The Island of fate : Minion
The title of the chapter is the Island of fate, Minion. This could imply that the fate of the characters involved is going to be sealed on that island . At any rate this should be one of the turning points of what ended up being one of the greatest flashbacks in the history of One Piece.
Jinbei meets with the locals.
The chapter starts with the continuation of Jinbei’s cover story. At the port town, Jinbei learns from the locals that the ruins came out of nowhere and landed on the town, and that the sea monsters destroyed their boats as well. They also lost their offerings in the process. The explanation ends on this note, without getting into details about the nature of these offerings. It could be that they are intended for the Tenryuubitos, but not only. The Yonko can also ask for a tribute, as it was seen with Big Mom on Fishman Island.
Doflamingo reveals that he might have found a cure.
Last chapter we saw Corazon receive a call from Doflamingo after 6 months, and in this chapter we finally get to know the reason behind this call. DD starts by inquiring about whether they found a cure for Law for his amber lead sickness. Corazon , as the mute he’s supposed to be, answers in Morse by the negative. DD then proceeds into telling Corazon that they might have found a way to cure young Law, and it turns out that the cure is the Ope Ope no mi. DD reveals that some pirate found the fruit and is willing to exchange it with the marines for a high price. DD intends to snatch the fruit, and give it to Corazon whom he says he trusts.
DD wants to believe that his brother is no traitor.
The calls end on that note, and the scene switches to DD who seems to suspect that Corazon might be a traitor. The executives also find it weird that the Marines were able to predict DD’s movements so accurately in the past and yet for the past 6 months they weren't able to do so, which happens to be the same period Corazon was away.Unlike what many of us have predicted, it wasn't because of some intel from Vergo, who has infiltrated the marines on DD’s orders, but rather a deduction they all came to.Doflamingo , despite his doubts, wants to believe that Corazon is not a traitor, which might show that he cares for his brother, the only real family he has left.
Corazon's reaction to the news
Corazon is naturally overjoyed with the news, Law will be finally cured from his amber lead sickness. He explains to Law how the Ope Ope works, that it is a fruit that allows you to modify the structure of the human body. Because of that it is rumored to be able to cure all sickness. Law is highly skeptical about that, but Corazon explains that it is not a trick or magic, rather it requires a high degree of medical knowledge. Because of that, he reveals that he has no intention of eating the fruit himself, as he can’t anyway since he’s already a DF user, a fact DD ignores ,and it would only cause him to die if he were to eat two DFs. Instead he’s going to give it to Law, who will then be able to operate on himself, since he has enough medical knowledge. But deep down Corazon knows the real reason behind Doflamingo’s decision to give him the fruit, he knows that DD is already suspecting him of being a traitor, then the only possible reason he might want him to have the fruit is to sacrifice him in order to gain immortality thanks to the Ope Ope’s ability. Because of that, Corazon took the decision of not going back to the family, and he’s willing to cross DD as well as the Marines, in order to get the fruit.
Sengoku chokes on his drink when he learns the news from Corazon.
Corazon calls Sengoku,to share the latest info on DD.But before he could say anything they are disrupted by Garp who is as always more interested in eating Senbei, a popular Japanese snack with Kuzan. Corazon then asks Sengoku about the deal . At this Sengoku is so surprised that he chokes on his tea, and inquires how he came to know about it. The latter reveals that DD intends to steal the fruit, for his personal use. Sengoku is alarmed, and wonders how DD was able to get this information to begin with, since this is a very secret intel as only a few know about it. Little did he know that the Marines have already been infiltrated by Vergo, who has been leaking information to DD and his family. Corazon wants to know all the details including the pirates movements to which Sengoku agrees and reveals the location and the moment the exchange will take place. He sees this a good opportunity to apprehend DD and his family. Corazon notes that the exchange will happen in a North Blue’s island called Rubeck, in three weeks. He is supposed to meet with Doffy and the others 3 days beforehand on Swallow Island.
Law is suddenly taken ill.
The call ends, and Corazon informs Law that they are leaving, seeing that he hasn’t answered he suddenly realizes that Law had collapsed. His condition has worsened, he wasn’t supposed to be this ill at this stage, could there have been a mistake in Law’s estimation about how much time he has left? They both sail to their destination, but even the elements are against them, a huge storm breaks in the sea, making it more difficult for them to reach their fated destination.
Law still wonders if Corazon is a marine, he in turn continues to deny it although all evidence points towards that. It could be that he doesn’t want Law to refuse his help, considering that he hates the WG since they knew about amber lead, and yet they let everyone in Flevance die, for the sake of making profit.
Possibly Drake on the left, Dorry could also be short for Drake.
They both finally arrive to Minion Island where the pirates holding the Ope Ope are supposed to be hiding. It is revealed that the name of their leader is Diez Barrels, a marine turned pirate. The name Diez is very reminiscent, and could be tied to a notorious supernova of the current era called X Drake, usually read Diez Drake(Diez means 10 in Spanish, and it could also be written X). The latter could even be present in this chapter, although his face wasn’t entirely shown. The possible relation between those two pirates could be that Diez Barrels is a relative of X Drake, there’s even a physical resemblance between the two men. He seems to be bossed around by Barrels, having to bring him his drink, while the young boy’s face is covered with what looks like blood.
The Ope Ope no mi, a heartshaped devil fruit.
Barrels seems to be more interested in the money that he could get from exchanging the fruit with the Marines than the powers of the Ope Ope no mi, a fruit sought after by all doctors. The fruit itself is shaped as a heart, which follows the heart theme of Law’s crew(Heart pirates).
Corazon's goofy way of explaining the powers of his fruit.
Corazon proceeds into explaining the powers of his Nagi Nagi fruit to Law, in a rather comical way, which makes Corazon one of the most hilarious characters of the series imo. His sound cancellation ability makes it perfect for espionage, but young Law isn’t impressed even one bit.
With a kick in Barrels face, Corazon is able to snatch the fruit.
In the night, Corazon makes his move on the pirate’s hideout, and thanks to his devil fruit he was able to cause enough confusion to make it to where the fruit is. With one kick in Barrels face, he’s able to snatch the fruit and escape through the window.
He’s ecstatic as he makes his way back to where Law is. But his clumsiness is never too far, and he trips and falls at the feet of the pirates who are looking for him. Unable to use his Nagi Nagi to create an element of surprise, he comes face to face with the pirates. The chapter ends will Law hearing gunshots at the distance.
Corazon's clumsiness strikes again.
What will be Corazon’s fate, will he be able to make it back to Law, with the fruit not compromised? This certainly does not bode well for him and Law. Also I doubt that DD is just going to sit and wait for 3 days before he gets his hands on the fruit, especially if we consider the fact that he already suspects Corazon, and with the Marines trying to stop him, I can see him changing his plans and already be there, even on Minion.I guess we’ll find out next chapter.
This was a really interesting chapter.I think many of us have predicted that the cure will be the Ope Ope no mi, and that Law or Corazon would have to eat it. What I didn't expect is that DD was able to come out to the conclusion that Corazon betrayed him, without Vergo being involved. Also one of the most interesting moments in this chapter for me was the mention of Diez Barrels and his possible relation to X Drake.Knowing how Oda works, and how he likes to give details that are explained much later in the story, like with the dwarves, I am sure this will be explained further in future arcs. Maybe even next arc, if Kaidou and Drake are involved. Lastly as much as I like Corazon as a character, I can't see him getting out of the island alive, he will surely be beaten badly by those pirates, and if DD finds out about his betrayal, he might even kill him himself.Law on the other hand is almost guaranteed to stay alive, and that he will eat the fruit, but he might still be in a difficult situation after this.
