It's the sound of my excitement, at it being Oscar season again!

Similar to last year, we are hosting our own Oscars contest (a far superior contest as the vast majority of the people involved in this Oscars competition are not obnoxious arseholes).

Unfortunately, unlike the 'official' Oscars competition, we can not [read: will not] offer actual physical trophies – but, instead of that, we can offer you one better:

A low resolution badge to display under your username, highlighting your superiority in predicting the outcome of ridiculous popularity contests!!!!!!

So, now that the intro is out of the way, we welcome you to the:

MH Oscars Contest 2019​

If you don't know the rules, please read on!
If you already do know (and, really, by now you should...), the pain finally ends fun finally starts on the 24th February, at the 91st Academy Awards.

Rules:
- Go HERE and make your picks

- The user with the most correct guesses wins the award. Remember to leave your username in the poll.
Remember: No name, no win.

You heard the man!
Even if you guess the most correctly, if you use a fake name you'll lose (in the game and at life).

- Only 1 entry allowed. In case an user does multiple entries, only the last one counts.

- In case of a tie, the user with most corrects in the Big 5 Categories wins. (Best Film, Directing, Lead Actor, Lead Actress, and both Screenplay categories)

- If still a tie, then I am sure we will be able to think of some way to trick the system to make our friends win break any ties.

At what time will the ceremony begin for you guys? For me it starts at 1 in the morning and will go on until 4 or 5... It's an hour shorter this year, right? So yeah, probably 4 in the morning.

Starts at 2AM here. Gonna head to bed early so I can get some hours before then and then watch as much as I can before falling asleep again.

Will probably have it going all night since I get up like three times a night to change diapers anyway, can catch whatever category is announced then. But since I'm working tomorrow I don't think I'll sit up all night really.

Not sure now, but I think a non-user tied for 1st place once.

Most likely should makes a list a winners now to the opening post, when the contest is relatively new.

The Oscars really snuck up on me so I've barely got my entry in about an hour and a half before the deadline.
I seem to have managed to see most of the movies up for awards but.... once again.... I have missed 90% of the documentaries and shorts and foreign films.

There really needs to be some way to watch them as a group before the actual awards come up.

Most of the short documentaries/live-action short films are rarely available.
"Mother", for example, is a one-take short that my friend was able to see online because it's only available in the Spain area. She sent me the link but I couldn't see it, unfortunately. "Fauve" is online though.

But yeah I dare say it's impossible for the common viewer to be able to see everything that's up for an award before the Academy Awards take place.

It needs to be available in some way, like Netflix... or even like they did one year and made the shorts available on iTunes as a package.

Once in a while you'll see an animated short in front of a Disney or Pixar film, but other than that... usually they go unseen.
Even Cinefest (happens right after Tiff) doesn't seem to get the ones that are up for awards. They do get a series of shorts, but they just seem to be 'locally produced' ones.

Would’ve been so glad if Grant had gotten it, but it was always gonna be Ali.

And let’s face it, the dude deserves it, even after winning the same award only two years ago (that’s a record I think).

Hm, thought they’d give VFX to Infinity War to acknowledge the film which many consider one of the best of the year.. but yeah, if there’s one category First Man deserves to win it was that one.

I can't even remember what I voted in most categories but I'm sure it was really bad.

One of my favourite wins from this night will have to be Ludwig Goransson for Origial Score. I'd have been really disappointed if he didn't get that. I'm sure everyone works really hard on their albums but having seen a lot of the BTS and "making of" this score, I really appreciated the lengths he went to include the different heritage and nations in the themes.

Anyway, I sincerly hope I got more than 5. I'm ashamed I didn't back my best girl Olivia in the end
