I‘ve been told that several people are planning to host games, so to avoid any problems like people cutting into each other‘s game signups and other things we may need a schedule of games.

For anyone who plans to host a game, you can either write in this thread for what month/day you‘re planning a game or edit it in the schedule yourself if you can.

Note that there‘s no limit to how many games can be had per month, but try not to have 2 games running at the same time.

Sign-ups!

To everyone who usually plays MG or those that don‘t want to miss signups, we‘re testing a new way to alert everyone to a new game instead of mass tags before each game.

All you have to do is go to >>this thread<< and press Watch on the top corner of the thread. I or a host will post there and notify everyone like this whenever a new game starts.

[Original Post]

While hosting overall isn't necessarily hard, it's very easy to mess things up as we have seen plenty of times already. This naturally happens more often with newer hosts.

In order to get these new hosts familiar with how the game works behind the scenes and make it a smoother experience for everyone (no one wants a cancelled game!), we are establishing these sets of rules that follow the methods that have been used in the last 50 games:

-If it's your first time hosting, it's MANDATORY to have the help of someone that has hosted before. As long as they aren't banned, it doesn't matter if this person hosted twenty times or just once. This experienced host will be the "Main Host", while the new one assumes the role of "co-host".
-Tasks will be split in a rather equal manner so that the Main Host can keep things in check while the Co-host gets hands-on experience to learn properly.
-The Main Host has the final say when it comes to decisions (ideally, this won't need to be enforced heavily, it's mostly to avoid possible issues).

Once the game is over, the co-host can host on their own and even take the role of "experienced host" for a new host in need!

Awww! It's okay Farf, don't push yourself if the circumstances aren't good for you, you won't enjoy it anyway. I'll host another game someday and I hope you'll join and you'll enjoy it fully!

A Day phase in game lasts for 24 hours and a Night phase for 12 hours, so it should allow everyone to be able to take part in the discussions at some point, regardless of the timezone. We don't know yet when the game will start precisely. I don't have much experience but I know a game can last up to 10 days irl ^^ Though the upcoming game will prolly be a middle-size game so it shouldn't last this long.
There are some roles that do require a little more time investment. If you're Mafia for example, you'll have to be active at some point during Night phases to discuss with your teammates.
Anyway, I encourage you to read the rules and the guides, and maybe even take a look at a previous game, so that you have a better idea of what the game is all about, I know it helped me for my first game. And if you don't join this game, then I hope you'll have more time to join the next one

Games usually last for 5+ cycles of 36 hours (24 day 12 night phases).

It's a lot to take in tbh but I'm willing to learn how to play! If it goes on for a week or so then no problem, I only work three days a week so that shouldn't be a conflict? I'm better at watch and learn as a lot of these terms and roles are uber complex to me (for now lol). Also, it seems there are different styles of Mafia then? Is that like, a scene setting or something? I guess that's really my only other confusion as of right now. You get an avie or something and there are different types of Mafia game-play or? Also, by day and night, do literally mean in the day and at night time? I'm also confused by how that works.

I -think- I mostly understand the basic idea behind the game then. I may be a little slow at first as I'm not sure of what I'm doing for the most part (I did read the guide and such. I think it'd be great to play just hard to grasp at first) I just struggle with keeping that kind of info in my brains as a n00b player.

And could you clarify what it means with PMing? I'm not wholly sure I understood but something about Mafia at night and Townies something something? That I struggled with to understand as well. I just need a bit more explanation or relation to how some of this works. I looked at the provided example from the previous game and still wasn't sure exactly what the heck was going on. Is there a simplified guide of sorts? I really want to play, but I don't want to screw up for others either if I make a mistake.

In-game day and night times. Day phases normally last 24 hours, so let's say the game starts at 13:00 GMT, then the hosts will close the day phase at 13:00 GMT the next day. It's during that phase that we all talk together in the thread and lynch a player at the end of its phase. Nighttime starts right after the day is over and lasts for 12 hours. So if Day 1 ends at 13:00 GMT, then night 1 lasts until 1:00 GMT, and so on (Day 2: 1:00 GMT to 1:00 GMT the next day, Night 2 1:00 GMT to 13:00 GMT...). Nighttime is when most people send their role actions (see Role thread) and when mafia teams/ third party teams discuss in their specific discord servers. The Mafia Game thread is closed during nighttime, so we can't discuss as a community during the night. (13:00 means 1pm and 1:00 means 1am if that wasn't clear)

I'm not sure I understand your question, but the way it works is that the hosts decide on a theme (hence the avatars), then depending on the number of players that will join, they pick certain roles (balanced) from the many roles available in the Roles thread then randomize them within the players. Each Mafia Game as you can see in the general thread has a different theme and a different role pool. It's all up to the hosts of that certain game.

I don't know margi yet if i play or not, I'm having trouble adapting with uni time lol, it's charged, a lot of group projects that deadline are only for 2 days and each professor give you one if not two to do... Not including keeping up with math and programation that I'm still clueless about. :XD

You know the way they doing things, they leave it to you to figure out the course with group projects... They love group projects here it seems... Even tho doing them takes way more time than normal work alone.

Seeing how things are, anyways, even if i play, there probably be a big change in my playstyle considering the now limited time lol...

That aside, I'd gladly accept the Maori civilization unless we have a New Zealander player.
