Manga Coloring by Mochito

Heya. I've finally finished inking/coloring this page which I've been working on for so long. I used cel-shading for this one. It's a coloring style I haven't used for a couple of years, so I was really eager to get back into it, and I really did enjoy this much more than anything else I've done lately.

Being the complete dimwit that I am, I decided to torture myself and picked a raw page from last week's chapter 255, digitally inked it, and then colored it (which, naturally, required more inking). After a few dozen hours the fun became a chore, but that's mostly because I was very rusty with cel-shading, so there was a lot of trial and error. But I'm pretty pleased with it (especially with the backgrounds!). I hope you will be, too.

Please note that a lot of details from the raw were rather blurry, so I had to do a lot of guessing. Don't be too harsh.

Very nice colors....but wrong scene!

that kinda threw me off.....raincoats in a storm and polyanna colors just don't add up...

objectively....very good.... a little too bright that it saturates the colors esp. naruto but quite a refreshing pallete from all the recent dark themes....hope to see you "shower" us with more!

I don't think it's an improper scene . On this page, and the next, there are clouds and birds in the background, so it's not raining and it's probably not at night, either. Ah well, even if it is, I hardly mind.

Maybe my next one will have a dark theme, who knows.

I totally like your style. It's different from all the dark ones but not drifting into something to colorful/light. The colors you choosed are very harmonic to the whole picture.

The style is different to what's out there and I like that! Individuality! I also like your choice of pastel colours, but I wonder if it needs a little more depth in the shadows to provide a bit more contrast? Love the colour of the cloaks by the way, and Naruto's hair. I'd like to see more of your work; it's interesting and you're obviously talented.

And I agree with Eni: there's a current trend for doing dark themes, though I think it's got to do with the scenery in the manga getting darker.

ahhh, as a fellow colorist i must say i really like your style! i dont think i could work well with your palette, which even makes me a little jealous of you. its very pretty colored, and i love the fact that you went your own way with it. i always try to do that too! ^^

Thanks for all the compliments, guys . I actually planned on using 2-3 shades for every color, but then I decided to keep it simple and clean, and I'm pretty happy I did.

And, by the way, this isn't my usual style - I'm just experimenting all around to see which one like best and which one I enjoy the most. Here's a Sasuke I colored a few days ago - http://mywebpage.netscape.com/Daisetsuro/saseperate.jpg. I honestly don't know which style I'm most satisfied with. :P
