To me, him pointing out the first post was vanilla claim as if he thought it wasn't very believable, felt a bit off (or that's how I felt it came out at least). Then after Sam also claimed vanilla, he thought it might be a good idea to claim that as well before more people do so too to be more believable for saying so relatively early. Also it's relatively safe claim for mafia too.
