In the manga Saint Seiya, there's a character who moves his hands faster at supersonic speed, creating a vacuum that protects him from any attack

Lunarian abilities work in a similar manner, creating a hot vacuum around their bodies that is powerful like a jet engine

Once they enter in attack mode, a Lunarian will focus the vacuum on their backs, increasing their speed

But if this is true, then a Lunarian may have trouble with daily activities such as holding fragile objects if they don't turn off this ability

My personal theory is that Lunarians can either have the fire "outside" their body which forms a force field like aura around them, or have the fire "inside" their body enhancing their physical prowess.

When flames are "outside" their body, it the fire field surround their entire body, and heightens their defences. This field even includes their skin, which explains why Zoro's shishisonson cut King's face, but we see fire go ham around the "wound" and King is as good as new.
An issue with however is that it doesn't explain how King can explode himself (which is internal damage) at the size of a mountain level AOE, but be perfectly fine afterwards.

Lunarians can also "absorb" the fire into their body. This means, whatever energy that was acting as a force field or defensive mechanism, is now fueling their body itself.
This explains why King became extremely fast in this mode, where he moved so fast that he "disappeared" from Zoro's eyes. It probably also makes them physically stronger as well.

We will soon have four little chibinarians test subjects give us a little insight on speed mode.

Defense mode seems to be getting explored a bit more right now than it was in the King fight (and, until explicitly shown or explained otherwise, I'm taking it simply as some mystical "infinite" hardness/durability), with everyone, from Luffy to even Nami, testing their limits.

Right now we have little shichibukai who are clearly well below their original, adult templates (unless anyone here believes current Zoro can just push Mihawk around and get him straight on with some random shishi sonson that would have murdered the Seraphim were it not a lunarian). As far as I could see we have still not seen any of these Seraphims go speed mode even for a moment, so as soon as we do we'll probably get some info about it, either in the form of insight from our heroes battling them (including CP0 here) or from any Vegapunk that worked in their creation (including York here).

We'll also see if they go from sponge-damage fodders to worthy fighters or just to speedy fodders. We may also learn why King switched modes like a noob against Zoro, and if speed mode affects any stat other than just speed.

Wonderful theory. That explains everything and that would also work if Advanced COC could bypass vacuum fire defense.

Dunno about ACoC

Unlike Kaido, which you hit his skin, there would be another layer

Tho it may be just a matter of going "deep enough", like Kaido put it
