Misc Attempt Leveling Tank Raws

I'm trying my hand at scanning the tanks I have and I was wondering what kind of leveling would be best for them for future cleaning. I was using this method to preclean the scans, and I liked the end result because of the smoothness and how much easier it is to level afterwards. Then again, I read about how the diffuse filter makes things blurry and results in a loss of detail and shouldn't be used on tank raws so I'm not sure anymore. :/

Anyway, to compare (2nd one has the diffuse filter on it):

don't worry about the blurrines, as lons as you follow the tutorial on senbonzakura it will llok good
but since is a tank raw you can level the black a bit more and the greys won't be ruinded.

Don't waste your time using a filter to preclean a tank raw. It doesn't make any sense, it's taking a a technique used for raws full of dust and noise due to it being printed on lq paper and applying it to a good HQ raw.

Too many groups now denoise or add some sort of filter or blur to Tank raws and that's just fail. It does reduce the detail.

What you need to do is level the black of the first image more, then whatever is left by way of dirt or noise you can brush out or burn/dodge out.

I agree.

Tank raws don't need a filter to preclean it or anything. The most I ever do is surface blur once and that's it. If you denoise it looks way too blurry.

Good quality tank raws don't need filters.
