Who is that guy? Where did he come from? What does he do? What the crap is the point of his character? Why does he have a swirly face? What has he done with his life besides drop a ring and get leg-viced by DeiDei?
Seriously, talk about a wasted character. Any thoughts? Is he really just a pointless fill-in for Akatsuki because Sasori had to die?
ADDED TOPIC: Who the hell are the other Akatsuki?
Those freakin' shadows in the caves at the end of Part 1; they drive me off the wall. I can tell the spiky haired one standing in the middle is the boss, and that's enough for me on him for now. Then the one low to the ground was Sasori, the one hanging from the cave ceiling was Dei, the one with the sword was Kurusame, the one with the plain looking head was itachi, and the one with the big goofy sharp head was Zetsu from a side view. But who is that big dude? And the other guy in front of him? And who is the other dude standing nearby the boss? I heard somewhere that one of the not-yet-introduced Akatsuki is a woman, but that's all I know.
Therein I still encounter the odd soul who insists we don't yet know if Tobi is Uchiha Madara. After He said he was. After Pain said he was. After one of the chapter covers said he was. After Itachi assured Sasuke Madara was alive.
However, despite all that, the most definitive piece of evidence, to me, may be found on the summary pages of volume 41, wherein we see "Tobi" with the caption "Uchiha Madara."

Even if you can't read kana, you can tell the first three characters on Sasuke's name, う・ち・は・(Uchiha) match the same three characters on Tobi's name.
So, the summary, written by Kishi and/or his editor for people who are new to Naruto, explains that the character is Uchiha Madara.
It doesn't get more official than this, guys. Whether or not you choose to believe it, is up to you.
