I think this is pretty straightforward. Gildarts wins mid-high diff, closer to mid.
I'm scaling based on portrayal, assuming Gildarts grows enough to preserve the portrayal.

If we go purely by feats, Gildarts is stuck in x792, in which case, Laxus might win.

But I go based on portrayal in the absence of feats, so voting Gildarts.

I got Gildarts, mid-high diff. He's great in cqc, plus, his Crash hax is very useful against caster type mages, he can just break apart all of Laxus's spells just like he did to Serena.

There's a good chance this would happen because I don't think Hiro would want either character to look bad

Like everyone said , Gildarts wins. He was still considered the strongest in the guild at the beginning of 100YQ , so timeskip doesn't matter.
