Mafia Rules​

Game Instructions

Players will be secretly assigned roles. One group will play the "Mafia"; the other group will play the "Townies". The Townies will not know who other Townies or Mafia members are. However the Mafia members will know who their fellow Mafia members are.

During the "day" phase, all of the players debate the identities of the Mafia members and at the end each person will vote to eliminate a suspect. This is carried out in the "game thread". In the game's "night" phase the Mafia will privately discuss who they should kill. They will then send this person’s name to the host, as well as other actions. Play will then continue until all of the Mafia have been eliminated, or until the Mafia reaches the same number as Townies.

A typical game will start with a minimum of 7 players, divided into 5 Townies and 2 Mafia members. The members that will be Mafia and Townies will be chosen through a random list generator. There the participating players' names will be put in and after the randomisation the Mafia roles will go to the names at the top of the list. This is to avoid butthurt and favouritism accusations. :'[

Lastly, the numbers of Mafia members depends on the number of participants!

Game Phases

PHASE 1: DAY
This is where you discuss/argue about who is and isn't mafia. As soon as the Day Phase starts, you are allowed to vote. The Day Phase will take place strictly inside the "game" thread. Any discussions regarding the Day Phase outside the thread will be dealt with severely.

The length of a Day Phase is set by the host, usually starting at ~24 hours and getting shorter the less players remain alive.

VOTE KILL [user]
This will be the manner in which you vote. Make sure it is clearly displayed in your post though bold font.
You will be only allowed 1 vote change per phase. So use your vote wisely.



PHASE 2: NIGHT
The host closes the game thread during the Night Phases.
There should be no discussion about the game during the Night Phase, regardless of the player being still in the game or already out.

During the Night Phase, the Mafia members will collaborate and choose who they want to kill. They will not do this in the thread, but via PMs with each other or other alternative communication channels approved by the host, such as PiratePad EtherPad.

At the beginning of the game the Mafia members will be informed of the other members' roles and identities. They must PM the host telling them their choice for the night's murder and the murderer from their team. There can only be one murder in the Night Phase, therefore the Mafia members must come to an agreement.

If the Mafia don't send in their night kill before the Night Phase ends, then their action will not be performed. The Mafia can also send in their night actions during the previous Day Phase, if they think they will not be online during the coming Night Phase.

The length of a Night Phase is set by the host, usually ~12 hours.

ACTIVITY RULES

• Be active in every Day Phase and post at least three times. It's a Minor Violation if you don't do that and will result in Penalty Vote(s)/Hostkill and ban from future games (Hall of Shame). If you are going to miss out a period of time due to real life events make sure to inform the host, who is going to judge each situation individually and decide whether or not taking the player out of the game is necessary.
• Place at least one vote every Day Phase. It's a Minor Violation if you forget to place a vote and will result in Penalty Vote(s)/Hostkill and ban from future games (Hall of Shame).
• Don't post more than 100 times per Day Phase. This is to reduce spam and the volume of posts per game. Nobody has time to go through hundreds of one liner posts with the same content over and over again (Imperium Copyright Rule). If you hit the volume restriction, it's a Minor Violation. You will get a Penality Vote per 10 additional posts you make.
• No talking during Night Phases, except for some roles which are explicitly allowed and encouraged to. The Night Phases are only to send in night actions. The scale of punishment for players who are caught discussing game content in the night may vary from Minor Violation to instant Hostkill, depending on the seriousness of the comment and/or warnings given before.
• Dead people can't talk. So don't post once your character is dead; do not help others once you are dead. You can, however, lurk the thread. If you post regardlessly, you will be banned from future games (Hall of Shame).

OUTER THREAD RULES

• Absolutely DO NOT discuss the game outside of the game thread (unless you are Mafia members discussing it with your teammates through PMs/EtherPad). This is so that people do not reveal their roles and ruin the game. Players violating this rule will be instantly Hostkilled and banned from future games (Hall of Shame).
• Do not directly comment on the current game, once you are dead. This is so you don't influence the players that are still playing. Violators of this rule will be banned from future games (Hall of Shame).

OTHER GAME RULES

• You are not allowed to post any screenshots, PMs or anything similar that can reveal your role, or the role of others, nor fake host PMs. If you do, you will be Hostkilled and banned from future games (Hall of Shame).
• You are not allowed to pretend being a Daytime Vigilante, Badass Cowboy, or other roles that have Day Commands. It's a Minor Violation if you do that regardlessly.
• You are not allowed to ignore directions sent in to you by the host, for example a mandatory vote change by the Politician. It's a Minor Violation if you fail to respond accordingly.
• You are not allowed to majorly edit the content of your posts, nor delete any of your own or someone else's posts without the Host's approval. If you do, you may get a Minor Violation punishment or be Hostkilled immediately and banned from future games (Hall of Shame).

RULE BREAKING, PUNISHMENT & HALL OF SHAME

Minor Violations are "small rules violations", which do not result in a Hostkill instantly, but are sanctioned with Penalty Votes first. For the first Minor Violation you get 1 Penalty Vote, for the second you get 3 Penalty Votes and the third gets you Hostkilled. Three Minor Violations of any kind are a Major Violation and will lead to a Hostkill.

If you disobey the rules above that are resulting with you being Hostkilled and/or banned from future games, you will get registered in the Hall of Shame.

• One Major Violation bans you from the upcoming game.
• A second Major Violation of the same kind will ban you from the next three games.
• A third Major Violation and you are out from all upcoming games.

No amnesty or prescription until further notice.

MH Specific Hosting Regulations

DAY PHASES & VOTINGS

Each active player has to vote during a day phase. Each player has the chance to change his vote once.

A day phase can be ended earlier, if and only if one player has collected more than a half+1 of the second votes ("locked votes") of all players and each player has voted at least once (Absolute Majority Voting).

If by the end of the the regular time of the day phase two or more players have the same amount of votes, the second votes ("locked votes") are decisive. The player with the most locked votes is being lynched.

If one or more players have the same amount of votes and locked votes, each player is getting the possibility to change his vote one more time. The regular day phase is being extended for the means of further discussions.

If the voting result is the same by the end of the extended day phase, both players are being lynched.



NIGHT PHASES & ACTIONS

During the night phase each player that has a role with a night action may send it in to the host via PM.

The player may or may not make use of his action. If the player misses the deadline and does not submit his action within the given time, it is seen as not used action. It is possible, however, to submit it before the start of the night, if the player already knows he has no time to do it later.

The night actions are listed in Priority groups. The higher the priority ranking, the more likely it is that the night action is being executed successfully. First actions to be performed are those from P1, then P2 and ending with P3.

If two night action roles from the same priority group target the same player at night a coin flip will decide which night action is executed first.

Mechanics

Titan Powers

General Mechanic Rules

​

Blind auctions will take place every night for all available titan powers. When auctioning, you can only bid on ONE titan power and the minimum will be set to 7 MPs for every titan except for the Founding Titan whose minimum will be set at 14 MPs.

Each titan can only be bestowed to two different shifters through out the entire game. Once both shifters die, the power titan disappears. Two players cannot have the same titan power at the same time.

A shifter cannot seek for another titan power.

Upon death, a shifter’s titan power will return to path and will be available for the living players if it's the first shifter that died.

Upon a shifter’s death, its titan power will be showed alongside their role.

An announcement saying ‘’The earth has rumbled last night’’ will be showed at the beginning of day phases if a titan player has been used the night before (with the exception for the War Hammer Titan).

Titans and their actions (active) cannot be seen in normal investigation results

Merit Points

​

Merit points are the currency used to ‘’purchase’’ the titan powers and the investigation actions. There will be three different ways for the warriors to earn MPs during the game.

They cannot be given to another player. It is unique to each player.

Determination

Vote locking confers the player 3 MPs.

Attention

Heart reacting this post before posting your second post on this thread will grant you two MPs. This is a gift that will never happen again. Rewarding players that pay attention to the rules is only natural after all.

Cooperation

For each 5 personal posts, with a maximum of 40 posts per day, warriors will be accorded 1 MP, for a maximum of 8 MPs daily. In case the player posts more than 40 times in one day phase, there will be no consequences, but no MP will be earned past that point.

Titan Powers

Armored Titan
The Armored Titan has the ability to become bulletproof for a night of its choice. The shifter can use its normal ability the same night. (No priority, 1 use)

Same interactions as the bulletproof role.

Female Titan
The Female Titan has the ability to enhance the shifter’s original action by boosting it to priority 0 on a night of her choice. The shifter has to use her original ability the same night. (Priority 0, 1 use)

Jaw Titan
The Jaw Titan has the ability to evade, hide, from any killing action on a night of its choice. The shifter can use its normal ability on the same night. (Priority 2, 1 use)

Colossal Titan
The Colossal Titan has the ability to protect himself from any other action on a night of its choice. If the shifter gets targeted by killing actions, all players with a killing action involved, except for the shifter, would die. If the shifter gets targeted by non-killing actions, all players with a non-killing action involved, except for the shifter, would lose their role and become crippled. The shifter would then lose its active role if he has any. The shifter cannot use its normal ability the same night. (No Priority, 1 use)
Crippling
Mafia players would lose their role if active and become unskilled (50% chance of killing)
Ex. A mafia detective would become unskilled mafia.

Third Party players would lose their role and become unskilled (50% chance of killing) even if their original role did not allow the player to kill
Ex. Santa Claus would become unskilled third party

Town players would lose their role and become Townie.
Ex. A prostitute would become Townie.

Secondary roles are not affected by the Colossal Titan’s power.

Cart Titan
The Cart Titan has the ability to save a target of its choice during a night he chooses. The Cart Titan can also use its ability twice instead of once. The shifter cannot use its normal ability the same nights. (Priority 2, 2 uses)
The Cart Titan cannot use his ability twice on the same night. It must be on two different nights.

In case the user’s normal role is passive, its ability is not negated. A bulletproof would still remain a bulletproof while using the Cart Titan’s power. A detective would not be able to investigate the same night as the Cart Titan’s power. ​

Same interactions as a sane doctor.​

Beast Titan
The Beast Titan has the ability to duel any player of its choice during a day phase of its choice. (No priority, 1 use)

Same interactions as the cowboy​

War Hammer Titan
The War Hammer Titan has an immunity against investigative roles. (No priority, passive)
A detective role would get the result that it would normally get for town. **Naïve and paranoid would get their normal results. Spies would get no action. Spirit Medium would also get no result. There is no interaction between the War Hammer Titan and the Mortician/Investigator.

The War Hammer’s power only takes effect once the user is bestowed by it. Any action before that would show up in spies and spirit mediums’ results.​

It is considered to be a passive titan power.​

Attack Titan
The Attack Titan has the ability to enhance the shifter’s original action by making it occur the following night in spite of any other roles (read interaction with passives below) or the shifter’s death. (Priority 0, 1 use)
The shifter cannot use his normal role the night of its enhancing. The enhanced action will take place the following night. However, the following night, the user will be able to use its normal action too if he’s active and not a one-time role.

For example, using the Attack Titan’s ability during Night 1 would mean sacrificing a night action, but the following night, the shifter will have two nights actions, one from the power, and its normal one.​

Targeting a passive role with a killing role would still trigger the passive role’s ability.​

Founder Titan
The Founder Titan has the ability to nullify any other titan’s action by targeting a potential titan shifter. The shifter can use its normal ability the same night. (Priority 0 against all titans, infinite uses)
The Founder Titan can target one player each night, and if one specific night, the Founder targets a shifter that uses his action the same night, then the target loses its titan ability forever.

The Attack Titan can only be nullified the night it enhances its role, not the following night when the action takes place. ​

The Beast Titan is nullified by the Founder Titan if the Founder Titan targets the Beast Titan the night before it uses its ability. ​

Super Mason (Secondary Role/Townie) A townie with a role at the start of the game. When he/she got recruited by the Mason Recruiter, he/she will not lose his/her original role. (e.g. Super Mason Doctor, Super Mason Detective).

Substitute Teacher (Townie) The Substitute Teacher can only win with third party Mentor/Mentee. He has one guess per day to guess who the Mentor is. If he guesses correctly he joins the Mentor/Mentee group. If the Mentor dies at any point after the Substitute Teacher joined his group, the Substitute Teacher changes his role into Mentor. If both Mentor and Mentee die before he joins them he commits suicide the following night.

Mafia Doctor (Mafia) The Mafia Doctor can protect another Mafia Member per night phase i.e. he will PM the host during the night phase and can request to protect a player. That player then cannot die during the night phase.

Mafia Robber (Mafia) Day Action - If the Robber has killed somebody successfully in the previous night he can use the stolen vote of his victim in the day besides his own. The vote of the victim can only be given as a locked vote. He cannot collect more than one robbed vote. The anonymous vote can be placed on anyone, no restrictions.

There is no cost, but there is a minimum ( 7MPs for all titans except Founder which is 14 MPs). It's up to the players to decide how much they will bet on titan powers. The biggest bet wins the titan. Do not forget that you can only bet on 1 titan power.
