His entire body doesn't get larger, only the body part does. If he does make his torso larger, it'll be harder for Jinbei to do damage. But, can Jinbei push out the air and make Luffy normal size again? if so, that's an advantage gone. If Luffy makes his arm or leg bigger, his torso will still be the same size and still susceptible to being hit.

Why should I assume Luffy used haki if the standard/weaker application is invisible? Luffy has seen the extents of Jinbe's power firsthand numerous times in the first half, so I can't comprehend why he wouldn't use armament hardening to combat him unless he wasn't really fighting seriously in the first place. Luffy intentions were to leave to kick Hody's ass, so I believe he was merely using some of his strength to attempt to pass him. At any rate, Luffy should have known Jinbe would of been able to tank his attacks whether he used the invisible application or not considering the fact he knows knowledgeable about Jinbe's remarkable strength and endurance as a fighter. I suspect Luffy believed his standard second gear attacks without armament hardening would of been enough to move Jnibe out of the way, but he underestimated Jinbe's abilities a little. As a result, I am forced to believe Luffy was not fighting very seriously. Also, Luffy did not state he was utilizing the invisible application of haki, and Jinbe did not make any note of him using haki. Characters have generally able to tell if their opponent is using haki, because they'll usually make note of their enemies attacks becoming much stronger and harder in the their mind or out loud if the invisible application was indeed applied. That being said, I believe making assumptions for this particular circumstance is inadvisable.

We have to consider that the invisible application of haki is the single most offensively generic and easily used tool in his arsenal. Using haki requires neither effort nor time. He might have mastered his gear second and uses it easily but it is still a technique which works specifically by quickly draining his energy (which is perhaps he has learned how to limit it to specific body parts). It would be more than baffling that he would take a fight to the gear 2 stage and not use haki, specially if his enemy is someone like jinbe who at the time luffy deemed dangerous enough to actually open the fight with gear 2. Luffy's can't be argued to not have been fighting seriously if he opened the fight with gear 2, it doesn't add up.

Still doesn't change the fact that Jinbei stands a better chance against Luffy. If Fishman karate can bypass Color of Armament haki without a problem, then Luffy's most likely gonna lose the fight. I don't think he went all out on Jinbei, but his basic attacks barely do anything to Jinbei, it seems.

I'll concede to your last point about his basic attacks not doing much to harm Jinbei because he was able to block Jet Stamp. If he hadn't of been quick enough to block a head on attack, then he would of sustained a lot more damage. However, I still might give Luffy the edge in this fight. I was looking back at that chapter, and I'm under the impression Jinbei will most likely have a hard time keeping up with Luffy's second gear speed. We haven't seen Jinbei move anywhere as fast as steroid pumped Hody in battle, and Hody was arguably able to move just as fast as Luffy during their final fight on the ship. I acknowledge Jinbei was able to block a straight on second gear attack he saw coming, while sustaining minimal damage to his arms. Nonetheless, if Luffy started side blitzing Jinbei from different directions with his fast speed, then Jinbei would've had a difficult time defending against all of his attacks especially if Luffy is attacking him relentlessly. Luffy may a be reckless fighter, but he's smart and tactical at times. I doubt Luffy would continue to attack Jinbei straight on if his opponent commenced using techniques that would manipulate the water in his body for the rest of the fight. Jinbei may have an incredibly durable body, but he would eventually get worn out having to keep up with Luffy's speed attacks if he stays in second gear.

I don't think jinbe has even the slightest disadvantage in terms of speed. There are two instances at which speed has been relevant here so far. When jinbe first easily blocked luffy's gear second and when they both hit each other. In neither of those scenarios has jinbe ever been at a disadvantage. Perhaps the case can be made that speed isn't jinbe's thing but that would actually put luffy at a extremely severe disadvantage because so far jinbe has kept up pretty well with luffy's speed which is a bit of a thing for gear 2. If speed, a potential weakness for jinbe, has not been an issue then odds are that once the fight comes down to things which are "jinbe's thing" luffy will be at an even greater disadvantage to put it mildly.

Difference is that Luffy did not went around with full gear second against Jinbe. If he would use it on his legs and punch Jinbe from different directions I do think that chances of Jinbe barely keeping up or not keeping up after some time are quite big. Its big of a strech when you basically say that pre TS Luffy was catched by Jinbe and then after time skip ONE gear second attack - stamp - was blocked.

So you stating that speed is not an issue is your interpretation of what you seen till now, not manga fact so to say.
It seems like you are straining this a bit in favor for Jinbe.

You are all missing the point M3J Is trying to make. You concentrate on the fact that Luffy was not serious, yet you forget Jinbei was on the same boat yet took him down rather easily.

The conditions in this fight favour Jinbei more so than they do Luffy, If they both are serious it would be a good fight but I give an edge to Jinbei. A body of water as has been mentioned is practically infinate ammo for Jinbei and we have seen him keep up with Luffy, which takes speed out of the equation.

In this point and time its hard to gauge Luffys strength seeing as he was handicapped as he tried to destroy Noah and when he was fighting Hodi. We got a better idea of how strong his Haki is against Chinjao so maybe after this arc we could revisit this thread. However, just because Jinbei accepted to join the SH does not mean he is inferior to Luffy, there are more reasons to follow someone aside from strength or power.

Luffy didn't use his speed effectively in the that brief fight because he attacked Jinbei head on in both instances in a very predictable manner. Jinbi saw Jet Stamp coming because luffy jumped up and stretched his legs, so all Jinbe had to do was simply raise his arms in time to block the technique. Afterward, Luffy just ran slowly (I say slowly because we've seen Luffy move much faster than what was displayed in that chapter, and Sanji had enough time to jump in between them plus Robin) straight at Jinbe with his fist raised. What do both instances have in common? Luffy's attacks were very predictable, and he did not use his superior speed to his advantage. I believe that notion is pretty much indisputable. In addition, you can't claim Jinbe wouldn't have some type of speed disadvantage, because Luffy didn't even bother using his quickness to gain the upper hand in his short brawl with Jinbe. Look at the chapter again and examine how Luffy proceeded to attack Jinbe in both instances. You should come to my conclusion. Anyway, that matter aside, Jinbe has not once shown any considerable feat during battle that would suggest he could move anywhere as fast as Luffy's top second gear speed. As a result, Jinbe would be at a considerable disadvantage if Luffy started blitzing him from different directions, instead of engaging him in a head on manner where Jinbe could easily read his attacks like he did in their short fight.

"Jinbe's thing"? Okay, explain to me which aspects make Jinbe superior to Luffy at the moment. Is it speed? Luffy's undoubtedly faster. Physical strength? Debatable. Intelligence? Debatable. Fighting instincts? Debatable. Endurance? Maybe Jinbe. Let's discuss everything.

how long can Luffy keep up using second gear? Even if Jinbei isn't as fast, he's tough - didn't he tackle Akainu when Akainu was trying to finish off Ace and/or Luffy? I don't remember Jinbei getting damaged from the tackle. As mentioned, both men were holding back, so the kick isn't enough to determine who'd win. I doubt Jinbei would have been hurt that badly if he could take the kick without a problem.

If Jinbei can keep up with Luffy's second gear speed, then he can predict where Luffy will strike and use Fishman karate, and he can use a wide range to increase his chances of hitting Luffy.

I would argue that moment is indication enough that jinbe would be able to handle luffy's speed. There is no reason for us to think jinbe is in any form or context slow, he has not once been displayed that way. Jinbe looks slow because he is 15 feet tall and a perfect circle but appearances alone don't justify him being slow in the least. As far as we know jinbe is perfectly capable of handling luffy's speed and perhaps more.... I am going to make the same point I have made in other threads regarding speed. The difference between two people has to be enormous for it to be a decisive factor.... I mean, kizaru moves supposedly at the speed of light and yet he has been countered at every turn by relevant people. Kuma supposedly teleports (I think he is simply reflecting himself with his paw powers though, it merely looks like he is teleporting) and yet he even had trouble with ivankov.... How does it make sense that luffy has any degree of speed advantage over jinbe? Even if he did, it wouldn't be a decisive factor in the battle. Luffy did use a pretty straightforward attack but why does that take anything away from what we saw? most of luffy's attacks are straighforward, its only a few notable exceptions that aren't (say, snakeshot). Jinbe hasn't shown he is capable of keeping up with gear 2? He easily blocked a gear two attack at first and subsequently tied in a fistfight with luffy. As far as we have seen jinbe is at least a match for luffy in that department, there is no reason for us to think luffy is "undoubtedly" faster than jinbe.

I would argue the whole fishman karate, physical strength and range make up for jinbe's comfort zone when fighting. He is a fishman, to begin with they are supposed to be naturally more powerful than humans. Luffy does have range thanks to his gomu fruit but in turn at least jinbe does not have to stick his hand in for range, he simply throws water for devastating effects. And he does not even need huge amounts of water for his more powerful water techniques, he was capable of an ougi or something against that giant fishman. As far as endurance go things are IMO a tad murky if they are facing each other. A good deal of luffy's endurance comes from the fact that he is rubber, he is highly resistant to attacks. In turn that same endurance we see against others is essentially worthless against jinbe because as we saw fishman karate allows him to hurt luffy as he would any other living creature.

in this scenario, i'd go with jinbie, for me they're both around the same level(maybe jinbie is a bit stronger) so the location of the fight is the factor.

I don't think location entirely matters. Although Jinbei is stronger with water around, which Luffy loses his strength in, Jinbei still has ways to attack Luffy without getting close, and he can hurt Luffy. I'm not entirely sure if Jinbei knows haki, but if he does, that's even a bigger aid in beating LUffy. Right now, I see Jinbei as winning all and any fight against Luffy at this point, and I would like to challenge that majority who voted for Luffy only voted for him out of bias.
