When I first read about the Chimera Ants I saw them only as the enemy and nothing good since they were feeding on humans. Granted later in the manga some of the Chimera Ants are fairly decent and fought for the humans. Saying that a Chimera Ants is always going to be little dangerous because there is that Ants side always there.

Question is what if meruem did not get poison and was able to live on would he actually changes his way? Part of me thinks he knew he was going to die so therefore didn't care because he doesn't have time left.

I mean I couldn't figure out Meruem . He wanted to kill off humans and feed off of them but yet because of Komugi he changed his way only because he couldn't beat her?

Wouldn't that be more of his ants side since within Chimera Ants it's all about who is stronger . I mean let say MEruem beat Komugi ...he would of killed her because he won...a human side would showed compassion ..which I don't think Meruem has or did I read it wrong.

Personally I think they should just wipe out all the Chimera Ants.

The Ants as a race sees human as food and that isn't out of spite or anything. It's exactly the same as how human sees chicken as food because they are food to us not because people have some kind of inner hatred against chickens. Given how strong the Ants are supposed to be they can easily assert their position in the food chain. The only thing Meryem agreed to is equivalent of 'ethical treatment of animals', e.g. given your chicken more room to move around instead of locked in a cage, and that he agreed to not wastefully consume humans, as in he won't be buying a human burger in the local McDonalds and just throw it away because he wasn't actually hungry.

Even the exceptions are just that, exceptions. It'd be no different than how Cecil the Lion was a big deal because he's apparently an exceptional lion so his death sparked some kind of outrage, while most people obviously don't care unnamed lions die to poachers all the time. An exceptional human being would seem to be in a pretty good place in Meryem's world, but remember that's an exceptional individual amongst guys that can use aura, which is already something like one in a thousand, so these aren't exactly good chances for the average joe.

Meruem... die? Post Nuke? By what force of Nature? He was by all aspects the strongest combat creature in their known world.

But it's fine because ... he loves Komugi. At one point after his resurrection and his thoughts became jumbled, he finally settled on just being with Komugi, which just solidified once he found out he was going to die anyway.

I believe he might've survived, possibly lived with Komugi in the nuke bunker and just hung out. He probably would've had to kill Pouf at some point because pouf would... do things.]

But he wasn't killable, short of an Ability like Alluka, or some poison.

I suppose even if he was peaceful, they'd have to fear him and Komugi having a child. The hybrid would have all of Meruem's power he collected up til that moment fighting off Hunters that probably would come after him, and the mind of the only person in the series who is 'smarter' than Meruem.

But post Nuke Meruem definitely had little to no interest in 'ruling'. I think experiencing death made him love life even more... which is the point, he got his priorities straight, and instead of ending all the Hunters in the immediate area like he could've easily done (hell if he tried hard enough he might've been able to take millions of people with him) and just spent his time cuddling with Komugi.

Meryem never had any interest in ruling. He said that ruling is an obligation of the strongest, and that's why he has to rule because he is the strongest being of HXH. It's literally a duty for him. I don't think Meryem had any change of heart in terms of policy. He was nice to humans after he found out he wasn't going to live because he's not someone who can't take defeat. If anything, maybe he rather being defeated because he never wanted to rule in the first place, and knowing he was going to die means he no longer has to fulfill his obligation to rule. But had Meryem survived, he is utterly uncompromisible in his belief that the most powerful has a duty to rule. He remarked that the human way of ruling is utter nonsense even when he thinks of them as just food, because food or not, Meryem does not accept any 'bad' form of government. His biggest flaw, at least from the HXH human's point of view, is that he thinks in absolute big picture terms. The creation of his army would've led to the death of roughly 5 million people, and Meryem's logic is that if 5 million deaths allows him to save the rest of the world then those lives were worth the sacrifice. Human society is incompatible with this kind of thinking, so he will always be viewed as the ruthless tyrant even if his decisions ultimately will save more people than he kills.

I doubt that was the case. His personality was undergoing a shift for a while. Him coming to the realization that all he wanted was Kimura was his final characterization. It was headed there for a while. I mean you're right about him thinking strength was important. But he also thought that was bull under the surface. Even when he questioned pouf about his role as King. And was asking why was it okay for him to kill. To end the potential of other living beings. After being fed the having to Shepard and kill humans bit.. He stormed off to go kill Komugi to prove it to himself that he deserved to rule because he could end all life as he pleased. I think him not offing Komugi has a deeper meaning.

Pouf fed him the whole... Will of the strongest bs. But Mereum himself had no real interest rather than what others told him. So he acted like it. That was quite literally the sum of him and Komugi's 'I was born to met you' heart to heart. At the end of the day he would've discarded all kingly duties to face an enemy he couldn't beat... Naming Komugi.

Ging or Beyond would've killed him if he got out of hand.

I don't think they would have been capable of doing that. Keep in Mind that Meruem was not even close to the peak of his strength pre rose.
He grew in power rapidly by consuming.

^^^ This

Meruem was stressed to be the strongest in the series for a reason.

At his post nuke peak he could move almost as fast as light, and he showed next to zero visual effort doing so.

I'd shudder to think what would happen if he wore his big boy boots and actually used the Rage transformation to mutate into some Youpi like combat form, and fought for real....

Post Rose meruem is a being which would take insane effort and sacrifice to destroy.
I don't think any nen user, no matter what oath or effort he puts could even touch meruem at that point.

No Intrigue can harm him due to spiritual message, the only thing i could imagine is carpet nuking the continent he is on.
His En has to have some limit, they could send the nukes to the outer limits of his en first and while they are flying send the rest, so when he notices it, it's to late.

But that'd mean bringing the nuclear holocaust for a chance to destroy him, this does not seem viable.

The only other thing could be an ability like meleoron or possible manipulator abilities to pass the spiritual message tests.
Or Alluka :D

Edit: Actually...I think Netero knows about Alluka. He is insanely selfish, but he did have security measure for the case he fails. He had the rosebomb and i would bet that there were some people who knew what netero was going for there.

It seems like pariston was involved in the whole chimera ant outbreak, no way in hell he would let the king frow strong enough to be uncontrollable. It would make sense that both netero and pariston knew something like alluka exists (or an equivalent safety deus ex machina).

Although the Ants bizarrely didn't know what a nuke does in the world of HXH, they are aware that presidential shelters exist for a reason. Pufu still advised Meryem, even after his powerup, to hide in there while the Royal Guards dealt with the intruders, and since Meryem is not someone who is too proud to do the right thing, even if there was an all out nuclear campaign against him he'd simply hide underground until it's over.

By the way that's why the Ants are raising an army in the first place, because once you get into a ground war it'd be pretty hard to have a massive bombing campaign without wiping out your own guys.
