Hakune high-diffs due to hax, I think she could probably outlast Laxus, Gray was able to counter her by reasons, but Laxus has no magic to combine, so, either he beats her down with brute force or Hakune wins via her hax as she renders Laxus's magic useless, if she keeps her distance and goes for long-ranged attacks and psychological warfare, she could win.

Unfortunately, with the current feats that we have, I just don't see how Laxus will be able to counter Hakune's MP freezing ability.

The manga already showed that Hakune indeed has the capability to freeze "any magic power that cannot even be seen". The only known counter to this ability is to somehow halve her freezing spirit art, which we have no proof of Laxus being able to do.

Considering that Hakune can use this technique almost instantaneously, I don't think that Laxus will even get a chance to reach his full power.

While Laxus has a formidable track record in terms of performance, I will be voting for Hakune - who I believe is the deserving winner of this round.

Hakune wins. She can cancel out his magic power. Hakune is broken against mages that can't counter her ability.

The way to counter Hakune's magic is to simply change the property of your magic power. Assuming red lightning is different enough from regular lightning, Laxus has a shot here.

Gray oneshot Hakune, the only reason she survived against him was because she kept freezing his lesser spells before they could hit her. All it takes is a nuke and Laxus wins. Hakune's hax isn't particularly fast, she's also not particularly quick to use it, Laxus doesn't really need to counter her, he just oneshots right out the gate.

That is not how it worked. Gray used his demon powers to halve the effect of the spell which is how he negated. His demon powers is a separate power from his magic power. Laxus has shown nothing to say he has something beyond magic power nor that he has the ability to mix those two powers together. It was already stated that Curse Power, Magic Power and Spiritual powers could be directly frozen by her.

Also you guys are putting Laxus up against an unknown enemy, there is no way he could know how the fundamentals of her powers in a random encounter.

Anyway, we don't even know if dual elements can counter Hakune. It seemed like something that specifically happened because of demon magic. I mean, the effect was 'halved', indicating Gray could use only his 'demon' powers, while his regular magic was still completely frozen.

Dual elements is still regular magic, two elements, two different magic, yet still regular magic. Red lightning is even less distinct, it's same element but different property. Would this achieve the same as Gray's DeS mode?

Laxus wins, he's much stronger than Hakune. Red Lightning has enough plot to solo haxes against magic. That aside he can probably win with punches.
