It's the sound of my excitement, at it being Oscar season again!

Similar to last year, we are hosting our own Oscars contest (a far superior contest as the vast majority of the people involved in this Oscars competition are not obnoxious arseholes).

Unfortunately, unlike the 'official' Oscars competition, we can not [read: will not] offer actual physical trophies – but, instead of that, we can offer you one better:

A low resolution badge to display under your username, highlighting your superiority in predicting the outcome of ridiculous popularity contests!!!!!!

So, now that the intro is out of the way, we welcome you to the:

MH Oscars Contest 2019​

If you don't know the rules, please read on!
If you already do know (and, really, by now you should...), the pain finally ends fun finally starts on the 24th February, at the 91st Academy Awards.

Rules:
- Go HERE and make your picks

- The user with the most correct guesses wins the award. Remember to leave your username in the poll.
Remember: No name, no win.

Use a pseudonym and you'll



You heard the man!
Even if you guess the most correctly, if you use a fake name you'll lose (in the game and at life).

- Only 1 entry allowed. In case an user does multiple entries, only the last one counts.

- In case of a tie, the user with most corrects in the Big 5 Categories wins. (Best Film, Directing, Lead Actor, Lead Actress, and both Screenplay categories)

- If still a tie, then I am sure we will be able to think of some way to trick the system to make our friends win break any ties.

-You are free to vote until Monday 25th 1AM (GMT) / Sunday 24th 8PM (EST) / Sunday 24th 5PM (PST)

- You are allowed to discuss your picks and personal favourites in the thread. Telling us why you voted how you voted is highly important necessary recommended.

Ruined whose time? It’s predictions, it’s always good to see others perspective on things.

Gotta say I’m gobsmacked by Olivia Colman winning Best Actress. I thought Close had this in the bag big time, the way she’s dominated awards season. SOOO glad I was wrong though because Colman’s performance was my favorite by far.

Also, I’m willing to bet Roma got the most #1 picks by voters but Green Book Won thanks to the preferential ballot system (which never ceases to baffle me). It’s a great film though so no salt there.

13/21 (counting only the MH game ones) is definitely less than I thought I’d get, this was a tough year to predict and I’m sure I didn’t win. But some of these upsets make me real happy. OLIVIA

This is one of those years where the Oscars has pleasantly surprised me and like you said Orgz, I'm happy to have been wrong in a few of those categories I remember voting for.

I think with Glen Close, it's the fact that she was great in an average/good film, while Olivia was great in a great film. Though she swept all coming into this night. This is why I hate Oscar predictions sometimes

She also gave the most genuinely adorable speech ever. Man, I love her.

Also, a new go-to tip for winning Best Picture is to cast Mahershala Ali in a Best Supporting Actor-winning role.

You know, I might be biased a bit, but I'm sooo glad Black Panther got costume design and production. When voting I went for the safe choice, because it always seemed to me that the Academy had a strong love for costume dramas( hence I went for The Favourite).

Looking at everyone's vote, it's funny to see that we all went with the same nominees for Original Song and Animated Feature.

Congrats goldbob! BP definitely threw me for a loop, as well as Bohemian Rhapsody getting the Editing wins (Sound I can understand, Film Editing is still unforgivable). It was a tough year so good job getting so many!

But well done for getting Best Picture correct. Only you and @Wowzers got that one. To be fair, he was also the only one to get Best Original Screenplay correctly.

Green Book was the most obvious choice, I was actually laughing at everyone voting Roma. Come on!

Colman was my objective pick, Gaga my subjective. If I changed them all to the objective ones, I would've still scored almost the same..

I especially like how Maeshalla Ali is a shoo-in whenever he shows up. Looking forward to when he shows in the real Best Actor category and just supporting actor.

Now, if I could just learn to spell his name correctly.

Best Supporting should've gone to Sam Rockwell, no doubt. Mahershala Ali is a terrific actor and his portrayal of Shirley is great. But Rockwell should've won for the same reason Mortensen won Best Actor, and that's because of the way they camouflaged into their role.

With Ali, we got Don Shirley with a touch of Ali. With Mortensen, we got Tony Lip, nothing about his performance screamed or whispered "Mortensen". He was Tony Lip and no one else. The same can be said for Rockwell, he was Bush.

Sad Mortensen lost, sad Rockwell lost.

Malek was a great pick, but again, a mix of Mercury/Malek. And an Oscar-worthy performance is being the role, not 'acting' the role. If you understand what I'm trying to say.
