Feedback MangaHelpers Development Suggestion Thread

I don't know if this is the right thread for this, but the ads really affect the interaction with this site. I'm not saying remove all the ads, it's how you keep things going. However I have a problem with the ads on the bottom. They take up most of my browser page so that I can't see much of the site or fully interact with it. When I click the x in the upper corner, the first time the ad closes. After I change pages the ad won't respond or shrink down. Because of this I can't access the selections on the Shounen drop down menu because the bottom portion is hidden behind the advertisement. It's difficult trying to navigate the site with a vertical space of 2.5 to 3 inches to actually view content not hidden.
Is there somehow a way to make these ads work better so that after they pop up, do their thing, they can minimize again or be closed out?
I have tried clearing out my temp files and cache but that hasn't helped. Also I use firefox, does this affect it somehow?

I didn't know we even had ads. there are ads? I haven't experienced it. I'm using chrome.

Suggestion: I believe adding a "Dislike this post" button next to the "Like this post" button would aid in discussions. I think this could also help moderators pick out unruly posts from some of the Mangahelpers that like to cause trouble.

I don't think "dislike" button is a good idea. For all we know, it can add fuel to the fire and aggravate flame wars. We have a report button which is far more convenient to make staff aware of posts which are against the forum rules, I doubt dislikes would be of much help in this regard, leaving aside the fact that it's rather a measure of popularity of an opinion.

Here is an idea

we could have clubs / groups

something like genre based (like a romcom club or comedy club or scifi club)clubs /groups

or even specific manga clubs for the larger or old/finished titles

i believe the benefit of the clubs or groups would be the suggestion of mangas to your fellow club members which would encourage and stimulate more manga reading and thus more posting and a group of posters with perhaps a larger resume of manga

which would also mean more friends and thus a better overal vibe and morale amongst us members

but we already have hangout threads for the different demographics which do exactly as you described. ^^ You can find them in the Otaku Cafe now. They used to be in the specific demographic boards before the revamp. We just hang out there and post random stuff or ask random stuff about such demographic like looking for recs or posting recs.

Is it any way to make a fixed menu on the right or left part of the site? It would be awesome to speed navigation.
Although I don't know how flexible vBulletin can be.

We don't have enough space for a side menu in some resolutions but your suggestion gave me an idea, I made the top menu fixed. If people like it that way, we can keep it, otherwise I'll undo the change.

Now that I see this menu, maybe a link to the Control Panel would be appreciated instead of the Home button. And since That will be more characters than home maybe you can rename Manhwa and Manhua as Manwha/Manhua y Boys Love to Yaoi.
Just a thought.

There're several items under Home, we can't remove all of them but I temporarily added a link to User Control Panel above other items. There has been both positive and negative feedback so far, we can tweak the menu further if we decide to keep it stickied.

I made the bar active only for resolutions bigger than 800 x 600. What is your screen resolution, go to this address and it'll tell you.

For some reason these mobile device simulators don't give the correct screen resolution which makes them pretty useless for testing, I had checked out similar sites. We got it working for Hardy's phone, the problem seems to be solved for now.
