyone have any tips? Maybe some helpful links or words of advice?

I'm by no means an expert, but these are the biggest things about Kansai dialect that stand out in my mind:

da = ya (so dakara=yakara, etc.)
dame/ikenai = akan (standard expression of exasperation)
hontou = honma
chigau = chau (easy to confuse with chau/chimau)
negative verb ending = hen (so ikimahen instead of ikimasen, or ikahen instead of ikanai)
san honorific = han
Sentencing ending "no da" = nen

Also, replace iru/aru with oru, so shiteiru becomes shitoru and kiteiru becomes kiyoru, etc.

That's nowhere near all the differences, but that's the stuff that generally confuses me the most :)

Also, this page and even the Wikipedia page have helped me out a bunch.

I made a dialogue using the words that mote listed. Have fun translating.

Windows are broken.

An old man:「おまえはええこやねんから、悪気があったわけやないわなぁ。」

A boy: 「ぼくとちゃうって。」

An old Lady, talking to the old man: 「あんたはん、ほんまそんなんゆーてもあきまへんわ。もっときつう言わな。」

* 悪気:わるぎ
.............
A question to mote - What is "chimau" ? I do not understand what you mean by "easy to confuse with chau/chimau."

More Examples of Kansai Dialect:
In Kansai Dialect, between 2 girls:
A:「なあちょっとー、このジュース着色料入れすぎやと思わへん?これ飲んだら舌まっかいけになってしもたわ。」
B:「そんなん飲んだらあかんわ。絶対、体に悪いし。」
A:「せやけどノド乾いててんもん、しゃーないやん。やっぱ、こんだけ歩いたらしんどいわ。」

In more standard colloquial:
A:「ねえ、このジュース着色料入れすぎだと思わない?これ飲んだら舌が真っ赤になっちゃった。」
B:「そんなの飲んじゃダメよ。絶対、体に悪いって。」
A:「でもノド乾いてたんだから、仕方ないでしょ。やっぱり、これだけ歩いたら疲れるわね。」

In English;
Listen, don't you think this drink has too much food coloring? My tongue got all red after drinking.
You shouldn't drink stuff like that. It must be bad for your body/health.
But I couldn't help it. I was so thirsty. I got exhausted by walking this much.

着色料/ちゃくしょくりょう
入れ/いれ
舌/した
真っ赤/まっか
飲んだ/のんだ
絶対/ぜったい
体/からだ
悪い/わるい
乾いて/かわいて
仕方/しかた
疲れる/つかれる

When you search Kansai dialect reference online, you should also search "Osaka dialect" and "Kyoto dialect." They are the major ones. They are often a bit different.

Standard - している
Osaka - してはる
Kyoto - したはる
(Kobe - しとう, しとん .... You probably do not see this in manga often.)

はる is a common suffix, and is a polite form in Osaka but is a standard and polite form in Kyoto.

Colloquial form of "-te shimau"? Like as in 忘れちまった or 忘れちゃった.

When someone speaking in Kansai dialect says "chau" I mistake it for a verb ending sometimes.

OK, now I know what you mean. Thx for adding an example. Since chimau is rather a male language, it was not in my everyday vocabularies.
.....................................................

A couple of Qs&As for those who want to kill some time:

Q1 - A eats a hamburger at マック. B eats at マクド. Who is from Kansai?

Q2 - What dialect does Gin Ichimaru in Bleach speak?
A1 - B is from Kansai. People in Kanto and Kansai call the same fast food restaurant differently.
A2 - Kyoto dialect.

A is my wife, born and raised in Osaka; B is myself, born and raised in the US. I've tried to correct my wife before, but she plays the "native Osakan card".

If your wife was born and raised in Osaka, then she would call Big M マクド(B) instead of マック(A).

You can google マクド and マック and you will see my standard answer anywhere. It is for sure odd to me that Osaka-jin would say so, but there is always an exception. OK, I talk'll to her lol. 「Nihongaeriさんの奥さん、旦那さんが大阪生まれの大阪育ちのだとおっしゃってるんですが、マクドナルドのお店のことをマックって呼んでられるんですか?商品名はマックシェークとか、マックを使いますが、普通関西ではお店を呼ぶ時はマクドですよね。理由は家内に聞いてくれとおっしゃっていたので、一応奥様宛に書き込みしました。では失礼。御機嫌よう。」

BTW, are you (Nihongaeri-san) from Kansai? If both of you are from kansai, then your comment about "Correct"ing your wife makes sense.

I Would appreciate it if other people could continue to answer The Archangel's question. Thanks.
